  1. I'll cage him up next time, still don't know what upset him that day he's been in with loads of dogs over the years. Thinking about it my pointer and hawk have had a few serious injuries as well.

I'm slowly getting mine used to my mates Sprocker to help out in the places with thicker cover.
  3. I sometimes miss working terriers and lurchers but I don't miss the injuries.
  4. That must be good to see mate, sounds great.

Cheers mate, I'm enjoying this season so far even if the cover is still too high and it's far too warm.

Had a couple of rabbits this week and a few exciting but unsuccessful flights at squirrel. She's also had another phessie and a moorhen.

    New Season

Had a mixed week due to the weather and making my hawk go out with my mates sprocker. She ignored a half dead mixi rabbit in the strange dogs company....... Tonight she followed my young pointer perfectly before slamming into a pidgeon which was roosting in a tree. She can infuriate me but every now and then she catches something lol
  9. Lol You know something I've "wasted" my life first with Plummer terriers, then GWP bred lurchers, then three years all over Britain and Ireland with 60 packs of Hounds before finally flying a Hawk for the last three seasons. Added to the 107 species of fish I've caught I have few regrets and I wouldn't change any it. I've been lucky enough to dig, work lurchers and and walk out with hounds with some of the best hunting men there are. I've met and hunted with some of the legends. I've enjoyed it all. ..............but I won't be happy until i've flown a Goshawk.
  10. Don't be, I built up an incredible amount of debt in a ten year period doing all sorts of stuff. Ten years later I'm still paying it off and have feck all lol.
  11. Yeah not taking up fishing earlier is a regret in itself, I actually prefer fishing to hunting but for some reason I don't go between September and April. It's strange really when I was a kid my Dad would be catching conger, wrasse etc on Scottish holidays and I had no interest, my Uncle even owned a Charter boat out of Hartlepool and went to Whithorn after Tope every year. Hawaii did get me interested in fishing so it served some purpose lol.
  12. Not hunting exactly but I wish I'd started fishing earlier. I've been to Hawaii twice and I caught a shark and a couple of species of wrasse with the crews help but I didn't know how to actually set up rigs etc. I now enjoy catching different and new species of fish using all kinds of tactics and tackle so I have a massive regret that I've twice been to somewhere that I know I could now catch a lot of species, some endemic. I went when you got two Dollars for a Pound and prices over there were much cheaper than they are now. Those two fortnight holidays cost £4000 a time and would cost nearl
  13. That sounds a lot of fun lol. I've still got a lot to learn from a Harris yet but maybe oneday I'll take the plunge.

Went out for a quick session with Fourtrak this afternoon, there wasn't much about but in the last field the old dog found a rabbit and after a few minutes of waiting while he pinpointed it in the cover it was flushed and caught. Once back home I swapped dogs and after a few unsuccessful flights at pheasants the hawk caught a squirrel.
  15. I named my young GWP Reeva because she's a gundog and I knew there would be times in her training when I'd want to shoot her in the head. A bit sick I know.

I don't run into many and mines been kicked off a few times. It doesn't help that my pointer thinks his job is to course hares. It also doesn't help that his catch rate is pretty impressive lol.
  17. Good stuff mate, I'd like a Goshawk oneday

Lol He's a fecking pain in the arse. He can run mind, he could probably be used to produce a good lurcher ha.

    New Season

We travelled upto Fortrak73's permission to be met by fairly strong winds. Hares could be seen moving around in the distance and sure enough one got up. My hawk couldn't keep with it in the wind but my GWP isn't exactly steady to hares and turned full on lurcher. He doesn't give in easily and the less said the better !!!!!! After that we got to see some good dogwork and flights with my hawk taking two rabbits. My mates hawk had tried hard to catch a rabbit but it escaped and she had landed on a dry stone wall. We got closer and I saw her stare down into the cover where my dog was working. She
  20. Looks like your having a good start to the season.

    New Season

It was a hard week with the wind but we managed to catch a couple of rabbits and a moorhen and then both hawks did well on Saturday out with Fourtrak and Eddytom. Yesterday I went to a wooded area and we had three good long hunts on squirrels but they all escaped helped by the ivy and cover. Im not complaining as I really enjoy doing a variety of hunting with the hawk and she managed to catch a rabbit in the end so we didn't blank.
  23. That's interesting, none of the pointer crosses I've seen did that. That's around twenty lurchers.
