Help any ideas how to camoflage cage traps
murraywatt replied to akton's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
if your going to use them for mink your probably better digging a wooden tunnel into the bank and then slideing the cage in and out of it thats what ive used in the past with new cages after theyve been weathered of course, then you can have a few diffrent locations and just move the trap about, or even covering it with turf, the best one id seen was a cat cage that had been dug into the hill and turf put over it, it took root and just looks like a normal bit of the bank, just so hillwalkers didnt trash them but its up to you, just if your painting it best to make sur -

Knoydart must be one of the remotest places going, bloody brilliant! and glen coe aswell

a foot of normal fence wire bent in half used like they peg down rabbit netting works really well easy to stamp in aswell if its hard ground

if the stoat kills again, set a fenn trap at thr back of the dead birds neck and cover it with feathers straw etc so it is hidden, obvoisly youd need to do it inside the cage so nothing else can get into it and keep the rest of your chickens away

its easyer to sit them on rails and have them held in place with 4 nails hammered in a square with about 2cm sticking out, have them so when the traps set the nails are inside it if you know what i mean, dont have pictures though , the spring handle bend it down as well when set makes a neater job and stops stuff from landing on it and knocking the trap over

shite hawks are the name given to red kites diffrent kettle of fish from a gull one of the things you need to think about is whats your reasoning for shooting them, we can only shoot them on the estate at lambing time cos they hassle the lambs s if you think of something like that you should be sorted

BB im at borders college the now doing the NC gamekeeping. we dont have any textbooks as such but we do use the game conservancy books, they have them on just about every subject a gamekeeper needs to cover their great got all info you need for essays and things and they have all the laws related to that particular subject, the predator control one is especially good for the law side. hope that helps for now

otters could be a culprit aswell, i know someone who was having bother with one takeing the heads off the chickens and burying them, seen a hen mallard like that aswell next to an otter hole not too sure but maybe a mink although i dont know much about them apart from if you have otters you tend not to have mink and vice versa
