  1. Back to the accupells they are dirty but I have never washed them. They group under an inch at 25 yards with open sights and 30 with the scope so I'm happy. Will try washing though to see what if any improvment there is.
  2. No problem. Who knows maybe one day I will be able to afford all the new bits for it. There must be plenty of old HW 80s about only needing a basic tidying. Good luck, post the results.
  3. Yeah there is such a gun, light weight version of the HW80. Lighter because the cylinder wall is thinner so they used a raised scope rail in the early ones, changed it to cut dovetails later. Nice stock, no cheek peice but nice fore end. Yes I have an old one, with raised scope rail, it was my fathers, saw a lot of use. He choped the barrel down to a foot to fit a silencer, not smart as is a job for a gunsmith but there wasn't the info on air guns in those days. Now it is rusty, stock looks a mess and has no mainspring in it, the spring for the safety has gone too. Could be a really nice
  4. Shop around a bit and you can usually get good deals. Bar will give you a discount if you buy 10 tins at once. I use accupell which is 10.25 a tin. Be wary of the tins that only have 200 in them. I think prices are quite reasonable. After all a tenner for 500 pellets is only 2pence per pellet. The prices go up like everything else.
  5. Never used these, I stick to accupell Basicly try any quality pellet you can get hold of, air arms, bisley, webley, RWS, JSB, H n N, whatever to find out which work best in your gun.
  6. Yes it is sick, not very well at all, dead in fact! No fleas don't affect the meat at all, most rabbits have some fleas. Don't feed it to the ferret if it has a tapework cyst. The cyst contains eggs that may well give the ferret a similar cyst. There are lots of healthy bunnies out there so if you shoot an ill one just leave it lie if it's not in the way.
  7. Never seen that before. Sometimes seen spotty livers or really foul smelling ones covered in squitters but never seen tape worm cysts. Personally if a bunny looks ill, thin or has the runs I leave it for the foxes if I'm out in the feilds. Nearly all the wild bunnies I shoot seem to be perfectly healthy anyway.
  8. Hi mate was about to say, ask someone who scoped their rifle. You can probably get them from chambers but its usually quite dear and so many people take the sights off rifles to put scopes on so sights can usually be found cheaper or in this case free, very generous of the man above.
  9. I would buy it. Am thinking of getting one myself, always fancied the HW35E or luxus version. From what I have read they are accurate enough to 30-35 yards but sometimes dificult to get up to 11.5 ft/lb, anyway 10-10.5 is enough for all the usual air gun quarry providing you have the accuracy. The are suposed to be droop snouts, i.e the barrel points slightly down from the cylinder so you might need adjustadle mounts if using with a scope, think you can get v-mach kits for them so it might be an idea to think about getting one once you have the funds. Let us know how you get on.
  10. Steady on mate, HELP!!!! in capitals with four exclamation marks is something you should save for emergencies, like when a rat is climbing up the inside of your trouser leg. Advice on rabbit shooting would have been a more apropriate title. With a 12ft/lb rifle head shots are the only option, actually tell a lie heart shots work too but the target area is smaller and more difficult to locate so go for the head, between the eye and the base of the ear. I usually restrict my range to 30 yards. You can either stalk them, keep low get close or lie in wait near a warren, within 30 yards is be
  11. Hi I couldn't say but I think it could be worth quite a bit, I know where you can find out but it won't be a popular suggestion, the airgunbbs site, I am not a member but if you google any make and model of air rifle you usually get a list of results from the bbs. Do you know how old the gun is? is it accuratte?
  12. Hi, the only thing I can think of is the gas ram, have heard of the after market ones failing suddenly.
  13. The only way to find out what your rifle can do is to try with different pellets at different ranges and see what groups you can get. Am not to hopefull considering how cheap the gun was but see if you can prove me wrong. Don't understand the ranges comment zini. For instance the rats on my permissions are so wary getting within 10 yards is very difficult. Anyway if you can hit a vital organ it takes very little energy to bring down a rat or any air rifle quarry.
  14. Its just never been as accurate as I would have liked it to be, 1 and a quarter inch groups at 30 yards are the norm. I have tried everything to get better accuracy but to no avail. The rubber washer that keeps the loading gate in has to be replaced every so often and the loading gate itself can get bits of twig ect stuck in it when out and about meaning the gate won't close properly, its fidly to clean out too. In short I want a medium weight break barrel to keep things simple. Was thinking of HW99 similar price to fenix and my local RFD says its better. Think I will go with HW99.
  15. I tend to stick to 30 yards. Depends on conditions, rifle and shooter.
  16. As stated what does everybody think of the cometa fenix 400, thinking of buying one as a 30 yard hunting rifle/ plinker. From what I have read elsewhere they are great for the money but benefit from a simple tune up/degreasing. Am having problems with my HW57 so who has used a cometa fenix 400? What are they like?
  17. The supersport is a good 30 yard gun and although either caliber will do I would go with .22 simply because it will be easier to shoot well than the .177 which will probably have more recoil.
  18. Hobbys are very accurate to 25 yards in my HW. They are a well made pellet for the price, can't think of any other pellets of the same quallity for £5 a tin. Good for close range hunting which is mostly what I do, not so good in the wind.
  19. Check you are allowed to shoot on your allotment if you haven't already. Get a second hand HW 57,30,50 or 99, should pick one up for 150, possibly with scope, mounts, sling ect. Failing that a webley stingray or BSA lightening or supersport would be ok for a similar price secondhand. Don't bother with CO2 rifles.
  20. Has anyone used 12ftlb .25 caliber air rifles? I know the choice is a bit limited for rifles and pellets. Some HW rifles can be ordered in .25 or .25 barrels bought for them, most BSA's have .25 versions, think the webley tomahawk had a .25 version too? Just looked for pellets, not a lot of choice there either, H AND N and Bisley do .25 pellets, there are others but I have had no experience with their .22 versions. Most of my shooting is at ranges less than 30 yards anyway so I think I could manage quite well with a .25, although I don't think funds will permit anytime soon, just interested in
  21. Hi I haven't got anything to sell but my advice is look for a second hand HW, you can get a battered but useable one for under 150 pounds. Have a look on the guntrader website, if nothing else you will see what different rifles go for. If you say what you need it for people will be able to point you in the right direction.
  22. ye i can imagine edgar your oven must be huge happy hunting farmer The family is huge but only 20 of the rooks were used. I would advise everybody to shoot a few branchers before it's too late and make rook pie for themselves.
  23. I used these all the time when my HW only had open sights. Very accurate to 25 yards after that starts to loose power, not so good in wind. Punches neat round holes in things, good on game. But very cheap, £5 a tin and never found a deformed one, great quality pellet.
  24. Ate rook pie, similar thing to what zini suggested but with onions. Delicious, can't believe how good they were, thanks everyone. Yeah I should have posted in the game cookery section but last time I tried that it was a bit slow.
