Whats the best and worst pellets you've used?
JackReid replied to slingshot82's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hello mate. Maybe try the grouping on the pest controllers at 15 meters?? Maybe 25 is just that bit too far? Best performance I've used I suppose are the AA Field style pellets, in their variety of producers and tiny differrences respectivley. e.g RWS Superfields, JSB's and so on. However I would say that possibly for all round best pellet that I have used over the years is RWS superdomes. A good mid weight pellet and you'll be lucky to find ONE in a tin thats not perfect as they are solid little b*****ds. However they're probably not as good performance wise as AA Field. WORST pel -

I would usually have it a bit more than 25 yards o nthe parallax, so more than in this picture as I do my ranging in meters. notice its in line with the scope lens cover top. However I cant be certain it was a time where it wasnt straight. Is it possible to do this for my own eye myself? -
Hey guys. So as I will mention in my OTHER problem thread I'm sending my gun off for a full tune at Sandwell Fieldsports... I took my scope off my rifle today - Hawke Varmint II 3-12X44. Cracking scope everything is spot on, amazing optics. I decided to help some of my more amatuer gunning mates out. One has a BSA Supersport that he used to just take out rabbits at ranges less than 30m. For about a year its had a grouping the size of a football andf he doesnt really shoot anymore so after me getting screws tight, padding out the stock etc it seemed to get better. But I did the fi

I cant massivley help mate but put the decoys out at about 25 meters or wherever your comofrtable shooting from, could be 15 meters if you like! Hopefully wait for one to land and shoot him, then hopefully the others should go mad and you just got to home they keep landing. Your hide has to be pretty damn good tho crows see everything, dont be disheartened if you dont badly theres always next time when you can do a bit more research! Take some food bait with you aswell to put amongst the group of decoys? Cracked egg? Meat? Jack

Zini do you usually send your gun in the post or are you close enough to drive there?? When you have sent guns in the past what do you usually do and how much does it cost? I'm an hour and two mintues from West Brommich, May well post it there and pick it up personally? Jack -
Is my Spring worn out?
JackReid replied to JackReid's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Yeh well my knowledge of tuning etc is nothing compared to you lots., I think for 75 quid he meant he would change spring service it all cleaned up change seals or whatever. What is it that goes beyond this that we call 'tuning'? (Dont worry about giving me the whole shibang just basics). Basically I'm asking what will Tony do which is better than this guy for the same price (apart from his skills at doing it all)? Will he be replacing lots of parts or what?? Sorry for confused post - still feel a bit delerious with this food poisoning! Jack -

Yeah I here you buddy. Shall I phone him and say you passed me on and discuss things with him price etc? Jack p.s I f g hate being a skint student! -
Bad news on this end. All started the otherday when I cocked my rifle pulling the barrell down and it didnt lock into place, it wasnt catching. Repeasted the process and it did lock and al lwas fine. This has happened once or twice a shoot for a week. Then today hitting some targets it wouldnt lock down at all, I tried and tried bring the barrell down but it wasnt catching at all. So I jumped into the car to gunsmiths, he takes it out the stock, takes the trigger unit out and fiddles with the Sear thingymabob which wasnt catching. Somehow he got it fixed put the trigger bac

JackReid replied to honesthunter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Dont want to be aiming for the eye mate, you could have hit him through one eye and out the other without killing him and the rabbit running for its life using its sense of smell as a guide. You need to totally nail them and hit the brain, between the eye and the ear. 11ftlb is a good power to be running at. Hit the targets and try again, maybe watch some vids about where to shoot a rabbit etc?? All the best Jack -
Same question mate... Probably has a history behind it, looks like a HW77 in a sorta HW95ish custom looking stock but different!? Fill us in mate! Jack
-
Nice one mate good shot placement. I didn't understand the bit about clapping behind the rabbit up-close? Were you in an area you couldnt shoot? Jack

Cheers fella's. Yeh sorry about the length, hard to find a balance between a post thats alike a small novel or on the opposite end of the sepectrum 'hi guys i shot 2 rabits cheers' lol! Going out again later so should be more to come hopefully. Jack

End of night. All the best. Zini and Shay: Sorry the topic comes in diff posts. I cant upload more than 500kb files per post... I have seen people doing many large pictures on one post and really want to know how to do this... hmmm. Thanks for positive comments. Shay its a HW95K about 3 years old. Looks a bit naff here in the flash of the camera but is a great rifle will keep it forever as it was my first full power gun. Jack

Moving up the opposite hill to the slope I originally was coming down when I saw the deer, as I got to the top I moved along alot of farm machinerary and nettles, I was expecting to see rabbits here, all of a sudden a small kit was stood on its back legs at about 15 meters. I left it purely because I felt confident there would be larger rabbits no more than 30 meters along and didnt want to scare them off. I let the bunny know I was there and it drifted calmy into the nettles. I was right about more bunnies. About 20 meters further on I flanked 2 youngish rabbits, They were at a diago

As found. Put my kill on the cattle trough and moved up the bank of the hill to more blooming rabbit spots.

Looking right from this slope down the field where a fence line squares the field off, and acts as a barrier between this field and the one opposite is where I was now going to head, and also where the deer were. Challenge to you eager eyes; spot the bunny near them in 10 seconds or less hahah!. This hedgeline at the bottom of the field on both sides is fairly good for rabbits, especially as it becomes overgrown in patches as you can see its a great joy to stalk along not knowing where the next bunny will emerge. Are these Roe Deer? Click images to enlarge.. may be hard to tell from her

As a reminder this is where I was intending on getting to. After bypassing accross a fields corner and missing a rabbit I was now heading down the hedgeline in order to get to this position and hopefully bag some bunnies. However no such luck. I could see one nice rabbit sat out with some bracken hanging out the hedge, just a long leafy branch, so I actually walked away from the hedgeline as he could just about see me even here. I walked out into the field at an angle so that the bracken infront of the rabbits face blacked his view of me, as long as I kept the angle right. I often use over

Greetings all... So I moved out of my Bristol house over the last few days starting to discontruct my room. Albeit with mild food poisoning in the heat was not very nice at all, just felt very feverish and bad stomach. Managed to load my car (heavily overloaded infact) with every item I own apart from my very huge Guitar Rig. I will go back for that when room choosing the new house ! Getting things packed away then eating dinner I only had one thing on my mind and we all know what that was . So I headed out to the farm, punched a target at 25 meters then one at 30 meters to fl
