Some of you may have seen a picture in a National Newspaper recently of a giant rat caught in Eastern Region. Well this was actually a small Koypu from South America let loose with some others by Animals Rights campaigners. The Koypu is a member of the rat family and breed at the same rate. This can mean a trying time for Farmers if these animals take a hold. Like the European rat they are voracious eaters and will reek havoc on grain and vegetable stores if they are allowed to breed freely. This has happened before with the Mink which when 'Freed' by Animal Rights caused chaos to the region a

I see there is someone out there that appreciates the Cooey. Although it carries the "Cooey" name it is manufactured by Winchester. It is true that you can have three or four Cooey by just changing the barrels. A previous Cooey I had (Pre 1961 model. Before Winchester) I had a 20gauge barrel. I am not sure how far up the scale you can go but this poster Borntoshoot claims you cam go up to 10 gauge. The only problem is they are slightly heavy for a younster or Female learner. -

Hi Dullahan. Sorry to hear of your stroke mate, and that you have to give up your hunting. Wish you luck with the sale of your kit, and also with the Book. I will place my order now for the book, I bet it will be a corker after 60 years in the field, a few stories to tell a mate ? All the best. Bill. Thanks for your good wishes Bill. I have been poaching since the age of eleven when I went out with my Grandfather. This disabling affliciction is really heartbreaking for me ( I have had to learn to type on this computer with one hand and a pencil in my mouth and I am learni -

With the government proposing new Dog registration and the microchipping of All dogs plus insurance on each animal surely this will hit the Hunting community hardest of all. Does this mean that the Hunts will have to microchip each animal and insure animals individually. What about Shooters with gundogs or Hunters with Lurchers and Terriers. The only positive aspect of this proposed legislation is that it will stop the "Cowboy" dog Breeders from selling diseased and sick animals. Dullahan.

My grandson gave me a Laser pointer when he came back from holiday (he's only 12) so not knowing what I needed it for I taped it on to the barrel of my S400 and I could could spot the target easily through the scope. I thought I would try it out on Bunnies worked great. Head shot every time

The name of my cylinder type is DIN. You are better to purchase the cylinder from your gun shop as you can then take to refill. I have a charging set for sale on this forum if you care to look at it. Dullahan

It is probably a Baikal. Although I have not owned a S/S Baikal, I do own a U/O Baikal and love it. It is a bit heavy at the front end (or it may be me getting old). It must be an early Baikal. But the Firing pin in a Baikal is not a problem to replace (for a gunsmith).

Here is all you need to do it. http://cahe.nmsu.edu/pubs/_l/l-103.pdf Best of luck Dullahan

Hi SS06. I have used 410 slugs also in the U.S. when I lived there but that was 12 years ago. They came from the 'Rocky Mountain Cartridge Company' and I have used them for Boar (you have to be close) I didn't know they were classed here as firearms ammunition. By the way, SS, I got the Carburettor Cleaner and did the Barrels on my Belgian folder. I will let you know how it turns out. Cheers.

Has anybody ever had any slugs for 410 shotguns. I have acquired a dozen brass cartridges and a dozen steel cases (Russian) for 410 shotgun. I was thinking of reloading with Brenneke slugs or similar to try out on Boar Hunting.

My Jack Russell (12 years old) had cancer of the kidneys (few years ago now) had treatment and operations for three months at a cost of £400. You ought to name your remaining pup "Highwayman" seeing as you have been subjected to Highway robbery

How can you call the person who took in the dog "A meddling person". If the owner had more concern and control over his dog it wouldn't have wanted to "Go for a Walk". I see some of your point, but there seems to be a lot of people who take on other peoples lost animals without any thought as to how there owner feels as to losing the animal and dont report it found..... If the owner put a I.D. on the collar with a telephone number it is most likely the "Meddling Person" would meddle further and telephone.

Murph, is it not true that the main reason for the decline in native British crayfish was the 'Crayfish plague' caused by a fungus brought here by the American Crayfish (a sort of Crayfish AIDS) and now it is becoming prevelant in the Australian Crayfish and may be attacking the Turkish crayfish. This is why some of the habitats are being designated SSI by the E.A. and licences are being issued.

When I was about 11 years old (60 years ago) we used to catch crayfish using a bicycle wheel. We would bait the Wheel with meat of some kind by tying it to the spokes then lay in in the water with a thin rope through the spindle hole (usually a bit of clothes line) and tie it to a branch the crayfish would take the bait and hold on to it. I don't know if you could do it these days with the American species having invaded our rivers and lakes.
