  1. Buy the best you can, and don't forget you've got to be able to hold the damn things steady by hand! Think 10X may even be pushing it stability-wise... As others have said 8X or 7X generally best...

  4. Find out which of the premiums your rifle shoots well with and stick with them. You can typically take around 5 kg of ammunition with you when you fly which is plenty for even a two-weeker...
  5. Realistically you could choose from a myriad of decently made .30 rifles, and personal experience will always affect choice. I'd say a Sauer or Sako reliably produce accurate, nice quality rifles. One thing to note- if you're after plains game in Africa, make sure you're using the best bullets you can find. (Think Partition/TSX/Trophy Bonded) This is probably more important than your choice of rifle.
