  1. Well look at this way....Say you had a top class dog like barny for example and you and your mates have never had a dog like it. Then he dies suddenly and you never had chance to breed him to your top bitch....but your parents owned his brother, bengi, for example..but he was purly a pet and has never even seen a rabbit. would you use him as the next best thing, as the bloodline is identical. A non worker is different to a failed worker dont you think?
  2. Sorry...i dont know my self so i carnt help you..its on my list of things to learn.lol
  3. Well done there...that first rabbit is a great feeling no matter how many dogs you have had. Post some pics up of your dog and lets take a look.
  4. Ive mated my jill to a 1/2 cross european polecat. they seem to be a bit more powerful and do work a bit faster. The ones ive worked with are very good and if and when you dig down to them, the rabbit is nearly always dead. they also love rats too. And like all ferrets, if you handle them well then there will be no problems.
  5. Common knowledge mate that a dog will attract the attention of cattle - chance are if you didnt have the dog you wouldnt have had any bother at all. Unless you are 100% competent with livestock I wouldnt go in a field with them - especially not with a dog. FTB
  6. I dont really like the idea of someone else training a dog.. they will obey them but its you who is working the dog, not him. You are better of trying yourself and if you take the right approach you will be supprised at what results you can achieve.
  7. My dog saved me from some pissed off cows one night. Whilst lamping tha cows got spooked and charged me and my mate. we had our backs to a barb wire fence and they butted me and my mate..with this my dog came steaming in guns a blazing, making the cows back off just enough to scramble the fence! to say i crapped my self would be an under statement....A week later headlines of local paper reported an old chap tramppled to death by cows walking his dog..not too many miles from where we was..
  8. Any pictures of barny or benji then lads.. Curious to see them.
  9. my ferrets work rats and i mop them up with the lurchers. Some ferrets are not interested though and if they dont wanna go you carnt make them. Its good sport in my opinion, not the massive bags like with a smoker, but if you have got a few holes round a feeder or chicken pen its a good way of sorting the rats out. the ferrets i use are bred to european polecats and love the ratting game.
  10. if its an egg size fluid lump on the joint it can be caused by the dog laying on hard surfaces. it happened to one of mine when she used to lay on the concrete patio. A good soft bed might cure it and i dont mean a piece of carpet. Hope this helps.
  11. strong looking dogs. are they a first x. if so what way round are they bred?
  12. ok lads. thanks for the replies.
  13. hi all. I am after some day old chicks as ferret food but dont know where to get them from? what do other members do for their chicks. Was thinking about approching a chicken farm and seeing what they say. Also, are they ones that have been still born/died naturally or have they been culled? Any info appriciated.

  15. cheers lads. if i put a seperate sleeping box in would they have them together or go to seperate boxs?
  16. is it ok to breed 2 jills in the same run/hutch at the same time. they would be mated at the same time so the kits would be born around the same time and be of similar age. has anyone done this and would the jills accept another ferret around there kits?
  17. apart from the birth of your children nothing can better a good rat hunt!...lol! from his loving GF

  18. is it me or do them hares look different to the ones on the fens...there coats look more like a rabbits...our hares look a lot courser..
  19. whilst walking the dogs this morning i stumbled upon a munty buck standing in a neighbours garden, probally only 50 yards away from me. he was barking repetidly for about 2 minutes and its the first time ive ever seen them do this.. has any other viewers seen this and is it a mating call?
