  1. Ask Turk. He done loads of lamping as most of us have but he lamps his bird to.
  2. Pre *** I would have used Lightforce Striker for rabbits and as a general all round lamp whilst the bltz comes into its own on large fields and hares and bigger things. Wont go wrong [bANNED TEXT] a striker. 17AH is more than adequate fo a ful nights lamping, max u need to go really, chuck it in a cheap rucksack. Definetly use a red filter as well, get up close and whip it off. Works on rabbits that have been run before and other things. Litz in Newport South Wales been cheapest for both lamps for a while (including off the internet)Good luck.
  3. Yes it does feather a bit. Day before he caught a bunny where you can see him standing, comeing along nicely Brock.
  4. That was in January, never got ne warmer than -25 deg C. Just outside Winnipeg in Manitoba alongside the Red river. Place called Selkirk.Dogs didnt like a walk if it was any colder. Upside was dog shit froze in just over 4 minutes. I could then use a snow blower to send it over the next door neighbours plot who was a miserable ~##\##. You should have seen his garden in spring
  5. Heres the sister to yours and Brocks http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/1031/dogs...040small9vu.jpg
  6. Nice bitch. Ill dig out a pic of her sister I lost in Canada here after and let you have a look. If shes as good as Brocks bitch then shes a pleasure to watch.
  7. Yeah your right, I fancy hes longer though. Stands at 29" and is approx 32kg, havent weighed him lately. I agree thats why I went back to Max for a second. Had the sister to Brocks bitch that I had the dog pup out of. She was something else. Lost her young though. Her and my old bitch used to have great fun coursing Jack Rabbits in Canada and white tailed deer.
  8. Brother to Brocks pup. Sister to Maxhardcores. Bella plus my Nuttal Pat My old bitch, still going well ! But unfit !
  9. get one of the bitch pup put up brock, i will ask nobby if he will take some of mine to put up. Will get Cruz up on weekend if possible Brock though I fancy hes bigger than his brother in the pic.
  10. Thats fair enough and as long as your happy with your dog thats all that counts. Seen a Staghound in Manitoba and though it was o.k wasnt anything to write home about, though that was that dog. As for bigger stuff the saluki crosses will take white tails. My Moyles Capatain cross was 29" to the shoulder and she was big enough for the ones I saw and run. Not sure about the coyotes as didnt let her have a go at the only one I came across as not sure what the lay of the land was regarding taking them at the time and there were a family not far away. Those Jacks are good fun though!!! Good
  11. Stick to the Saluki crosses, run Jacks just as well and don't get cut up. Plus got more stamina than the stags and when you can see the back end of your dog through binoculars still going you cant go wrong!!!!!
  12. Removed as requested My mate sent me these pics. Taken in the UK recently. (not the escaped ones!) A friend of his was out doing a spot of lamping and spotted what he thought were roe in a bit of cover, so he slipped a bull x and another dog on them. He soon realised that they were wild boar. The one dog latched onto a huge adult and got dragged straight into cover only to be found dazed about 20 minutes later in the woods. Whilst the bull cross went in on one of the smaller of the three. However the adult took offence to that and charged and tossed him a couple of times. The bull x
  13. Like Millet said, use another dog with the bitch. My mate had one similar but then progressed to picking up (having run with another dog). The next thing it did was retreive let go, retreive and let go etc. Ran with another dog for a couple of nights more and seemed to do the trick. Have you tried gutting the rabbit in front of her and feeding some choice bits as this may help, together with some of the other sound advice. Persevere, it will pay off usually though it can be very frustrating.
  14. My mate had been on earlier saying that I had talked rubbish about not bothering to go out because of the hard frost coming down earlier last night and tonight. He said lots went out and had a good night, but looking at the posts, saw young lampers been replying to some old ones. Can you back me up here guys or do you think it has no affect like my mate. Experience and a lot of poor nights have taught me other. Though I will say it seems to put off long ears far less than the old bunnies.
  15. I have two stories to tell that come to mind. The first being not myself but my lamping partner. He was on a farm early hours when after him and another friend had got over a fence into a new field he heard a bump-bump-bump-bump of multiple animals running towards them. In panic the lamp was flicked on and they were confronted with a herd of angry ostriches at full tilt running towards them. Dogs were let loose, fence was dived for and they ended up in a pile in the field they had just come from. The second one was in the same area but I was there as well. We had just lamped a field w
  16. All I can say is that she has Royston. She always has done it that way and took 14 combined single/dual roe 1st season and 25 roe, 2 fallow 2nd season. both fallow being single. Dont get me wrong as their tumbling shes straight on them and the one that butted her took some pulling.
  17. Yes, a dog can single handed even though it has to be a decent size dog, though its more about technique. If the dog prefers a throat/body hold then the dog must be a fair size. However, mu 26" bitch has taken a couple but goes for the legs. Not the best take down hold I admit as its fraught with danger to the dog itself from injury. But once down she would slip her hold and pin it by the throat. Bucks will turn on the dog though and one butted her off twice before a take down took place.
  18. Seen one work couple of years ago, come out with us a couple of times. Not a big dog about 22" but a game little bitch. Would fly into anything. O.k on rabbits and would catch the odd hare given the right terrain and conditions.
  19. You've obviously got an idea of what sort of dog you want as you should have done your homework by now (reading up etc). Everyone has their favorites as you can tell by the response (mines a saluki cross!)and its a real lottery what you end up with. Saying that you can improve your chances by ensuring that you stick to proven lines with knowledge that the parents of the would be pup are proven reliable dogs. Ask to see them going if possible. If your happy buy one. Good luck!
  20. Before we continue don't get me wrong, I totally disagree with giving dogs steroids for the reason of improving their performance. If a dog is good and is fit then appreciate it for what it really is. As to whether steroids are a performance enhancer then ask 'Ben Johnson' !!!! The ground was similar all three times cereal fields with new growth lots of clay 'clingy' if you know what I mean, I know, I had been there in between two of the occassions. It was November time and both dogs had been out 'reportedly' Robbie, and two bitches on two different occassions performing similarly, 'a
  21. I would like to think so until speaking to a friend of mine some while ago. He said he'd been out with a couple of guys, one of which had two bitches. Both ran quite poorly on the old big ears, but he thought oh well, all dogs have their off days. Second time out with the same pair of bitches, much the same and the guy who owned them threatened all sorts with regards to them staying in his possession. However, on a third occassion both bitches were awesome, the one taking 5 out of 5 and you'd have matched her to any dog in the country. Later, through another source we found out the guy ha
