  1. This is the problem with keeping working lurchers, especially coursing dogs. They have such a small working window. My old dog is 10, and my working dog is 3. In 3 years time he will be 6 and I would be looking at a pup to take over. The 10 year old would be 13 and could still be fit and well, so I'd have 3 dogs then, 2 of which would be retired! I think my next dog will be a mouching dog, that dosnt rely on speed and would have a longer working life, more like a gun dog.
  2. South south, yours arnt really a beddy cross are they, probally an 1/8 at most but more like a 1/16 beddy.
  3. So you had to read on here, to walk the dog in the morning too?? Poor dog
  4. And to the comment about protein in summer, I think you need to read up a bit more. Protein only builds muscle if its broke down through exersize. Running definatly breaks down the muscle so protein is needed after a run, not during the summer rest period.
  5. I'm with hot meat on this one, a shit diet might hinder growth, but a good diet won't make them grow bigger.
  6. If you take a rifle then your suppose to inform the police but its a ball ache! You'll be in the phone for a while. They want all your details, you gun details, the car details, the land details, who's going with you and then you've got to call them when you get home!!
  7. Mine have complete mixed with a pound of tripe or minced lamb/beef. In the winter they have hare and rabbit every other day. They don't have this in the summer as I don't catch/shoot in the summer.
  8. People are missing the point. My point was your wasting your time advertising on a working dog forum when most people have their own old retired lurchers. Think about it hey.
  9. Is it walked in the morning too, if not that's 23 hour lock down!
  10. Look in the sale section. Deer/ grey x GSP. Probally won't be the fastest but should hunt and retrieve as good as any other. And he has bitches.
  11. Likewise. If the parents are grafters, these pups should hunt for fun
  12. Ok then. If he re homes her to someone on here I'll stand corrected. Till then, give your head a shake
  13. This is a hunting site. Why would anyone want someone else's dog that is retired when they probally have there own?
  14. My old saluki dog is very dominant and won't back down from any dog. He hates staffs and bull Xs too. Very gentle to people but a killer if another dog challenges him. My younger saluki x is the opposite but he has less saluki in him.
  15. French bull dog. Quiet and clean, and you can breed a litter and make a few quid.
  16. You'll be grey before your 30 with all that worry!! Take a chill pill and just get on with it
  17. Infered heat lamp on a thermostat
  18. That's a cracking web site! Those dogs look pretty impressive
  19. For me, deerhound x the easiest and saluki x the hardest to live with. They whine, dig, chew and are a fooking pain in the arse as pets, but out in the field it all becomes worth while.
  20. Coursing dogs will show signs of ageing sooner than rabbit dogs, but that's because a hare takes some stopping. At dog at 6/7 years old would be its last hard season on the long ears
  21. Stay clear lads. Those organised gangs of criminal coursers look a dangerous lot
  22. I've got a saluki bull greyhound you can use mate. There's no whippet in him but he's pretty quick! And even though there is no collie in him, he loves sheep.
