  1. nice dog...hows it bred...is it a saluki/grey put over a half cross bitch?
  2. a few years ago my mate stat caught a half white fox...then a year later caught another in the same area...never seen one since. must of been related, hey?
  3. the more i think about it the more i think it would not work..... you could not release captive bred wolfs and expect them to know how to hunt red deer...wolf packs arnt just formed, they have been around for generations. as the old ones die young ones are born and taught survival skills and so on. i dont think it would be as simple as driving as cattle wagon up hill side and releasing a doozen wolfs out the back....end of deer problem.
  4. its interesting isnt it... my bro recons the driver seemed pretty genuine and was not bull shiting him.....fooking hell, could you imagine seeing its eyes on the lamp and squeeking that bad boy in...lol
  5. hi all. just asking a question and was wondering if you lot know if its true..... my brother is on holiday in scotland and whilst on a coach trip he commented to the driver about all the deer he could see... the driver said they are becoming a pest in places and in one area they have released wolfs in an atempt to curb there spread.... i carnt see it to be true but thought i'd see what you lot know??
  6. thanks for all the replies....she certainly had a good 20 months....a true joy to work and live with.
  7. thanks mate...i'd appriciate that...
  8. not too sure...i found her 100 yards from where i was stood....i think she hit a dyke because she was only a few feet away from it...
  9. totally devistated.. i lost my jess last night to a freek accident whislt out having a quick mouch...just a little tribute to a great little worker and a even better friend...she was only 20 months but having bred her myself it feels much longer...we've all been there no dought but it never gets any easier..not much more to say really but i thought i would share it..
  10. i start my dogs off on te lamp and i think it only improves them...they get more kills under the belt and makes there strike 100%. the only time i dont lamp them is when the dog is up too a certain level and maybe competing coursing, because lamping is the most demanding type of lurcher work bar none, and it would age a coursing dog too soon and sods law they would take a knock a week before a coursing meet.

  12. a guy called stat had 2 fantastic lamping dogs called fly and cass...these are no longer with us but in there day they caught large numbers of rabbits and hares and were lamped without slip leads...
  13. i personally carnt see te point of this cross myself. in my experence my own dogs past and present could be inproved by many things...hunting ability...stamina....sometimes speed....depending on the quarry been hunted...but never have i said to myself after my dog has missed his quarry; i wish my dog was 20 pounds heavier or having a bigger head. my own saluki cross and prevous lurcher to lurcher dogs have been well matched for most quarry, and are only coming back empty mouthed because they ave been out run...not out powered.
  14. hi all. i went out ferreting doing hedgerows and i think i need to invest in some gate nets to make things a bit easier. just open to sugestions as what to get and what not to get, as ive never actually used them before! Just to add, we had a cracking day bagging 32 rabbits but i felt we covered more ground if i only put down half as many purse nets and used a few gate nets. thanks for any comments.
  15. mine get plenty of raw meat and veg.. i try and feed them as soon after a run as i can, as i find it aids recovery a bit. for example if they have had a hard morning and im home for noon then i would feed them then rather than wait till nighttime. i heard that raw eggs are no good for a dog though, it just passes through them and they gain little from it, better off cooked.
  16. it seems like your not doing enough with your dog mate... at 15 months old it needs to see a lot more than 4 rabbits...its gonna be like a kid at christmas, coz it only comes once every 365 days...there is a big difference between showing you dog plenty of game and over facing them though so be careful... you really want to be out 2/3 times a week giving it 5/6 runs a time...that way your dog wont get so excited and f**k up as much...hope that helps..cheers.
  17. im out tonight...to much cloud to even see the moon.....should be a good un
  18. it would be very hard to notice a difference by using these products unless the previous diet was complete crap....but i find it helps if your feeding a lot of raw meat and lacking in some vitimines.....and for me its is more convienent than having to add raw blended veg every day..
  19. i new of 2 pups out of the same litter who both snapped there front legs, before they was 2 years old......could it be that bad diet as a pup contributed to this,,and maybe once the damage has been done(bad diet) no amount of calicum from the new owner can rectify it??
  20. if mine has had a hard night with a few knocks and bumps my sleeps in the porta mag on no. 2 till the morning......after they have been fed..
  21. the irish do park coursing which as a lot more emphise on the run up.....this leads to much larger and more powerfull type of dogs...dont know how they would differ for lurcher breeding though.
  22. would be hard to see the parents run.......most people dont own the sire.....and the dam, well would be ok for nothing more tnan a walk..
  23. i like a dog with stamina, coz its offen hard to get a close slip and tne the dog offen has a bit of running to do before it makes contact..
  24. i use feramo greyhound multi vit powder. made by vet search and sold by greyhound mega store.
