  1. out again with minnie and this time i had tess with me. the wind and rain made sure we were soon soaking wet.thankfully it dosent seem to affect the dogs much and they caught a few rabbits.after taking the photo the dogs caught another four in the set-aside near to where the car was parked up.i was too wet to bother taking another pic
  2. thanks duckwing not sure about the rommel blood. i like the colouring and have chosen that marking with the three gwp crosses ive owned.i guess its more noticable on him with him being smooth coated.
  3. cheers dave, dont go killing those rats without me. see you soon mate.
  4. yeah rocky4 id like a walk out when your next up here.
  5. ive got an 8 month old gwp here which is starting to hunt cover and has killed a few rats.i just want him as general bushing/vermin dog. i expect to have alot of fun with him soon and ill use him more as a hound than a gundog.infact with his undocked tail and with him being allowed to give chase and bay at his quarry or scent he is just like a hound. i like the gwp, either pure or as a lurcher cross.
  6. cheers dave and thanks for the invite out yesterday.i really enjoyed it and it was good to see Fudge has settled in and is hunting well with the other dogs.we should have some fun on that farm when the cover comes down today i was invited back out for a spot of rabbiting.Tess was a bit stiff from yesterday so i took Vandal with me and my mate had Minnie. for much of the time my dog was running around like an idiot following minnie about and on several occassions when minnie found a rabbit and stopped still ready to take the rabbit where it sat vandal rushed in and the rabbits escaped.oth
  7. cheers lads, the dogs are pretty fit but i think it has alot to do with the dogs desire to just keep hunting, and a good nose helps. i guess on land with lots of cover if it cant find it,it cant catch it because theres no-way am i fit enough to go running around flushing stuff out for the dog to course
  8. this morning i had a look out with tess my six year old lurcher and my mate had minnie. it was a cold start and whilst the dogs were busy hunting good scent the rabbits didnt seem to be there or at least they werent sitting tight and were moving through the reeds ahead of the dogs and not giving them much chance to make a catch. much of the land we walked over was steep hillside covered in reed and tall grass which makes it hard for the dogs to course and catch on.rabbits running downhill arent the easiest to take never mind with plenty of cover to protect them. anyway the dogs never stoppe
  9. well done im jealous mate.
  10. cant remember the thread mate but click on my name and go through my previous posts. i also have an eight month old pure gwp here which loves his hunting.im using him for bushing and ive had a few rats with him.i wanted something that could hunt well and that would take to ratting but didnt want another terrier.he is undocked and hunts head down sometimes baying like a hound. i think its great.
  11. a few more rabbits yesterday afternoon.it took a while to start finding rabbits but dougie and minnie didnt stop searching. i was pleased to see my young lurcher hunting and finding rabbits plus catching a few.
  12. ive seen lads fishing from kayaks in hawaii and the canary islands but didnt find time to have a go myself, something i regret.maybe next year.
  13. thanks dave,i was a bit tired whilst walking around with you
  14. cheers dave,it was good to get out bushing with you again the other night.all your dogs are looking well.it should be fun watching fudge and my gwp as they grow up.
  15. it was authorised mate the lad who deals with holidays even helped to skin and gut that lot into dog food today.
  16. Today i spent a few hours rabbiting with warren and a mate of ours. Warrens young Jeff Burrell bred Tumbler did very well finding rabbits in the reedbeds and taking them straight from the seat plus coursing and catching with a good strike Good dogs,Great company...........life dosent get much better than this.
  17. im unsure what makes a good working plummer, same as any other type i suppose. what i will say is that i spent some of my happiest days hunting with plummer terriers.as a teenager starting out i think they were the ideal dogs for me.
  18. my six year old lurcher bitch broke her neck at a year old.the vet laid out the options but the only one for us seemed to be to put the bitch in a neck brace and hope for the best.i had her x-rayed and when it was put up onto the board the vet said "we should be looking at a dead dog" the two vertebrae were clearly out of place. i was told that i could come home oneday to find her dead or paralized as the healing bone could thicken and crush the nerve or whatever. i was advised that the best outcome would be that she would live but would never work again and wouldnt have full movement.t
  19. good luck with the young dog, see you soon mate
  20. a pic from last thursday if anybody didnt see it
