  1. because these are smooth rod and don,t have the holding power of a wooden peg ,i have tried smaller pins and they can sometimes pull ,its just the way i do it ,the lad asked , i tried to help Sorry Moley, it was a genuine question mate, not having a pop at you. I was just was worried I was missing something and had been lucky that my pegs had held. no worries , i use rod cos its easier having the peg attatched straight to the chain ring and theres usually a fair bit of stone and roots to worry about , its easier straitening rod than replacing a wooden peg that bin smashed to b

  3. doubt it. not for the rabbits anyway. Anyway, i've had my say, you've had yours. Im saying no more on the subject wonder why?
  4. 6mm steel rod ,11-12 inch long ,bend a loop in one end and onto the chain ring, when you knock the pin in , angle it slightly into the hole so if the rabbit kicks away from the hole ,when its caught, the pin will definatly hold and you ain,t walking about below the hole looking for your trap
  5. hang on a minute boy , you asked me in a previous post , how i would manage to set a fixed pole net thru a wire fence and then went on to tell me that traditional nets are far superior to fixed pole nets and that you don,t use fixed pole nets , i think someone is telling porkies i,m begining to think you don,t know what your talking about and you say the first thing that comes into your head you,ll be getting a trammel next

By the way good use of the word AMBLE that,s how I like to see rabbits hitting nets... Regards Mapreader i have seen rabbits amble up to a net , touch it with its nose then bolt back out into the field from which it came, but like you said , rabbits can bounce off at speed and get caught when travelling slow, suppose its all down to how determined and where the rabbit wants to go, some good info there, i have one or two places similar

micky , why can the net only be set on the track ? why not set on the feeding field ? for the net to work properly , its best if the rabbits are moving at speed , if they have just gone thru a hedge , they will be alot slower and will not get caught up aswell
  8. write to the md at tikka , tell him the problem ,name names, tell him you are on the internet and go on most of the shooting hunting sites and will tell them all about it aswell and explain that you will take legal action if they do no put this problem right, worked for me when i had a problem with a car dealer, from pissing me about for 13 weeks to having it sorted in 4 days
  9. sometimes you gotta spend a little to gain alot, i have cut probably miles of hazel over the years for various things ,fox snares , rabbit snares ,longnets etc, i only us it for walking sticks now, theres a reason for that your still not telling me why the change of mind
  10. Whats to debate? You know what you prefer, i know what i prefer. What could possibly be left to debate? nowt , but i,m still curious as to how come all of a sudden you want fixed poles when you wouldn,t touch them before and you tried your hardest to make the rest of us look stupid for using them, and why hazel when fibre poles are light and easy to use ?
  11. so all of a sudden you don,t want to debate on whats the best net when you were happily putting up posts about how much better trad nets were over fixed poles makes a bit of a mockery out of all you said , suppose its just your youthful ignorance eh?
  12. i don,t think it really matters where you shoot the bugger, heart or lungs, some run on , some don,t ,the only guaranteed drop shots are neck, spine or head
  13. have you come to your senses ? its not that long ago you were telling us all how traditional nets were far better than fixed poles nets , why the change of mind ?
  14. no problem scuba, i told nightrunner he should put up posts explaining what he does to modify traps, snares etc , so if he,s given a chance, we can all learn summat
  15. shitty , you should watch and listen ,especially with your record on mink catching all mink traps should be set with drowning wires/chains , cos even tho we try ,as we all know not every animal is caught correctly and killed outright , therefore its of benefit to add this wire /chain to ensure an animal is not sitting pretty in a trap stapled to a box, i set all my mink traps with wires to allow the mink to drop into deep water wether its dead in the trap or not, i even set rat traps in the same way on stream banks just to be certain of a swift end these yanks are way ahead of us lads wh
  16. just had a keeper friend from teesdale on the phone asking me to keep an eye out for two terriers stolen today , he found them gone at 5pm ,they are brother and sister ,2 years old , bitch is broken coated black patterdale type, dog is border /lakey looking , they both have working scars, as you can imagine the lad is gutted, so lets hope he gets them back ,any help appreciated, why does this scum continue to steal from others, they cannot be good enuff to have terriers themselves
  17. these lads were not exersising thier dogs , they were looking for hares, right out in the middle of a cut siliage field dogs on slips, they turn up every year , if they were rabbiting , then common sense tell you to stay around the hedgebacks , they were also seen a few miles down the valley, i know young dogs need a start but why not leave a bit longer , even if its 8 months old we all have accidents , i walk my dogs well away from known hare fields and if i see a hare i go the other way, i don,t want my dogs chasing hares at all , but i still have the occasional cockup , these lads knew t
  18. moley you think with all his royalties and commission ,he would get a pair of wellies keep his feet dry he doesn,t need wellies , he walks on water
  19. if anyone puts up a post about shooting or snaring hares theres uproar from you die hard coursing lads , so why is it i see muppets walking the fields in summer (today) looking to course hares, leverets and preggy does ?, i hardly ever see running dog lads in the winter when hares should be run, do these so called "coursers" have no morals ?
