I do a fair bit of air-rifle shooting mostly on rats but dont consider myself a serious airgunner. Id been asked to try and clear some of the rabbits from a large field used for grazing a few ponies.I think they had ferreting in mind but im not very keen on ferreting with nets and anyway crawling around in hedgerows getting nettled isnt my idea of fun.As it turned out id been given a tin of air-arms pellets off a mate and after spending a few minutes checking zero on friday ive been going over there every night and shooting between two and four rabbits before our pony is brought into the stabl

ive sent you a pm. i like the cross,it suits me for what i do..................i might be the best known on the internet for using this type of lurcher but thats because i have no life and spend too much time online there are lads i know who have kept them for far longer than me and have taken far more stuff with them.im still learning

This morning i had a look out with a mate on land where we hadnt visited for a year. Its in a lovely spot with a river at the bottom on the bankside and acres of rushes and some grass fields.I dont think you could go rabbiting in much better scenery but the rabbits were very scarce today. The dogs had to work hard to cover a large amount of ground, the area was boggy and the dogs were getting covered im mud as they hunted away.I dont think ive ever walked as far as this in any dales area of northern england and seen so few rabbits. It was still an enjoyable trip out though, its nice to get good b

interesting thread so keep putting up accounts of your hunting days old dog.cheers.

some rats live in places where they cannot be caught with dogs so im happy to shoot them. id rather take them with a dog but i quite enjoy air-rifle shooting.if im out excercising the dogs around a farm at night i sometimes take the gun along to shoot any that are sat on beams or poking their heads out of holes.they usually drop for the dog underneath.i believe that the dog dosent know its dead as it runs in so still gets to enjoy the trip out. its one thing to go out with terriers where old bales or rubbish is being lifted or digging them out around release pens etc but its a bit harder to

good thread old dog,i was out with dave c watching hounds yesterday.had a good afternoon id happily pay £2000 a year to to be able to work terriers with hounds regularly especially back in the old days when a lurcher could be used aswell. it costs me more than that a year to work the lurcher. keep posting updates old dog

This morning i was invited out onto new land to do a spot of rabbiting with Tess alongside Minnie and a young saluki cross. Its been cold this week so i wrapped up warm but it wasnt too cold at the venue although there was a hard frost covering much of the land.We got to see some good hunting and coursing from the dogs which had to search hard to find rabbits. Some of the rabbits were sat very tight in the reeds and on several occasions i saw the dog go in to pick up the rabbit only to come out the other side empty mouthed,as we all know they can be well hidden from view and can take some findin

Id been hearing about the cod being caught so after work on friday i drove to the coast to have a bash at trying to catch one.The sea was flat which made a change from last time when the waves were crashing over us.Sadly the cod didnt show for anybody and we ran out of bait at 1.00am.All id caught from eight hours fishing were five flatties and five whitey. Yesterday i took the pointer out over the stubble fields and hedgerows for an hour but there wasnt much about. As we got to last bit of cover Alfie scenting the air and a few yards further he stopped and turned.i wouldnt say he gives a go

I havent posted for a while but ive been doing a bit. we had a look out this morning with tess and minnie again.the wind was blowing and we are starting to get some colder weather.the rain wasnt heavy but constant, the sort that gets you wet through. not to worry though like many i like the more wintery conditions. minnie was on form and caught most of the rabbits and also caught a nice pheasant.tess went ok and both dogs had to search for these rabbits, large tracts of land didnt seem to hold much or the rabbits were able to get to ground quickly. not the biggest bag of bunnies but a

welcome, ive been to oahu, hawaii twice. the first time i couldnt go hunting pigs as you had just had all that rain with the landslides(2006).i did get to have a walk out with a lad and his fox terrier.we didnt see anything but the terrier was used for hunting mongoose. in may this year i went back and got my first wild pig.those steep rainforests are the most physically demanding terrain ive ever hunted over.the lads i went out with do that two or three times a week,i have alot of respect for them and their dogs. i also went fishing and got a shark plus some good snappers.

I took the dogs bushing earlier for a couple of hours, the area shows no sign of rabbit but the pointer pup found a few pheasants in the wood and i was pleased to see him go into the middle of a field scenting the air and put up a few partridges. They didnt catch anything but im not bothered about that, just to see my GWP using his nose and finding stuff is enough. i used to hunt terriers over these places but with so many occupied earths in the area it would be madness to do it now.Thats why i got myself a pointer instead of another terrier. He is also learning the ratting game so im confident i
