  1. There were both brother and sister. Sadly he died from a rat bite. There were from a bitch from the original breeding, mated to greyhound/whippet type dog.
  2. I’m 40 so 80’s and 90’s. My parents moved to the country from Manchester when I was 4. They got chickens, goats and a cow..oh and a couple of lurcher pups. Just pets really but I used to let them chase hares and rabbits. I then begged for a pup and they finally let me have one out of there last litter. (Top picture). I was about 10 then. I’ve had Lurcher’s ever since. Got my first ferret a year later and just went on from there. Stat (Stainton) had a couple of pups from the same parents, Fly and Cass.
  3. The 3 in the first picture (mum, dad and daughter) had a real knack and love for taking feather. I thought it was pretty normal as a kid and that all dogs did it, but I’ve never had any since and my old saluki cross has never caught a bird in his life, and he lived to 14 years old.
  4. Not bred as coursing dogs, but caught plenty of hares. I suppose when that’s the main quarry on the land, they learn how to hunt and kill them. Plus they get very fit whilst trying .
  5. Here’s some old pictures of some dogs I’ve had when I was younger.
  6. No offence taken. This is a linx course so it probably has more scrub land and rough areas than it does greens and fairways. We surrounded the holes with long nets so there wasn’t much chance of any long runs on the rabbits. My dog is just over 12 months old, so hopefully this season will see her catching a few rabbits and stuff. Fingers crossed
  7. She’s a coursing dog, but she’s not mine. Mind is the beddy/whippet. When I say golf course, it was in the scrub land along the course. The young pup wasn’t chasing bolters, they were netted
  8. She’s only 4 months old. She was too hot, and as the holes are in pure sand, she kept laying in the large entrances to keep cool. The weather forecast rain so we were hoping the golf course would be empty, but the rain never came so we didn’t get much done, just getting the young dogs out really.
  9. Took the young dogs out ferreting today. To bloody hot and not many to ground, but it gets them used to the nets and the stinkers.
  10. That bottom picture looks a strong one for a beddy whippet. Have you got any over pictures of it?
  11. The east of England lurcher club stopped doing the show probably over 10 years ago. I think it then was organised by lurcher link. I’ve not been for years but I’ve not seen it advertised for a long time, so I thinks it’s folded.
  12. Why would you breed a litter you know nothing about??
  13. Hi, for the up coming season, I looking for a day out ferreting in the dales. Looking for a good day on the moors with decent numbers, ideally where I can bring my dog too. In exchange I can offer a days terrier work in Lincolnshire. All on permission with plenty of sets, mainly woodland to go at. Please no idiots or chavs . It’s a bit of a long shot, but you never know. Rabbits are in low numbers on my permission over the last few years, Hense the reason for this post.
  14. What’s the brown dog? Looks a nice sort?
  15. I live near Skegness so I hunt around Boston and Louth.
  16. My mate had a lab which was the best hunting dog I’ve ever seen. It was relentless in persuit of game. I think to get the best out of them in a lurcher thought they would need many generations of breeding the best to the best. Just like we’ve done with coursing dogs. All the best coursing dogs I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a few living on the the fens, have all been bred coursing dog to coursing dog, not F1 first crosses. I think if this approach was applied to lab crosses in 15/20 years time, there could be some really good dogs about.
  17. Love the stamp of the dam especially. Not much to say it terms of advice, except find a quiet suitable place for her to welp, and give her and the pups plenty of decent grub, worm regular etc, all pretty standard stuff
  18. I’ve been in the Yorkshire dales this weekend. I’ve seen a few rabbits, but I’ve seen plenty of old carcasses and bones all over. Don’t know if it’s much or VHD
  19. My mate shot a fox in the first weekend of December that was heavily pregnant. I’m not sure how long there pregnant for, but they would have been born before Xmas I’d say.
  20. Do you think it effects how they turn out, if you use a beddy bitch or the whippet bitch, regarding coat, size etc?
  21. Was it a 3/4 bull or 1/4 bull? And was it Lancashire or Lincolnshire?
  22. I use shredded wax paper and heat lamp wired through a room stat. After a hard nights lamping they recover much quicker with a heat lamp.
  23. 100 hares is a poor day on some shoots. 300 is common on some days near me
  24. Join a running club. That will improve your running if you need to ask on here.
  25. The press tell you what the police tell them. They will be looking close to home that's for sure, but we won't hear anything till an arrest is made. A bit like that girl hidden in the bed the other year.
