  1. Thanks Aled, I think I now have my heart set on a s/h 686 - will get the most decent one I can afford and see if they are all they are cracked up to be! Cheers pal, John.
  2. Good evening Wingshooter, Thank you for your helpful suggestions - I'm afraid I gave up last night - with all the hassle from that troll! I checked out Bettinsoli guns and they are a very reassonable price and the styling at the top end is quality but I am after a 28" fixed choke gun for predominantly game shooting (and the occasional 'social' clay shooting!). The Avalon site is brilliant - good selection of guns and competitive pricing too - thanks for suggesting it. I have e-mailed them regarding a s/h Beretta 686 Special they have for sale and will see if it's a deal! Cheers
  3. Phew....you're not kidding! I was just about to give up - it's one thing having a site full of lively debate and banter but it is another if new members get bombarded by trolls and treated like the enemy! cheers, John.
  4. nice try fella you've lost me mate!! Cheers, John.
  5. who said anything about artificial light?!! Roost shooting involves shooting pigeons as they fly in to the woods at the end of the day to roost - you know that already right? This place is so jumpy - bloddy hell! First I get saddled with a bloody troll who used to be known as 'guevara' and now I'm being asked tricky questions! Oh well - onwards and upwards! Cheers, John.
  6. How's that Bullsmilk? Don't get ya!! Cheers, John
  7. No not me!! Big dry ski slope at Bassingbourn barracks tho! Do you know the place then? Cheers, John.
  8. Yeah, have searched through - it's a bloody good site too! Have fired off a couple of e-mail enquiries for Beretta 686's - see if they are still available! cheers, john.
  9. Wish I had your budget!! I'm looking at spending about £600!! Cheers, John.
  10. Thanks for your help on the other thread Wingshooter! I understand that a troll formerly known as 'guevara' seems to have relaunched himself and latched onto me, but I don't think I'm the least bit strange! thanks anyway! Cheers, John.
  11. find someone else to bug Guevara!
  12. Good looking guns too. I saw a couple in the shop today but didn't try them - should've had a better look! Have you got one? cheers, john.
  13. Thanks Macberran, I think you are probably right - I just need to be patient and get the right 686! the Rizzini I looked at today felt very tight but didn't feel too smoothly machined - I put it down to the fact that the gun had been on the rack for a while and was virtually new! cheers, John.
  14. paranoia or what? Where I work they have effective medication for helpful people like you!
  15. The guy in the shop mentioned franchi but he didn't tell me they were part of the Beretta empire - I will have a look at the Harrier - thanks for that ! cheers, John.
  16. Hi Peeps, New kid on the block here! Joined the forum yesterday and have enjoyed following all the different discussions going on across the spectrum - some of them quite lively - good stuff! Some of you might have read my introductory post in the 'new members' section - I am looking to buy a second-hand O/U 12g. game gun. I saw a good looking Rizzini 28" 1/4 & 1/2 O/U in my local gunshop today but know absolutely nothing about the make. It felt good to hand and mounted nicely but I just don't know......... it's just a name to me!! They want £550 for it - it is in immaculate
  17. Thanks for all the warm welcomes! It looks like I will feel very much at home here and I look forward to be able to make a contribution to the collective knowledge! In the meantime, I am still looking for some help on selecting a new (second-hand!) O/U shotgun - the Beretta I was looking to buy has now gone for more than I could afford but I have tried out a Rizzini - will check out the appropriate forum section and see if there are any opinions on these guns! Once again, cheers for the friendly welcome! John.
  18. Thanks Al! Just been looking around - certainly some lively debate going on in certain sections - good stuff! Cheers, John.
  19. Hello and Happy Easter to you all! My name is John and I am returning to shooting after a break of 20 years or so! I used to do a lot of rough shooting down in Hampshire before career pressures took over but I kept renewing my shotgun certificate in anticipation of one day getting back into the sport. I was invited out roost shooting pigeons the other weekend and have realised how much I have been missing the scene. I was embarassingly rusty in my shooting but thoroughly enjoyed scaring every pigeon that came near! I think I am going to try an O/U gun - have always shot S/S befor
