  1. As said above, really don't think it matters if it makes a mess of Mr fox. I use Sako gamehead 90grain for both. Very good and cheap at £15.91 for 20 Cheers Fastrac10
  2. Just on a point that Hollywood made about the reticle on the second plane. When you get upto the level of money of s+b or nightforce, swarovski, I havn't spoken to anybody with these scopes that have trouble with point of aim moving when changing mag. You will no doubt have trouble with cheaper scopes. As so many people have said on here, buy the best you can afford! Cheers Fastrac10
  3. He was a Roe buck, a good one aswell! He's hung up now, but will soon be on the table! Cheers Fastrac 10
  4. Well after a few nights out stalking I shot my first deer! Have had my Sako 75 .243 for about 3 weeks now and the only thing I have shot at was targets. So tonight was a fine warm night with just a slight breeze. Out came the gun and off to go and sit at the edge of the wood. I made sure I was out early. Deer had been using one of the field margins, there were alot of tracks. I got myself in a good position, one that gave me a good field of view and a good area to take a safe shot. After over an hour and as the light was failing, the buck came into sight. He came down a hedge on my right, th
  5. Sorry just picked this up. Totally agree these mounts are so exspensive, and having a Sako 75 you do not have many options on mounts. On e-bay you can buy Optilock for £53 from Bagnall & Kirkwood Newcastle they trade on e-bay as a1tackleshop, postage is cheap. Sorry if this info is to late, but it might help somebody else. Cheers Fastrac10
  6. Hi There I've got a Sako Quad synthetic which I've had for just over a year. It's a fantastic gun, the only thing is it's a little short in the stock, but the build quality is first class. Also adjust the trigger to minimum pressure. Its very accurate, from a rested position I can put 3 bullets in the size of your thumb nail at 100yards. I use Federal premium v shok. Very pleased I bought it, and wouldn't look at anything else. Get one bought! Cheers Fastrac10
  7. Never had a look down a 4200 bushnell but everyone tells me they are very good. Was on the brink of buying a 6-24x50 before I bought the Sako75. As people have told me its too much scope for the HMR but it has a 30mm tube and you don't have too have it on full mag all the time. Do you buy your scopes from US, if so would quite like to know where from if thats ok. Not many places will ship to UK because of export law. Plus you have to do your sums before you order, credit card charge, delivery, plus import duty. Or find sumeone who is going over there and get them to bring one back!. Is the 65

  9. This is the Police all over, as has already been said, they really don't know what they are doing. It always seems they will take only the easy option everytime. They just make things harder for us good guys!. Was down visiting a friend who lives in Cleveland. They have a bit of trouble with poachers, which is getting worse. He told me the Police have been told not to approach poachers as they might be armed! Well who gave them the licence in the first place? If they won't go near them, how are we supposed to stop them? No wonder you and your keeper are confused! Hope you are able to get this
  10. look though there 4x16x50 one mate of the mtc . i have that on the 22lr and i would have the same for the hmr if i didnt allready have a scope for it. you dont need a massive mag scope for the hmr mate ive got a 6x24x50 but i never go pass 16 on it and most the time stick to 8 to 12 on it. the crosshair on the mtc is very good i find at different ranges on 22lr. and gives confidence i find when shooting i seam to me able to lock on real quick with the mtc crosshair. if not look at the simmon 6.5x20x50 like before you mite not use all the mag range. but at £100 pound it has great field of
  11. As someone has already said try GMK. My local dealer Weldon Gunroom sell the CCI and the federal, which I also think have a bit more go about them. Not very handy for you when you live in Cornwall and they are up in Northumberland! As far as I can gather you do not need FAC to buy these as they do not go down on your ticket. Hope this is a bit of help. Cheers Fastrac 10

  13. Hello all I'm wanting to upgrade my Hawke 3-9x50NE to something vari mag up to 14 or 16x50 . Seems the price of scopes jumps from £130 to £530 to get in the s/b Leupold or Swarorvski. There must be something with good quality optics at a more sensible price. or do I have to bite the bullet and spend the cash. Looked at MTC Viper 6-24x56 but found it wasn't very clear to look through, but did have a fantastic reticle!. Its to go on a Sako Quad .17HMR used for rabbits, crows and pigeons. Small targets at around 150yards. Thanks for the help!
  14. dont no anything about the scope your asking about mate. but a 60mm front is very big and would sit high off the barrel. i wouldnt want my scope sitting this high up in the mounts. as if your cheek piece isnt very high then i think you mite not find it very nice on your face. if i was looking for a scope with high mag i would go for a simmons whitetail 6.5x20x50 you can pick them up for £100 pound and the optics are very good for the money and a wide field of view. i no this as i use to have one on my hmr in till i got a bushnell. but i will put it back on soon as i need the bushnell
  15. Cheers. Spent all week chasing pigeons off rape and trying to work out drop on scope mildots. It was a still day no wind at all. It was a bit of a one off. Most shots are around 150 - 170 yards, but that was one to remember!!
  16. Would like to know if must people would go for a fixed mag to go on a .243 for foxs. Looking at putting a 8x56 scope on, or should I go vari 3-12. Alot of shooters I've spoken to prefer fixed power on a centrefire. There are so many scopes to choose from. I was also told buy the best you can afford.
  17. I have a Sako Quad .17HMR synthetic stock. In my view a real top quality rifle. It's very accurate and great to use. I've heard of the problem of not ejecting live rounds. I've never had a problem with mine, some people have had barrels changed under warranty. Hope this is useful.
  18. I use federal premium v shok 17g. They group very tight and do the business on rabbits, pigeons and crows. Took a pigeon at 305yards, can'nt ask for any better than that!
  19. Will have a look at one, but think it will be one of the two I mentioned. Cheers
  20. It would be so good to have loads of money and buy what we want. The second hand Sako has a better scope on it than the Tikka, so part of the extra is going on that. I keep getting told to spend as much as I can on a scope. Thanks for the advice and I'm pleased your happy with your Tikka.
  21. to ansewer your question the sako 75 will be the gun i would choose, the t3 is good, but not near the build quality of the sako. SAKO Yes I'm thinking of going with second hand Sako but had a good deal offered on a new Tikka T3 stainless. The second hand Sako does have a really good scope on it, so still thinking that's the way to go. Thanks anyway!
  22. Looking at buying a second hand 243 rifle for shooting foxs maybe the odd deer. Not sure to go for a Sako 75 or Tikka T3, both good guns but is the Sako worth paying more for - is it that much better? Thanks
