  3. the mastiff is a part time worker / running dog of sorts. yes he has seen work in the past but not a lot, but a few outings here and there, he has some jowls and they tend to get caught up at the very wrong moment so the mrs put the clampers on what i had him doing. there is other people on here who have mastiffs working as well mate, and retrieving to hand! mine is Alano espanol x rustic neapolitan but there is pure breed bullmastiffs that work on here to.
  4. Hi all, A while ago i had a thread on here about convincing the Mrs aboout another dog....well she is convinced! cut a long story short we are moving to a house which has more than enough land to cope with 1 extra K9. This will be my first lurcher! i have a working mastiff at the moment, i shoot a lot, and go ferreting as well, so the dog will have to be broken to the ferrets at an early age / and maybe the gun later on I will mainly use him for rabbits, and any larger arguments there is always the mastiff for following up. I have a couple of questions: what should i get as

  16. About 18 months ago my mate Jules was a Vegetarian - this is no wind up! He had been for 27 years...since birth! Anyway he always said that if he ate meat then he would kill it, cook it, eat it himself...we weren’t so sure! After making such a life changing decision to eat meat, I posed the question about coming and doing a bit of shooting with me, he has been coming along nicely shooting rabbits etc, but due to work commitments and family issue's he hasn’t been out lately and those Charlie's have always avoided him, we would see them but they wouldn’t come in to the call blah blah...y
  17. lietome - stunning dogs mate! absolute corkers!
  18. lietome - your right mate it is a type, but there are still rustic breeds which resemble the orginal style alaunts better than the modern iterpretaion of them. whether they look more athletic or not is purely down to is cross breeding I'm not knocking the modren version at all - in fact they are probably better / healthier etc ...and i have a modern alaunt! so i defo not knocking them! luchermania - a good point, well made! haha they do look a bit funny! whin - agreed mate these dogs are awesome and unfortunately mainly wasted in this country .....maybe we should all move to the
  19. TOPPER - i don't really think we can talk "facts" here as the "real" alaunts don't exist today from the original lines - they are modern takes on what an alaunt once was - if you see the old drawings of alaunt they don't really look like todays dogs! not trying to start a ruck but but here isa few i found on google: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://bull-and-terrier.de/alaunt.jpg&imgrefurl=http://bull-and-terrier.de/bullen.htm&h=190&w=296&sz=12&tbnid=XHkgkkPz9I7KlM:&tbnh=74&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dalaunt&hl=en&usg=__ubGpY7K-BIqFGfaPX4q

  21. some info on Alaunt - according to Plummer! : http://www.thebritishalauntsociety.moonfruit.com/#/the-alaunt-by-dbp/4516413175 Alaunt dogs are generaly mastiff type dogs other wise known as "molosser" the only type that i know of that you could really call alaunt, that hasn't been cross bred to look like the rustic reall life dogs is the alano espanol or spanish mastiff - extremely rare and mainly used on boar on northern spain. here is a guy that i know that has some amazing spanish lines - but beware contacting him! he doesnt sufffer fools or questions easily! and he won't let an
  22. there was virtually nothing over winter in cornwall, all y mates found that same problem.... then is just exploed almost over night. this is 2 laps of about 12 acres the other evening......
  23. i wouldnt have though that your age has anything to do with what caliber you wil get granted to be honest. i have a 6.5x55 great for both, with 140g soft point ammo the .243 can be a wee bit small on big reds in my opinion.
