Best time of day to go for rabbits.
JackReid replied to wanderinstar's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Its the years old question buddy. Everywhere is a bit different and changes over time. Only by spending time there will you get a feel for it, and even then, you may have it right and be on the wrong end of luck that evening! Just got to take it in your stride and keep at it! Jack -

Hi mate, Your probably out killing by now but when I bought a tin I didnt get really far with them as they just didnt suit for longer ranges. They way like 21g or something? I always saw them as close range killers, like rats etc, They droop down alot in .22 but after a quick zero you will make your own mind up!. Let us know how they are. Jack

Spot on mate good to hear mate, I think I may have a place or two lined up that are new! Keep us posted, I'd love to get at some rats! Jack

700 Pellets fired....Still no zero...
JackReid replied to JackReid's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
hey guys. I wrote loads about what I was going to do regardng where I left off re fitting the scope, shimming the rings etc but then pressed back and it wasnt her when I came back! So I will confine loads of writing into a small ammount that will make me look very abrupt. -Can someone iliiterate the definition of 'Cantering' for me, I know its refrence is to the vertical aspect of the crosshair and shot placement but more would hlp... However this may seem stupid now but I am also suspecting dirty barrel. I have never actually cleaned it and fired thousands and thousands of pel -
My understanding was the rest douest really come off buddy, give it a scrub with some WD 40 or something, get some of it off but on the whole just make sure its nice and oiled up to prevent further rusting. Although its not nice to have a rusty gun, the insides are what count. Jack

This post is pure gold phantom! Read the story then got to the bit of a portrait and I thought 'does he mean a photo?' then scrolled down and the picture cracked me up! Send the story to your local tv station mate, will be the first good press about an air gunner probably ever!! All the best Jack

700 Pellets fired....Still no zero...
JackReid replied to JackReid's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Cheers for feedback guys. As for power and consistency its chorno'd very consistent at literally 12ftlb... the average JUST fell below this which is lucky. I know your thinking maybe too much power but I dont think so. Also I doubt it is any of the guns internals, its firing beautifully smooth as usual and a guy who really knows his tuff at the gun shop listening to it while we chrono'd said it sounded spot on. After a think I recon that the first problem was a loose screw under the trigger, the first reason ofr large groupings... Then...I have taken all the scope off etc re fitte -
700 Pellets fired....Still no zero...
JackReid replied to JackReid's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Ok cheers guys. Keep them coming however. I am certain its not me and must be the equipment, although the problems were so subtle thats why it took me so long to realise something was definatley up. I am thinking its more likely just an unlucky faulty scope rather than the gun... The pellets I'm using I've used endlessly so shouldnt be them. Although its a good point as some pellets just totally dont agree with some barrels. Remember using some Power Hunters or something ages ago and they threw tennisball size groupings hah! Anyway keep the advice or similar experience coming, ne -
Hello all.... Yesterday and today have driven me to the point of insanity. Drove back to Oxfordshire from Bristol to nail some quarry all weekend; with spring on its way everywheres coming alive again! However I will try diagnose this problem best I can so you all can make your own opinions to where the problem may lie... There is a possibility this has been builing up for awhile as I've had the odd pre or post hutn zero and sometimes thought it was a bit irratic. But mainly yesterday i went out, got to 25 metres in my chosen area. and got shooting. I had a bit of trouble zero'ing

Hey buddy, Wrong section, I made the same mistake yesterday. Needs to go in the General Air banter rifle bit next time, hopefulyl an admin moves all these topics in the main forum to the right places soon. As for the hares buddy its a bit of a grey area it seems. As with pheasants, I dotnt hink they are o nthe general air rifle license... Although both can be humanely killed by a top shooter I dont see it as a healthy way to go with growing anti feelings towards hunting. I personally see nothing wrong with pheasants being taken humanely. But I would most definatley hesitate in tak

Equipment maintenance
JackReid replied to JackReid's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Yeh evaporation is a good point, Left against too higher heat source it will warp the wood possibly which is not what you want! Knew a guy who years ago left a nice Fender electric guitar against a radiator without realising for days and it totally wrote the wood work off! Jack -
Equipment maintenance
JackReid replied to JackReid's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Ah my mistake, dosed off and thought I was in technical.. Admin hopefully will notice and move. Jack -
Hi guys, Thought I would post a topic about maintenance of your equipment, not just your rifle, but any other related equipment. Also it may be interesting and show people things they didnt know that may prolong the life of their equipment. Mention your gun type (spring / pvp etc) and model and anything you do fairl regularly. Im fully aware that you dont fix something thats not broken but might be interesting to here from a few of you. Im firing a springer as mentioned i nthe signature, and like any gun make sure my gun has had a oily cloth over the metalwork after any shoot or

Yeh man sounds like a case of over pentration and maybe just off the kill zone. Shows howsmall it actually is. Was it the neck or the cheek? Maybe needed to be a bit higher if it was the cheek. With the neck you want to fairly central aswell to try take out the spine. Bad luck but you learn from it! Over penetration takes away some of the force of the blow, but saying that if you got the brain bang on it should die there and then. Sometimes you get freak things happen you know? You see it with humans sometimes e.g screw driver through head but still alive and completley fine (saw on a document

Its possible, they are both social animals pigeons and rabbits. Maybe try pop a fair freshly killed rabbit out a warren with a stick under into underside of its head and then otherside in floor so its not blatently dead, they may get the smell of it down the hole and think a buddy is out playing (probably more of an incentive to leave any dead bunnies in situ until finished in your position). However I dont think its going to be too effective. Less tampering round their environment the better I think! Jack

Wicked read mate, loads of buzzards my way also, not that cheeky however but I remember their presence definatley kept the rabbits down on one end of the permission. Reminds me of seeing this huge bird of prey (not sure what it was) when I was traveling in New Zealand flying alongside my car in a field and taking a rabbit back up into the sky! Ever seen a buzzard take a live rabbit? Do you thin kthey would have the confidence for a full grown one? They sure as hell have the tools to do it! Good shooting Jack

whats right with it.. not hard to shoot somthing that is sleeping in a tree is it.. or having just fed is roosting unable to fly cos its digesting its food.. not sporting and a VERY LAZY WAY TO HUNT!!! but! less Sky pests the better.. Have you ever tryed shooting woodies with an air rifle shooting woodies with an air rifle is so easy its unreal .. if you cant even get close to em to shoot em with out spooking them then you really are a crap hunter .. decoys are made to BRING THEM TO YOU! i love it when people who cant shot or hunt for shit bitch keep it up .. lol for

Once again, would never do this now or support it... My mate and I were messing around with a Crossman (no idea model) 12 shot semi auto .177 rifle. cO2 Obviously and just a fun plinking gun. HUGE corvid came swinging in and from my car window he fired off 3 shots in less than a second at it around 20 yards. Pulled the gun back in not even hoping it had hit it, and the bird carried on gliding unchanged (no flapping) and it kept going like a glider until it perfectly landed on its stomach wings still spread in the grass. I went over and it was stone dead, must have been a heart shot by the

Good shooting mate! Phantom I am in a similar position. I know somebody who owns a holiday sort of park thing, infested with squirrels and they bloody catch them in traps then drown them?! Well, they get the innocent car taker to do it I'm told... I would nail them for free also but the place is nearly constantly booked so they wont have me walking about with the gun. Maybe wil contact and say if they get a empty week then the squizzer busters will move in Jack
