  1. As the title suggests how long will i need to wait after doing a warren to do it again, the bloke who sold me my ferrets said the scent of ferret is in the burrow for about 3 months, is this true??????? I hope this isnt a stupid question but i am fairly new to ferreting
  2. Thanks scent, actually thanks twice.
  3. Sue, is'nt it about 6 o'clock sunday morning there, your keen, i'd still be in bed. :lazy: :lazy: :lazy:
  4. Thanks for the advice sue, That photo isnt great but I put a good 12'' of net in the burrow along the ground so the rabbit has to run into them, but I think you are right about them being to stretched. Victor, I am located near Sydney nsw.
  5. Hey guys, As some of you know I got my ferrets last week and went for my firts run on the weekend. I had been before with the bloke I got them of, but this was my first go by myself. Bolted 6 but lost 4, seems I have a bit to learn about netting burrows. Also it allowed my whippet pup to have a look. My wife with Chase and the catch. My daughter waiting to get a bolter.
  6. Thanks for that guys, I am going for my first hunt with them tommorrow so hopefully you will see a post of some pics, thanks again guys
  7. G'day guys, I completed the hutch and got my 2 new jills yesterday morning and thought I would just say thanks to all the guys who gave me the advice and here are some pics. It is 6x2x2 foot top and bottom, the top is sleeping and the bottom is play. The only thing I need to know now is where to put the food water and litter tray top or bottom I am assuming you would'nt put the food and water on the same level as the litter tray but I could be wrong and am open to sujestions.
  8. I am not sure how to add things to the topic so just got ot you tube and search dog attack shark and see the dog course a shark!!!!!!!
  9. thats very true disturbed, Most hunting crosses here are breed for pigs and bloke seem to go for big mastiff types and dane types around here rather than a speed dog. Personly I used to use a kelpie/bully/wolfhound and a bully grey. I have had a look around for some of the terriers I have seen on this site but they only seem to be available here as show dogs and dont look like the good working terreiers I see on this site.
  10. I just cant take the chance of my race birds not trapping on race day because of the ferrets but I may be able to use this as an occasional play area for them. he took me out with him this morning to see the jills work, the rew jill flushed 7 but was a bit nippy when I took her out of the burrows and the sable jill only flushed 4 but she is like a little dog, when the bunnies bolted she would pop her head out and dart back in, then after the den was done she just wonders out and shows no intrest in that burrow anymore, she is more experienced than the other tough so hopefully they both become
  11. cool, thanks for that bud, hey thats a great looking setup you have all looks neat and tidy.
  12. I had a bloke come to my place today who has offered to give me 2 working jills and he pointed out that because the court is a converted loft and is connected to my race birds the ferrets may smell them and stress out trying to get to them, which made me realise that the race birds may stress with the smell of ferret next to them aswell. I decided to build a 2 story hutch 6foot long and 2.5 foot deep and each level is 2 foot high. I have completed the top level and the bottom just needs the ramp and doors. when I am finnished I will post some pics but from this description do you think i
  13. hey bud, I did a search on this forum for housing requirements and any questions i still neede answered i asked in the topic,''housing advise needed'',the people from this site have been more than helpfull to me and i hope that thread answers your housing questions. As for feeding, if you do a search on feeding, diets or food in this forum it will answer all your questions.
  14. What are teckles, are they a pure breed or a recent form of hunting dog, are they a little bit harder to controll as I did a search on them and did'nt come up with much, but the few things i did find seemed to all be about loosing them or having them run a muck. I have never heard of them, I'm pretty sure we don't have them here.
  15. thanks disturbed, I will put a post up on ozziegoggers and see what I come up with, I am on there already as kermet, That is the site I used to give away a pig dog that was given to me but I just could'nt get out with anyone, rabbits and foxes are a bit closer to home and I have easy access to properties
  16. the only stag crosses i have found in the papers have been crossed to pig dogs but I am in negotiations with wy wife at the moment as to getting a pure staghound, because we checked out the link put on by disturbed and it said,'' Temperament - Very calm around the home.''. But she is still alittle put off by thier size as our daughter is only 19 months old, and we want her to be able to walk around the yard without being knocked over. we would want a bitch so hopefully I can find one that aint to big. If anyone has any pics of staghounds that are not that big or are with kids in the pic that
  17. just thought I would put up a pic of my whippet pup, 'Chase', 13 weeks old.
  18. wombats are protected and they are dog smashers
  19. nice one socks, practicle aswell
  20. I am in sydney, and I can't seem to find any stag crosses nearby. There is not many wombat holes where I hunt but there are some so I will take that into consideration good point. As I said all I have now is 1 whippet pup so I am just researching at this point, I want to make sure I get the right team to cover most areas.
  21. Thanks heaps, I now have some good ideas of what i'll need to build and I will post some pics when I am done if i can work out how thanks again, murray
  22. thanks stubby you have been extremely helpfull, When the season is over does the entire hob go in the court with the jills and the vasectamized hob, or will the 2 boys blew each other.
  23. thanks stabs, Thats what I thaught as the staffies I normaly see are not what you would call ''built for speed'', maybe a cross to a whippet a produce something like a smaller bully/grey. I had a look through some of the fox hunting pics blokes have posted up here, and I think they might be dealing with bigger foxes than what we have here some of them look like theywould give a bull arab a run for its money
  24. thats a good point stubby, single whelping cages sound like the go, what sort of measurements and how are they set up if you dont mind me asking?
