  1. Got my first gun, a .22 Weihrauch HW 57 over a year ago, just got a Bushnell scope for it for Christmas. I would love to buy an old Webley air pistol but I don't know if I ever will. Id also love to get an old air arms side lever but there is little chance of that!
  2. Good shooting! but if you saw 2 stoats it probably means there are quite a few more around.
  3. HW 95 is a good gun. TX 200 is very accurate but heavy and takes a while to load.
  4. Hi all, I bought my Weihrauch HW 57 about a year ago. At the time I couldn't afford a scope. So I used the open sights and after plenty of practice went hunting. This year I have done a lot of hunting and practice and put at least 5000 pellets through the gun. Ive also shot plenty of rabbits rats, crows ect. I restrict my hunting range to about 25-30 yards. These days everyone seems to think you need a scope to go hunting, a lot of hunting rifles don't have open sights. What does everyone think? did you ever hunt with rifles with open sights? or do you now? I realize open sights have disadvant
  5. When shooting a silenced springer you are too close to hear the difference. But silencers do work for spring guns.
  6. You are probably right about flat head pellets loosing energy at longer ranges. I have only used them to 30 yards maximum.
  7. I walk around with my spring rifle cocked and loaded all day if I'm hunting and there isn't much about. Things will hear you coming if you keep firing and reloading. I use my rifle a lot and the same spring has been in it for over a year now and its as powerful as ever. you should never leave it cocked when your not using it though.
  8. Not nesesarily. You wont go wrong with a domed pellet but other types can be just as good. I have used RWS super domes and RWS hobbys in my weihrauch .22 but it seems more accurate with the flat headed hobbys than the superdomes. The hobbys also do more damage. You can hear the difference when shooting rabbits in the head. In fact my gun is more accurate with the hobbys than with any domed pellets I have tried. Pointed pellets can be ok but they tend to be less accurate. especially if the points become slightly damaged. Also pointed pellets can go through a vital organ without imparting enough
  9. Its ok I have read the old threads and found out most of what i wanted to know. Thanks everyone.
  10. Hi all i am thinking of buying a 17 hmr rifle. Could someone please tell me the pros and cons of this caliber?
  11. I aim for the chest but not too far forward otherwise you can burst the crop.
  12. Well done! Out of interest where do you aim for when shooting pigeons?
  13. The air arms jackal high power is a side lever rifle. Air arms don't make them anymore. the following site has reviews on the rifle. http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews5891.html
  14. You can shoot ducks with an air rifle if they are in season and if you have permission its just that shotgun shooters don't want you to. Go for head shots though.
  15. Hi all standing shots are difficult! here's how i take them. Stand at an angle to the target. keep the rifle locked into your shoulder. support the rifle with the other arm but don't grip too tightly. Breathe in. Bring the rifle up to the target and slowly breathe out and take the shot. It shouldn't take more than 5 seconds. You need to "think" the sights on to the target. Squeeze the trigger very gently so as not to spoil your aim. And yeah u need to practice a lot. I'm right handed and my left arm supports the rifle freehand but you could try resting the elbow of your supporting arm on your

I was doing a bit of plinking with my Weihrauch today, it hasn't got a scope yet but the open sights are good. I was getting inch groups with RWS superdomes at 20 yards. I can get slightly better groups with RWS hobbys though. I am getting a scope for christmas.
  17. .25 caliber might be good for close range ratting.
  18. I could be wrong but I thought the TX 200 HC came with a built on silencer and was fairly quiet. Remember that springers sound noisy because you are close to the noise if you see what I mean. You can't hear my Weihrauch 50 yards away and its not got a silencer. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. I don't think you will find a silencer to fit anyway.
  19. Seems a good idea, is it a "1 size fits all" job or are there different ones for different guns?
  20. Only ever see one or two here in Scotland. Once found a fledgling in the woods, left it there. There are so few they can't do much damage.
  21. Ha ha ha, I used to keep some "rabbit reducers," in a cage in the shed. I saw the rat shooting video on you tube, well done great shooting.
  22. Take your gun but no ammo wait for the rabbits to come out and see how many more shots you'll get if you wait longer. Often when there are several you can shoot two or three in a row if they aren't used to being shot at.
  23. With a high powered spring rifle I think you would find longer barrels easier to cock as you can get more leverage.
