Just seen this re clyde after I posted on your separate thread.
  4. To be honest I have been thinking the same as I live 5 miles from the clyde. Would be interested to know as well.
  5. Out on Saturday with the new walked up syndicate. Couldn't hit a pheasant for toffee. After an hour or so's walking the shout of "'cock" from down the line to my left. Flies right across in front of me about 30 yrds out. Downed it with the fist barrell. Well chuffed even though I got nowt else all day

Went down to the Solway a couple of weeks ago, but all that was about were Banacles. Hoping to go again in a week or two, question is when do the Pink feet and greylags start appearing or if anyone has been recentley what was about? Ta S

    Goose ID

Always fancied a go at goose shooting but before I dive in doing a bit of research. First of probably many daft questions Any tips for quickly identifying the various species of geese in flight? I'm ok when they are on the ground or wate.r but would hate for an accident to happen and inadvertantly shoot a protected species. Thanks in advance S
  11. The difference is that Joe and Josephine public do not generally have a fox lying around on their sofa so are emotionally detatched. My experience of people is that they accept that foxes have to be controlled and are therefore on the whole indifferent. Cheers Stringer
  12. I think you may have missed my point. I never said that the cat wasn't a pest or shouldn't be controled in one way or another, I just think we dont need the photos to illustrate the point. Can you imagine the headlines if certain quarters within the media got hold of this. I somehow dont think they would present a very ballanced argument to their readers.
  13. Nice story & Buck. Where in Scotland are you? I'm in Kilmarnock. Stringer
  14. Regardless of the legalities and my personal opinion surrounding this, I don't beleive that the posting of photographs like this will win any support, for our cause, from the public at large. Probably quite the opposite in fact. I think the majorty of the public are willing to accept the fact that wild animals and game, are shot, but will be appalled by photographs showing "domestic animals" that have suffered a similar fate, irrespecive of the crime the have been accused. 15. What is patch out? http://www.sharpshootr.com/patchout.htm Came highly recommended from dealer. Thanks for the replies
  16. I have been trying to clean my brand new Sako 85 in (.243) barrel with "Patch Out" but I am struggling to get it totally clean. The rifle is only one month old and in my enthusiasm on my first outing I fired around 30 rounds before cleaning it by soaking it with “Patch Out†for 24 hours. I then patched it through until the patches were clean & put it away. On my next outing I had read their web site re breaking in a barrel and followed their instructions and fired 5 groups of 2, but cannot get a clean patch after soaking for 20 minutes between groups. I then tried soaking it
  17. Agreed. I have a six gun cabinet and it is a squeeze to get my rifle and shot gun in. Cant complain as I got it for nowt, but can see me having to get a bigger one in due course.
  18. FEO is going to recommend I have certs. but says it will take around 6 weeks
  19. Yes put in for both. I assume you are told that you will get the cert pending installation of cabinet
  20. nice one mate he will ask you on safety and about what happened years ago. like before be truthfull tell him how sorry you are and how you have changed then on the safety side you have had shotguns before and make sure your cabinet is fixed in a room away from visters and to a solid wall. ie in a bedroom will be fine as long as its a soild wall. good luck mate you will be fine Thanks mate
  21. 4 weeks since I sent in the forms & I've just had a call to arrange my home visit tomorrow. What is the Firearms Officer looking for. What sort of questions am I going to be asked? Will he expect my cabinet to be installed before I've been granted a liscence? Wish me luck. Cheers Stephen
  22. Thanks for that - more to it than i imagined
  23. Thanks, Forgive my ignorance but how do you "shoot it in"? Is it just a case of getting some rounds through the weapon before it is used in anger or is there more to it. Stephen
