  1. .22LR for fox....dam right! if your out with your .22LR when your bunny bashing and charlie steps out your not exactly going to let him go especially when its coming up to lambing season! a quick way to loose ground me thinks! its obvosuly not a foxing caliber - but for the "opportunistic fox" I need it on my licence so that i dont brake the law.
  2. Hi there boys and girls thought i would let you all know about my recent experience of devon / cornwall constabulary... I got my FAC about 18 months ago i had been shooting air rifles for ages but decided to take the plunge. i was learning to stalk with a accredited witness so he helped me out with getting it granted in the first place with a polite letter to speed up my initial application. since then i have been doing a fair bit of my own training - attendig a NVQ level 2 in game and wildlife management as well as completing my DMQ level 1. I have picked up alot of ground recentl

  10. shot two rabbits a a few times and a mate has done 3. but not foxes....well done mate! thats one to tell the grand kids!
  11. mice one sling shot that is nice and simple i'll give them a try.
  12. done a early morning drive from cornwall to swindon at the weekend...none of the usual spots in cornwall had anything showing but as soon as i got into devon and somerset they were out and about in the middle of fields. that said a friend of mine has deer showing all over the place in north cornwall.
  13. all the AW's i know all charge per outing and do all the stalks......pain in the arse if you dont shoot anything!
  14. well done mate, you shold have got apic and put it up for us to see. keep at it.
  15. nice write up jigsaw......when you butcher them / eat them if the meat is tough soak it in buttermilk for 3 days and it will be tender like lamb!
  16. This is what Eley says: http://www.championshooters.com/Eley3.html Eley HV hollow points have probably killed more rabbits in this country than most ammo. cheerd mate! i'm a bt slow on the uptake some times!
  17. im getting mreo confused as thr link goes on! haha so supersnics are good....but not if your trying to shoot them to far? and not out of a short barrel? so 100 to 120 yards in my CZ 452 should be fine?
  18. cheers colster some good info there, think i am oing to have to try some of these as i have just got some ground which is very open and i am strugling with te longer distance rabbits with the subsonic. so yo ulike the cci then? i didnt like the subsonic personally as it didnt like loading for some reason but im keen to test a box of them out.
  19. reading aother thread i realised that i have never used supersonic ammo in my .22LR !! in fact i have never even shot .22 supersonic at all! I heard that it wont group well, blah blah. does any run supersonic ammo? if so what do they zero at etc? cheers boys and girls.
  20. That's another very good point in favour of LR, you have the flexibility to use different ammo, subs for when you need to be quiet, Supersonics (Stingers etc) for when you can trade a bit less silence for a bit more punch (up to HMR levels), if only the low speed subs could be more consistent. CB Longs are fine in mine at say 40 yards (possibly filling a FAC Air role) as long as it's a warm day, cold ammo goes all over the place. i thought supersonic ammo for the .22lr were unstable and didnt group very well?
  21. totally agree! .22LR is spot on for rabbits and as you say opportunistic fox. I have dropped fox's at 75 yards with my .22lr but wouldn't like to make a habit of it. the problem with the .17HMR is noise and expense....but mainly anything stonger than a light breeze and your screwed! if it was me personally i would buy a second hand .22LR and put a trigger kit in it if it didnt already have one. I bought a CZ 452 .22LR spanking new and i love it.......but if i was to turn back the clock i would buy one second hand and then save the money to go towards a stalking rifle. ps: i go
