a while back , bill and i didn,t see eye to eye on the subject of trammels , but as grown men we sorted it out and once bill understood the reason i prefered trammels we have become friends and can see each others reasons for and against trammelled nets, another contraversial turd was more interested in the weight and not the catching ability , weight has never bin a problem , i,m a big lad and worry more about carrying the rabbits i catch rather than a couple of extra pounds in a basket you should have a word with bill , there,s far more slack in the inner walls than any other trammel net i

a contraversial subject , but i,m struck on using trammels for DAYLIGHT work , netrigger made me 4 x 25 yd trammels and they are the buisness , we had 93 rabbits one day a couple of weeks ago and about 70 odd were caught in the trammels with no bouncing off at all , of the 180 + rabbits i have had in bills nets and only one bounce off , bloody good average , he also came up with the idea of using tags to attach the poles to the net without half hitches, so far they are working great with no slipping at all ,i have used brinded and jbs diamond trammels before and bill advised me to use squa

just wondering if anyone has had any success at caging rabbits while theres snow on the ground , i was watching a rabbit today , come right up a field to where a farmer had dropped a small bit of siliage on the road side and the rabbit was comming for a feed, theres about 1-2 ft of snow about and the poor buggers are starting to get proper hungry ,thought i might make the best of it and try cage trapping em

i bought 100 kg a few years back off chaplins ,25 kg each for snareman , woodga , peggy and meself, if memory serves it cost about £140 each for , that works out at £5.60 per kg , prices have rocketed since then , but still it was a good saving , if theres plenty of interest , someone should do a deal and sell any surplus

Using GPS for mole trap location
moley replied to andybrock's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
the one i got , you could plug it into the computer and do a mapped print out with all the traps marked in red ,apparently , i never managed to work out how to get it out of the box -
Using GPS for mole trap location
moley replied to andybrock's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
i bought a gps , then sold up , so i never took it out of the box , but i was going to use it after talking to a guy that sold a cd rom on molecatching , i think its a good idea and might start using it for rabbit traps and snares -

not wanting to piss on ya fire matt , but they are advertising what looks like cheap copies of traps on that site ,i should think they would be better off insisting on good quality traps to keep the job humane

just to add to the debate, in the USA breakaways have bin in use for many years and the american snarers want to be able to hold a big coyote yet release a small deer ,which means the breakaways have to be very accurate as to how much tension they can hold or give at

dunno about others, I've only ever caught rabbits, never caught a bag, big or small once had a white "bag" float down the field when i was setting a net out , the "bag" turned out to be a piglet , it seems it just come for a look then fooked off again

i have used it a fair bit , but its best to trap in natural holes , just another option
-
whats a shake hole? its a term i have never heard before just holes in the ground about 20-30ft across and 10-15 ft deep, dunno how they are caused , but they are natural and usually have a biggish hole in the bottom where rabbits often live or run too with the dogs on em, cannot ferret or trap so i dig artificial holes to trap in , you often see them marked on OS maps

Its amazing how many people still believe 4 finger's high is high enough to snare rabbits they obviously have a lot of bumped snares and not many rabbits set your wires at 6 1/2 inches and see the difference for yourself i would struggle to set a snare at 4 fingers , cos when i offered you them traps last night , you almost snapped the buggers off
-
no as long as they are cobvered with a suitable tunnel (the definition of which is quite a controversy) they are perfectly legal heres one to try, dig yourself a rabbit hole , the perfect size for a trap , it wants to be about 12-18 inches long , then dig another smaller hole at an angle to it , set your trap , the rabbits will go into a hole that is fresh dug , especially if they can feel air but cannot see thru , its a version of the american elbow set for mink on river banks , flower beds are best as its not going to good to dig up the customers lawn ,you can also put urine from ano

give the lad a chance to explain why he sets his snare that way, well steve , i for one am interested where you get your info or is it from hands on experience and why would 6 inch be too high ?

you wouldn,t last two minutes around here if you take on that attitude, rabbits are pests if you have permission and game if you do not , thats how i understand it
