For pheasant and duck youd probably want a Gos but the aren't really a bird to be starting out with especially if you cant guarantee yo can dedicate at least a couple of hours everyday to it.I flew a male and a female harris to a decent standard for a couple of seasons before moving on to a gos and even then the f**king thing would nearly drive me round the twist some days.

You here all the talk of golies taking deer and foxes but truth be known 95%of them being flown over here have never caught anything bigger than a hare and they miss a big percentage of them.Seen more exciting flights watching little 1.6lb male hawk flying rabbits. In fact some of the best sport ive seen is merlins flying skylarks

I know a lad thats been flying smaller birds for a few years whos just started flying one.He was telling me that hes looking to buy a kevlar jacket for his little cocker because the goldie keeps whacking it.I said thats alright but what about when an old couple appear over the horizon with a yorkie terrier or a family out walking and one of the nippers has a fury hat on.F**king disaster waiting to happen

Yeah Ive spent some time in the company of a fella down here in kent who's very well known for his goldies and gos hawks.I couldnt think of anything worse than carrying one of them f**king things about all day to see a straight line flight at something a bird a 1/3 of the size can kill and give a lot mor exciting flight doing it.Also unless you can get right up in the highlands or somewher wher you can guarantee not to see anyone for miles id imagine they can be a bit of a liability.

Ive flow Harris Hawks and a Gos in the past and would love to do it again but know that its not something I could give enough time atm to do it properly but for the life of me Ive never been able to see the fascination in flying them big plodding eagles.

If youre out mooching and it just happens thats one thing but cant see the need to be doubling up on the lamp

Plenty if their dog is any good

All this talk of doubling up.So you double up the younster gets bit by the fox which gets shook around by the older dog.surely the whole reason for breeding from tried and tested bloodlines is that the dog if allowed to mature properly should want to do it without having to be shown how.Do lads need to double up little 18lb terriers to show them how to do the job so why do lads feel the need to double up 60lb+ bull crosses.Maybe its just lads kidding themselves on how good their dogs really are that they need to be constantly doubling up.

Plenty of rabbits and stuff that aint gunna bite them back as a youngster to teach them the lamp and how to use their legs.Let them mature then slip em on a fox
-
147lb?,thats neapolitan/large boerboel weight.
-
Yeah there is.If they rip you off on your debit card its your money theyve nicked. If they rip you off and youve paid by credit card its the card companies.

Try finding a decent Rotty or AB these days

And it lasted 7years? I live a couple of minutes from a german Shepherd breeder who was head of the Met police dog department and is still held in very high regard in German Shepherd circles. He said that the Czech line shepherds were too much even for the police when they tried them as they were wired more like a Mali which they also tried and gave up on.Seen so many lads get these super hypo working bred lines as guards or even security dogs for work and end up with massive problems as they just cant give them the constant stimulation they need. Its all very well watching YouTube vids of these
-
Sounds more like a liability than a guard dog.
-
Maybe its just that your mate shouldnt be owning a guardian type breed of any type.
-
Why would anyone double up on rabbits?Or anything for that matter
-
So whats a decent german Shepherd going to do?kindly ask them to leave or call 999
-
A pain but at least its safe and not getting you in bother.Known lads that have been trashed to slip a dog in the same vicinity as a field of sheep in case it looses the intended quarry.
-
Tbh mate I think that not completely stockbreaking a lurcher before you start running it is pretty irresponsible.Myself and a mate that I used to hunt with had bull crosses that we could slip on anything even if it was amongst a field of sheep.Ive got a bandog bitch here now with a big lump of bull in her that I can leave unattended with sheep, horses and even chickens and ducks and she wont even look at them.Saying a lurcher is iffy around stock just because it has bull in it is just an excuse for laziness.Ive had game bred bulldogs that were fine around stock.

Seen a lot of different breeds imported as adults over the last few years that were only any good for a bullet in the nut.Seems to be a popular misconception with lads at the moment that if you import something from eastern Europe or one of the Baltic states that you're gunna get something special. They just dont seem to realise that them f**kers are all peddling c**ts that couldnt afford a loaf of bread a few years back let alone a well bred dog to start a programme with.
-
Id put that down more to lack of decent training/stockbreaking by a lot of bull cross owners
