  1. I'd say in the last 30 years the number of working wheatens was at it's smallest around 8 to 10 years ago. And then there was probably more good ones than now. Why??? Because the men then bred to the standard that a working wheaten should be. How many on here know what the standard is? If all you want is a dog to finish at the end of a dig then I'd say you's have the best breed in the world over there in the states. And don't say that they're too quick to grab a terrier. And a wheaten wont? But then the grass is always greener on the other side. JMHO but there's those that should have whe
  2. That sounds like a confession from a man who waxes. LMFAO
  3. LOL with the amount of bookies being robbed there might come a day when there'll be armed security. LOL, we wont be doing that one.
  4. We were watching the racing in the pub one day. One of the lads wrote on a betting slip "this is a hold up ,just hand over the money" and he folded the slip in half. He asked a young fellow to go next door to the bookies and ask the girl behind the counter what price was that horse. The young fellow 2 minutes later came running back into the pub wanting to fight yer man.

  6. if ya trying to imply that i hunt them for sport try picking a doz dead hens and maybe a turkey or two and see if ya feel like waiting till winter to to find who,s doing the damage, i pay good money for me hens and i,m not prepared to see them go to feed some fox cubs! LOL Your a bit paranoid, I was meaning well. Must be my Irish accent. I too have lost valuble poultry to foxes. Like I said you deal with problem foxes. But when I loose fowl I target the foxes in that area and not drive 5 miles up the road for a handy shot out the window of a jeep, thus boosting my ego. You'll probably t
  7. Drawing a fox properly is when after you've removed your terrier you get in yourself and remove the fox. If the fox is to be released then it's released. Or as is commonly done nowadays a 60lb running dog is let in to the hole whilest it's owners stand around thinking they're looking at some real competition. JMHO The best way is to lift your terrier and shoot the fox in the stop end.
  8. It's not legal to use a dog to draw a fox .It's seen as causeing 2 animals to fight so leave the pictures of the inter-net boys. It does nothing for terrier work or hunting. It is legal to use terriers in fox control. The hare has full protection in the North. In the South it is totally illegal to course a hare except with greyhounds at a coursing meeting run under the rules of the I.C.C. The beagle hunts must apply for a liscence every year of the minister of the enviroment (that asshole John Gormley) and you can shoot hares with a shotgun if you've a game liscence.
  9. Absolutely, no doubt about it. But to have nothing to do other than to "hunt" a fox for "sport" (or any animal) at this time of year is the trademark of a messer. JMHO.
  10. I was always of the understanding Peter Sinead was lifted. Although a famous dog.
  11. I'm a big believer if you do enough fox control over the Winter you'll leave a small stable population of foxes and if a rougue appears you deal with it. I hate the type of fellow who starts his fox control in Spring and Summer. Come Autumn they're boasting about their tally. Just my opinion ,thats all.
  12. I wont say the trial under rules was a demanding test for a heavy dog but it was very hard to pass. Not many people know this but in all the trials ever ran only 3 dogs went their whole careers without failing. I'm not sure about 2 but I know Christy Macs Staff bitch (was it Princess or Duchess) was one of them. I'd say it was probably 50/50 staff/wheaten that passed over the years ,but I could be wrong. Because it was a hard test IMO a lot of dog men just used a qualified dog across a qualified bitch. Wether this was staff to staff or wheaten to wheaten or staff to wheaten it didn't matter
  13. Was probably packin' an uzi under his flat cap. In a pub like that you'd want a large gang of lads to go in and all order a couple of pints each. When they're all pulled everyone put on their flat caps before paying for the pints. If your asked to take them of everyone walks out.
  14. LOL believe it or not Irish Lurcher the river is right beside you. I'm after a big bream of it after a friend caught an 11 pounder on it and gave it to his grandfather to eat. Sadly I can't use worms because of the restrictions on Salmon fishing.
  15. I can't really remember the pedigrees of Brownlow Bob and Freecrow Hero but I think they were around in the 60s. They were probably registered as pure wheatens as the I.K.C. up untill 1966 ran the badger trials.
  16. You say you think it was the same gang had AN's dog last year. Why? Same method? Same vehicle? A clue might ring a bell with someone on here. Also at this time of year it's either for an upcoming horse fair or they're stolen to order. Or they're digging to them at this time of year and that might strike some one as unusual. Hope your mate gets them back.
  17. Have to agree Stevie it's a good read. Your right, it's a pleasure to see a man at the end of a dig after the terriers been lifted confidently and expertly quickly end the dig. Wether it's a quick kill or a release. To many youngsters nowadays not been shown or don't want to learn.
  18. it was off TL S stuff ? It was TLs breeding but am I right in saying it was Jackie who used the big EBT in the first place over a wheaten bitch?
  19. I owe you a pint Crowhill, ever see or have any Diddy-coy blood?
  20. Nice one Foxdropper, I'm jealous. I've been out a few times after bream lately with nothing special. 3 or 4 lbs biggest but not to many of them. Although I did loose a bream on a river last week that I reckon was in the 8 or 9 lb bracket but thats it. The good old worm, eh.
  21. You'll find the vixen will have them moved by morning. In the past with litters born within veiw of a road and doing no harm I've often gone out and let a terrier in the lenght of it's lead. The following morning they're gone. No apologies but I hate the Summer rifle men and diggers. If they were a problem I'd sort it out. Looks like you'll have to bring your collie on a dig in the Winter,
  22. Ah the wheaten X bull, used to be thee cross to have. Any off you experts remember the Diddy-Coy wheatens? And what was the name of the bull used? First prize is a pint when I see ya,
  23. Excactly. You usually wont know your bitch is in pup 'till about week five. So going off her food between week 3 and 4 is a sign I like to see. If your bitch is not looseing condition then don't worry.
  24. Booth bred Smithy, or so he tried to say.LOL. If it's true that Smithy is bred like they say then it's a breeding that clicked. Testement that the breeding was good is that when his blood fell into the right hands and was then kept tight it stayed good. There are more than a few good yards based on Smithy. Even now many years later. A combination of good breeding by good breeders. The mystery IMO is how such a good terrier changed hands more than once.
