  1. Hello boys and girls, Just thought I would start a thread for those people out there that have had running dogs for years, you can show off your dogs that maybe gone but not forgotten . Doesn’t matter if your dogs were used for rabbits or roe lets see them. But please state all pre ban pics are what you say they are! I am interested if old dogs look much different to "modern" day lurchers etc i would love to see any pics of people / grand parents working their dogs pre world war 2 Happy Hunting langouroux
  2. nice post that mate. my friend and I recently had the same issues with collars, i recetnyl put a post up in the ferreting section, and i was suprised about the amount of people that dont use any sort of collar at all! not even a bell!

  5. thinking about ordering one of these, does anyone own or rate them? http://www.accucover.com/ this bloke has given a it greast review! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReJw6qZu-QU
  6. halty lad: i think you have hit ther nail on the head. its all about personal preference. what you like the look of, and if it suits the individual needs. one thing that no one has mentioned is that mastiffs are very very chilled out dogs at home, and are placid by nature, maybe this along with bite power was a desireable quality to have in a dog all those years ago when alaunts were more common.
  7. there has always been 2 types of alaunt...the running quicker type and the thicer sets dogs that will run but are best at holding. although bull lurchers are a different kettle of fish IMO
  8. excelent thread ned. i'm loving the ozzie slang as well, I spent 10 months out there unfortunately i got let down on a pig hunting trip. but the surf was amazing! lovely dogs as well mate.
  9. This is probably the moist sound piece of advice I have seen on these pages for a long time! Although I don't own true running dogs, I currently have x2 rescue dogs that are both little corkers. my alano x I had from 12 weeks old and everything he knows is what I have taught him, so if he turned out to be sh*t its on my shoulders. The fact of the matter is, the dog doesn’t have to come from a working back round if he has the will and drive to please his handler, but for you running dog men a proven background is always a bonus, and if you have a line / cross / breed you like….if it ain
  10. linford looks like a sreal stunner! with regards to ferreting - I use my alaunt when i'm netting, he marks the holes, and obviously always gets to the net before we can to make sure the rabbit doesn't escape. he has a god nose on him!
  11. exactly as anubis says. her si some info abaout the spanish alaunt / alano espanol: http://www.fiapbt.net/alaunt.html
  12. it depends on your definition of the aluant gentile really. as the alano espanol is still alive and very much kicking...or should that be bititng! they are not a cross breed or a re-creation! This dog hasn'tchanged for hundred of years and there is only a a handfull left in the world that is known about. see below: http://www.ambasorejas.com/ this is "potstillgold" website from THL
  13. its about what sort of dog you like mate, i have an alaunt and i prefer the look of them, not everyone wants the same thing. alos a lot of heavier breeds / alaunts are more capable than people think they are.
  14. captain sparrow - do you know what sort of breeding he has?
  15. Hello boys and girls, To cut a long story short...I cant hit sweet FA with a shotgun! Mainly because I have always shot rifles and I habit of pointing and aiming and not swinging through! I have a 12G Baikal which has had less than 500 Cart's through it, and I want to swap to a semi auto, mainly because I will then have 1 trigger, 1 barrel, less recoil and hopefully more chance of actually hitting the odd pigeon for my supper! Does anyone know if this gun is any good? http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/101027122956302 Or should I just go for a second hand Beretta for
