Hi all, shot a good bag of rooks the other day, 76 in total, all branchers. I didn't want to waste them so I breasted them out, yes all 76 and froze them. I'm going to try and cook rook pie, this used to be popular. Anybody tried this? Any tips?
I have found when birds are injured or sick they tend to give up and die, you did the right thing, well I would have wrung it's neck, saves pellets and is humane.
My best bag was 23 feral pigeon but it was easy, 10-20 yard shots at dopey ferals in a shed. Anyone who was reasonably competent with an air rifle could have done it. It's not always the skill of the hunter but the numbers of quarry present that make big bags.
x4 always. Stick to one mag setting or else things get more complicated. With x4 the cross hairs look to be almost still on the quarry which helps a lot.
Hi, I will do my best to answer your questions.
If the rust is too bad then you will have to rub it off with wire wool and re-blue the barrel.
It depends. As it's a lower powered gun 20 yards would be fine.
Don't bother messing about with pennies. It may need a new main spring though, what make and model is it?
As stated they are currently out of season. You can shoot then if they are in season and you have permission to shoot them from the land owner or holder of the shooting rights.
No need for camo. With rabbits good field craft is whats needed. Keeping still or moving slowly is often the best camo. I don't wear bright clothes when hunting but I never wear camo, it scares the public too.
Great sugestions so far but I want to make sure I have considered all options before buying so what does everyone think of the nikko stirling air king 2x7x32? It has adjustable parralax. On my bushnell trophy parralax is a bit of a problen because it is set for 100 yards so thats a plus point.
All good sugestions thanks everyone. Zini I found the simmons on uttings for £99. I don't mind spending a bit for a good scope that will last for years. I go rabbiting sometimes too but I think all the scopes mentioned will do for that too. Only use one gun and I hardly ever need to shoot past 30 yards. Keep the sugestions coming...
Hi all, I do a lot of shooting at close range, mostly shooting rats and feral pigeons in farm buildings. I never seem to take shots longer than 30 yards so I don't need a high mag scope. Often with my bushnell trophy 3x9x40 the targets are blurred at close ranges, sometimes less than 10 yards. The open sights are ok but difficult to use in darkened farm buildings. I was thinking of getting a light weight low magnification scope. Nothing with a bigger lense that 32mm. Something like 1.5-2x mag would work. I was looking at the simmons whitetail classic 1.5x5x20, looks good for what I want. What
Hi all, I shoot a fair number of feral pigeons, sometimes bags into double figures. I have always kept the breast meat for eating and feed the rest too the ferrets. Feral pigeons are never quite as nice as woodies in my opinion but they are still delicious in pigeon pie. But I've read that they are dangerous to eat, I even read an article in airgunner that said you shouldn't touch shot ones and use a litter picker to move them! Me and my family are still ok despite eating them for years, does everybody else eat them? Im not going to stop eating them either way. The breast meat is too good to f
They taste wonderful too due to their good diet.
I was given some a while ago so I breasted them out and put them in the freezer, was wondering if they would be good eating.
You don't want to mess around trying to give your rifle more power. If you want more power get an FAC and then you can get an FAC air rifle or whatever.
I don't do PCPs so here is my wish list.
Air Arms-Camargue
BSA-Gold star
Weihrauch-HW35E
That surprised you all! The Camargue is a lovely looking side lever discontinued by air arms decades ago. The BSA gold star is an multi-shot under lever. The HW35E is a luxury version of the HW35 also out of print as it were. I much prefer springers and these older springers were made to be top of the range instead of just something to use until you can afford a PCP. I like the HW57 I use now but if one of these came up in good condition my 57 would get traded in, it's just a tool wheres these ar
As we can't be hunting all the time can anyone recommend any good books about air gun hunting? I have only ever read one I liked, "Air rifle hunting" by John Darling, great read, as true today as it was in the 's. Any body else read any air gunning books? Were they any good?
