  1. sorry to hear your news. gutted for you.
  2. most dog books contain the same information (basic commands usually) but differ in how they put things across. have a browse and see which clicks with you. usually reward/reinforce the first 'useful behaviour' they do naturally, usually sitting! lol good luck Tracy
  3. sat in the local 'Subway' cafe today in town, two young kids came in, 8 or 9 years old and helped themselves to soft drinks out the machine. The cashier asks 'are you going to pay for them'? and they said 'no' and went to leave the cafe with the drinks in their hands!!!!!! could not believe my ears or my eyes...........so I kicked the door shut and barred their way until they handed the drinks back to the cashier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. shes young and a terrier, wandering is what they do. take the advice from others on here and keep at it, she'll catch on. patterdales as with any terriers are quite headstrong, intelligent and keen as mustard to please.
  7. sorry to hear about little spike. hope hes better soon. my dog was attacked by a police attack dog. alls he had to show for it, on the outside, was a puncture wound. but the dogs teeth had dragged all the skin and muscle down into his shoulder, lucky to keep his front leg. it knocked him for 6 for the first 3 weeks (eating his drainage tube didn't help him ha ha) but he got his confidence back sure enough. he hates GSDs with a vengence and will go for them if i let him, just grumbles under his breath when he sees one! so im sure spike will be ok given time, don't force him and he will find his

    bloody dog

yup. mine went missing for 12 hours. looked in all his haunts for hours on end. turned up next morning of hia own accord, got in through his flap in the back door, got in my daughters bed looking very pleased with himself, covered in earth and fox poo! wanted to throttle the living daylights out of him!!!!! if there is a next time i won't bother sending a search party out for at least 12 hours!!! thats when i conceded defeat and accepted he wanted to get into holes and hunt! I was previously in denial. cheeky blighter had the nerve to show me the next day on his walk where he had been in the l
  15. can i add my two penneth (not that i know anything, so its a humble opinion) , my dog has a bit of a stumpy tail (undocked, naturally stumpy i think) watching him in the brambles, thickets, holes, bushes etc i do worry about his tail getting caught as obviously it gets very erect and waggy (no pun intended) when hes on a trail and excited. ive thought about having it docked (can it be done at any age?) and when i have another dog i certainly will buy one with a docked tail. always sat on the fence about the docking business but now fell off onto docking side now i know better!
  16. is it ok to share my experience on this? i tried all sorts with mine too, bottle diatractors, using the word 'no' and meaning it! mine has also been attacked and bitten by two other dogs (one a police attack dog who lives in the same street) and wanted to have a go at other dogs nearby. I did a bit of reading and started to use a stick, not to hit him with, but to slap on the ground in front of him at the slightest suggestion of barking or going at other dogs, and saying at the same time 'leave it' in a sharp gutteral voice. the stick was a bender type that gave a 'slap' as it hit the floor. a
