Yeh unfortunate for the chicken owner. Just have to build a better enclosure (hard I know). The foxes on our permission are healthy and arent considered pests. They dont rob the farmer of anything, and cant get through his enclosure. He even leaves food out for them! Once even ordered the hunt off his land to protect a huge dog fox that was hiding in some tyres. I can see that they are pests in alot of places, and jesus they were nasty in Bristol, riddled in skin diseases etc. At least the chickens went to some use rather than just the kill and left.. Jack

Use your elbows! I think you get so much more versatility with your rifle free hand! All the best Jack -
Very inventive mate, tehy wont even hear you shooting from the kitchen! What size are those little yellow squares? Jack

Hey Jack, I'd agree with almost all you said, but the Mildot was developed by the military precisely for Range Finding by knowing the height of the target (or approximate height) you would then use the mildots to measure how far away the target was. Once the distance to the target had been worked out, the sniper would dial in using the elevation turret this enabled him to place the crosshair exactly where he wanted the bullet to land, no hold over or hold under was required There yah go, learn something new every day Oh I think it was Darryl, Marksman who did a good description

Nice one mate, great first outting for a new gun! I think that your garden is perfect for zeroing by the sounds of it, most people recommend a 25 meter zero for a springer in .22 (my experienced gun smith does anyway) dont know about .177 but it seems to work ok for you!!! Jack

Zini's explained it basically mate. One thing I'll add is you obviously dont need a mildot scope to do this. I've been shooting for a few year and have always had normal reticle scopes until recently when I bought a new one. I would zero at 25meters and then wouldmove back to 30 meters and shoot the same target and see how much more I had to aim above to hit it as the pellet is dropping after about 20 meters. The benefit of mildots is it takes the guesswork out of knowing how much to aim over (hold over) and to hit something which is further than your normal zero point. However y

I'm pretty sure I'm not canting it mate but I see where your coming from. Its just frustrating as I cloverleaf pellets at 25 meters which is my zero point quite easily and somehow missed alot in the same spot! Eeven on the same shoot I made some much better shots! I put it down to bad luck and will eliminate any errors next time. Jack

Good shooting Shannon! You get kickers occasionally if your shot placement is just a bit off. I'm sure your dad explained, you've got a good teacher hahah! Anyway keep on practising and taking down those bunnies! Jack

Next day i headed back for one more go at the rabbits, this time a day time shoot as I was driving back to Bristol that night. The warren i have been massivley unlucky on doesnt seem to show any activity in the day so I will leave that for tthis weekend coming where I'm hopefully going to make up for all those misses andlift the curse from that damned warren! Cant remember the lead up details of this one but was a stalk where I had to sit down when I got to my destination, seem to remember it being 30 meters. With RWS superdones (14.3/5?gr)a 30 meter shot requires me to basically use the f

I may add that both these rabbits went down in textbook fashion, you can see the blood from the ear that it decimated the lower brain.. I'm just highlighting the reason why the shotplacement wasnt exactly where I wanted and my workings out - this is the way we learn from eachother/ I have learnt from others. The pellet hit this one with such force as it was heading downhill it made the loadest crack I've heard in along time from rabbit shooting and did a double flipin the direction the pellet took it!

After this miss I headed back the way I had just come and made the small kill. This is quite handy being able to pop between a static position then move to a stalking style of hunt where the rabbits have refreshed. I basically made exactly the same shot again on a largewr rabbit. As both shots were a tiny bit low (Point of impact in relation to killzone) (the small bunny pic and this one) it seems that although the slant they were taken is quite steep, a 35 meter shot POI had become probably about 32meters with the slant and I had been aiming as if it were 30 meter. I'm sure you udnerstan

Upon inspection the bunny was smaller than anticipated, however was the only visible one from my sat position and the dips the others were in. With this I headed back to the camo net, got into position and not long , later a rabbit came out, gave him time to settle and too kthe shot at around 30 meters. Again, I missed. I was very annoyed, couldnt get my head round why I was missing these prone shots as there my best !!!

So I came back i nthe evening, got behind my net and waited. Didnt take long, the weather was perfect apart from a breeze but had been warm all day and the warren was very active. As this all happened a week ago I cant remember the details so will just summarise. I somehow missed by first rabbit which was at about 27 meters. I was really pissed off at this. I just cant udnerstand how I was missing, it went over the bunnies head I'm sure of it. Maybe I overheld just a bit too much. However it was good it went over and wasnt too low or horizontally incorrect wounding the bunny as a failed

The next day I went for a target session practising from 20-35 and was happy with it. I then thought back to the night before and remembered that at this spot there was a good potential I could make a kill and then get a follow up shot ready to take down any bunnies who didnt leg it. Something Multi-shot precharged shooters are accustomed to. To be able to make this follow up shot I needed to reload quietly, but more importantly with as little movement visible to the rabbits as possible, so constructed with 2 poles and a camo net from the boot of my car a very simple 'hide' that would

Howdy all, As everyone I'm sure is fully aware the weather has turned and we are on our way into peak rabbit shooting! Permissions all other the country will seem to be spawning rabbits they never knew they had so many of! I've been excavating in Berkely about 40 minutes from Bristol all this week in the sun, which at times has been great and not so good at other times! Last weekend I was home and got my first chance to check out how the rabbit presence was doing on the permission. The week before (maybe 2 weeks?! ) when I witnessed the car crash when leaving the permiss

Great shooting Phantom. It does amaze me a graveyard allowed you to shoot there. Obviously its a prime reason to have you there with rabbits messing the place up. Are the public walking round occasionally when you shoot? Once again mate great stuff. Jack

There are 2-3 brands that are exactly the same as AA fields, RWS Superfields are also identical, although my gun smith said they have changed slightly recently..

Cheers mate, well wasnt what I was expecting to be writing up about ahah! I've got a few rabbits and done a few write-ups while you've been out in the field if they are a few pages back, had a target sesh just now and waiting till a bit later to go in for a full hunt! Yeh you've got it bang on there mate. Happens all the time, but our roads are so mad that its a high price to pay if you mess up. I've got almost 6 years no claims(touch wood) and I'm 22, I've got an old Vauxhall Corsa that starts to shake when you go over 70 so I've never been into pushing the limits like that. If your
