  4. Just wondering what size the biggest hares caught or seen were? I've got one on my land which looks huge, wouldn't like to guess at its size but it must be 50% bigger than the normal ones, I saw it last year and again this weekend The couple of times my dogs coursed it (by accident) she can't get near it, ok she no world beater but still a useful dog So whats the biggest you caught (pre-ban)

  9. Just been looking at recent post on here where everyone is critising everyone else, and just wondered what people on here actually believe is the "The hunting Life" To me, "The Hunting Life" is about enjoying the countryside and what nature has to offer, pitting my wits against mother nature, wether it's hunting, shooting, fishing, hawking, ferreting, trapping, digging or lamping etc and the careful management/control of the wildlife by many different means for many different reasons (ie foods, sport or even money). With the understanding that although i don't always agree with what others wit
  10. here mine waiting to go out tonight
  11. Who was judging the dogs?, and did any one go to kildale show last weekend,I know the turn out was poor due to the weather.
  12. Can't believe i forgot about the show, was there a good turn out?
  13. I had this problem once, i found that the split pinn holding the the trigger and safety catch was a fraction bent, causing the catch to sit back to tight against the bar, try turning the split pin half a turn and see if this relieve the problem, if not just file a bit off the catch
  14. As i said in the original quote, they were only used on experienced hobs when they was a lot of young about in deep burrows this may have been once, twice, of the most three times a year, not a daily basis can't see a problem
  15. Your determined to bolster this argument eh.You seem to have turned it from muzzles to collars. Are you a lawyer by any chance lol sorry mate, getting carried a way, wouldn't care haven't used one in years, haven't done any serious ferreting in years if the truth be known. But I always thought that muzzles have their uses, and the arguement that you shouldn't use one in case you lose your ferret and it can't feed it self, is a bit lame. But i can't believe no one else uses them.
  16. wearing a finder collar you have very little chance of loosing your ferret now have you I wish i had a pound for every one thats been lost lol I'd be a rich man
  17. well if the ferret gets caught up in some roots or something you start digging I said if you lost the ferret, ie if it got away from the burrow without been seen, the collars not much good if your 500 metres away
  18. by normal collar i mean a ferret finder collar not one of those silly designer collars with leads lol
  19. Lets say you put one on a ferret you lose this ferret while you are out, that ferret can no longer feed its self so it starves to death Lets say you have a normal collar on, and you lose your ferret. it then gets a a big twig or root under the collar, so its trapped and cant get off. it would stave to. Not much of a excuse not to use them as and when required
  20. Death traps ? why? We used them occaisonally, on our old hobs especially at this time of year when there was a lot of young about, and you had some deep holes, nothing worst than digging five foot in the hot sun for a bunch of rabbits 4 inches long. we never had a problem with them, Did any one else use them?
  21. thats correct yea and killing hares single handed at 7 iv nowt to prove by lying have i to take it if your dogs cant do it no one elses can i dint say she killed all time at that age i said it was a one off you knowlike when your dogs get sumat its a one off I agree with you paul totally, my bitch caught here first rabbit by four months and took 4 or 5 hares single handed by nine months, not saying there wasn't a lot of luck, and not saying it was wise, but it can definetly be done by a dog no problem
  22. some great pics there, any more anyone?
