Would be a hell of a lot more than "now and again" hard for a six year old to wring a chicken neck too! Still gives me nightmares aswell, guess we are all different after all Thing is I am not asking how to dispatch chickens, I have been dispatching various poultry for over 30 years, I've even done cows, sheep, horses, I even got to do a donkey once, the only thing I have never killed is a pig I think! I have never been squeemish about killing any thing, I'm not so sick as to say I enjoy it but its got to be done or I turn veggie and I cant see that happening. Can ya read ?

Try DVD decrypter nice and easy to use, if the DVD is too large to fit a single layer 4.7gb then shrink it with DVD shrink. There are loads of copy programs out there, the two I mention are free and easy to use, I have been using them for years, its all what ya get used too. If you get stuck PM me and I will try help. I have used this method a lot in the past mainly with geese and turkeys as they have thick necks, we only keep chickens now and I can do it by hand, the main point of getting one is so the kids can have more involvment in the whole process, axe and shooting is messy and probably put them off and give them nightmares. No worries though mate I should have explained a bit better to start with huh.

Tried the manual methods like I say, got axes too to get the rayburn going. When you have looked after the chickens for so long its only fair to dispatch them humanely with out mess or fuss especialy when showing the kids where dinner is coming from!

We are looking into investing in a humane electronic dispathcher, have tried the manual ones but find them messy and not all ways humane. Have searched the net but get bored of adds for ebay etc, does anyone know of any where to purchase one cheaply? We have seen several but think the one with two electrodes applied to both sides of the head rather than the spike version would suit us best, if not too expensive! Thanks in advance

That is a peice of art, but is there a laying box I cant see? We have been keeping chickens for years and find a laying box stuck out the back with a flip lid makes it easy to collect the eggs, chickens also like to lay in a comfortable peaceful position, I normaly make the laying boxes 1'x1' square they seem comfortable with that. You may have included one I cant see but just a thought if you didn't for the future. Nice bit of work all the same

The first thing I would advise is to invest in a decent knife for a start, preferably one with a gut hook if your new to gutting, this avoids going in too far and splitting any of the gut internaly. There are some good methods and tips in them posts though, start small think big, you will soon be an expert

When she texts me i always end up thinking she's some iliterate teenager and it take ages to translate what she's said. like some twisted game of countdown or summat, sorry, something. I know what you mean, my mum is 70 and takes longer to decipher her meaningless ramblings, I generaly have to phone her to ask what planet she is currently on. Hi, I just joined and am pretty new to forums. Thought I would introduce myself as advised. My name is Gav I live on the isle of lewis (top island of the outer hebrides), plenty of rabbits here as there are no foxes, the only predator really is mink but they are trapping them and dont see any, well I havent any way. The trouble is trying to get permission to shoot. The crofters here will gladly let you shoot geese (in season) on the crofts as they ruin the grazing for their sheep.
