  1. I just plop a clove in the water or a cut clove in the ferrets water bottle. I thought it might stop them drinking but it doesn't, although my Springer likes picking out the garlic and carrying it around. I'm not putting it in the water long enough to know if it works. I started putting it in the water after a friend remarked that he hadn't lost a chick since he started doing .
  2. The whole idea behind garlic is that it when in the bloodstream internal parasites don't thrive. Then as garlic is in the blood external bloodsucking parasites wont be there either. It works too, the secret is getting it in to the dog. I feed it raw by chopping in fine and mixing it in their food. Some people buy it concentrated. I also put it in their water as I do my ferrets, canaries and fowls water. Mind you everything still gets it's routine worming. Garlic is not a cure all I just use it in my day to day routine.
  3. Why don't you spend your hard earned money on some pheasants of a game farm. Let some other a#####e take them on you. See how you like it. A lot of Robin Hood wannabees on here,
  4. I know hound dog but your flag is Irish.
  5. One way of letting a potential problem pass is to hold the dog tightly by it's lions between your legs and you then have two hands to hold the dog close to it's colar. Obviously you'll be static whilst doing this but it will let ie. someone walking a small dog or a cat, pass by. If you want to keep moving you have to be strong and firm. With a collar on tight (but not to tight) and a good grip on the lead you will be in control. When putting on a collar it takes 2 seconds to see will it come over the dogs head.
  6. Yes they do. Judging by your Irish flag that is. September 26 to Feburary 28. Fully protected in the North of Ireland. More fuel for the Antis this topic. JMHO
  7. If your not strong enough to hold the dog in question then you should be in control of that dog. A good quality greyhound collar and lead will hold ANY greyhound or lurcher as long as the other end is held tightly.
  8. Is that a collie in the picture, no insult meant. Is it a worker ? Is it a good working collie? Is the Irish terrier a worker? Is he a good working Irish terrier? Is the greyhound a good greyhound?
  9. It's not a professional way but it's easy. Stretch your rabbit skin and rub salt into it and leave for a couple of weeks in a dry place. Then buy a pumis stone from a chemist. This is used for removing dead, hard skin from feet by women (and vain men ,LOL) by rubbing. Rub the skin untill soft with the pumis stone. At this time of year because of breeding and molting any skin you cure aint going to last to long.
  10. Very interesting Murph. It would be something I'd like to try (the trapping then the eating) but as far as I'm aware we've only got our resident crayfish here in Ireland and I've seen some nice sized ones but as they're localised I wouldn't dream of trapping them. Is anyone aware of alien crayfish in Ireland?
  11. There's loads of breeds that resemble their ancestors. Doesn't mean they work like them though.
  12. Never seen a frog with a goatee before.......
  13. Every terrier has a fault of some sort. If it doesn't then your the first man to have the perfect terrier. But this is a fault that leaves absolutly no room for any other fault. But if your getting your game most times you put him to ground (as long as it's one hole most of the time) then he sounds like he has his uses.
  14. I thought it was Ferrets that were called Pugs !!!!
  15. Never heard of a fox just taking the eyes and tongue. Over here the grey crow takes the eyes and tongue so I suppose the carrion crow will take them else where. In fact I've seen the grey crow taking the eyes out of a ewe stuck on her back. IMO a lamb would have to be quiet weak for a magpie to do damage.
  16. I just hope I die in my sleep like my grandfather did, Not screaming like his passengers,
  17. Nice old type there. I wouldn't know but I know a couple of American men got pups of him 4 or 5 years ago.
  18. Your picture Pip shows one of the reasons we should have shows. If those rosettes are part of the reason that young fellow grows to love terriers it's good. I'm sure he'll see plenty of the "proper" reason to keep terriers in time too. And I'm sure he'll be shown how to do it properly too. Not like manys a child was brought out and shown by chancers never to go out again. Also in a show a judges job is not to judge a dog on work. It's as simple as that. I judged one of the biggest shows in Ireland a couple of years back. I gave Champion and reserve to two well known show people. Why? Becau
  19. I've no pictures but I had a bitch of Parkes breeding for 15 years and she was a very useful proper working terrier. I've also dug to a couple of others and they were good as they were in the hands of good terrier men. My only problem would be that they're hard to breed right but then I'm sure Mr. Parkes can breed them right.
  20. Common problem at this time of year. Seperate them now and with some luck and time you might be able to get them in the field together come Autumn. But unfortunately you wont be able to take your eye of them ever. A lot of people once the hunting finishes for the Summer do a lot of bushing or road walking to keep their terriers in good condition. Whilst this is the correct thing to do it also makes for a hyper-active highly strung trouble maker.
  21. Thanks lads. Actually Clogherhead is where I do my mackeral fishing. They were early enough last year and was wondering were they in yet. Seen some Mayfly on the Boyne the last few days so that should keep me busy 'till the mackeral.
  22. Anyone catching mackeral around Ireland yet?
  23. I've read on one of the angling boards that Fred passed away yesterday. Another good one gone forever.
  24. Could it be nesting material thats fallen down the hollow? From the picture it doesn't look like an actual bed has been made. But then it could be the way I'm looking at it.
