Can't go wrong with Warne, Weaver, Leupold or Badger Ordnance. I have used all of those successfully. Burris, ATN and a whole list of others are out there but I have no personal experience of them. The best mounts I ever owned were by Recknagel (Website: http://www.recknagel.de/mountsenglish.htm ) They are from Rheinfeld in Bavaria and really understand quality glass and how to mount it. Good luck!

Fantastic rifles. I've had Brno .22RFs for 25 years or more. CZ iz the Slovakian factory and used to be owned by Brno. Now out on its own, but still making Brno designs. It is rumoured that CZ have now bought Brno, the original Czech Republic factory. In any case, the rifles are of very solid construction and are all-steel. No aluminium actions or plastic parts (other than stocks and magazines). They also shoot well straight out of the box. The wood is usually better than you would expect for the price and my old Brno 581 semi-auto has a great piece of walnut. I have a CZ452 16

At first I thought - what strange and very difficult-to-machine dimensions. But if you metricate them.............. .243 Win. = 10 inch = 254mm 6,5x55 = 8,661 = 220mm 6,5x57 = 7,874 = 200mm 6,5x65 = 7,874 = 200mm 7x64 = 8,661 = 220mm .270 Win. = 10= 254mm .308 Win. = 12,008 = 305mm .30-06 = 10 = 254mm .25-06 = 10= 254mm 8x57 IS = 9,488 = 241mm 8x68S = 11,024 = 280mm 7mm Rem. But how would you find the paper? Unless of course, the RAF are carrying out the bombing, in which case it would be unmarked, in the middle of the target area!

Ok. Love - fifteen. But nul point for artistic impression! Your service!

According to press reports, the Official Receivers are working hard to relate guns to owners so that they do not lose out. The Receivers, Deloitte & Touche - here is a quote from Shooting Times: Deloitte has now set up a dedicated customer hotline. If you have any queries, tel 07876 664035.

I remarked in another thread that my firearms are tools for making holes in paper in the most inefficient way possible. Now, I don't fire many rounds that I have not reloaded, so, taking into account the reloading, buying all the components, reading all the "advice", transporting stuff to the range, walking the 100 yards to the butts and stapling the target, doing the biz, driving home, cleaning the rifle................... Can anybody think of a more inefficient way to put a small hole in a piece of paper?

I had this discussion with my FLO during my last renewal visit. He asked "how many weapons do you have at the moment?" - my answer was, none, only some guns and rifles. I should point out that we have known each other for years and the relationship is one of mutual respect. We went on to discuss the gun/weapon and basically agreed to differ. When I was a soldier, I carried a weapon, with the clear duty and objective of killing the enemy if necessary. My training was second to none and weapon safety was rigorously observed and enforced, Now a civilian, I do not possess a sin

John, I have used one on a friend's BDL. A superb trigger with a huge range of adjsutment. Its a bit of a Swiss watch in terms of complexity but probably not much more so than the Timney. I'm pretty sure it will need a gunsmith's installation skills - I know some action milling and additional stock inletting can be required. That said, it is a VERY nice trigger. Charles

Docter Optik = Carl Zeiss Jena. The Jena range was produced in the former East Germany and was not connected with "Western" Zeiss. The products were adequate but inferior to the mainstream Zeiss brand, probably because of lack of investment and R&D by the socialist republic. Docter Optik took over the operation a few years ago and have transformed the brand. I would say that they are definitely worth considering.

Good article with information on scope alignment here: http://www.gunsandhunting.com/Midway_august.html And the tool itself, available from Midway UK: http://www.midwayuk.com/apps/eproductpage....leItemID=529349 I have no connection with Midway other than as a satisfied customer.

Falling block or similar action rifles

I shoot my 577/450 Martini-Henry (MKIV) occasionally. Great fun and a very strong action and surprisingly rapid loader. I have also fired the Sharps repros which are agricultural by comparison. Previously owned a Ruger No1 in .308 Win and it was a superb shooter off the bench. I was never totally comfortable with it in the field, I think because of its relatively short overall length, (but with a "full length" 26" barrel) I never came to terms with its balance. The Ruger was a joy to reload for and very rewarding in terms of precision. It did however get heavy towards the -
Yes, screwcutting a muzzle is precision work and needs the right machinery and skills. However, once you are set up for the work, it takes no more than an hour, including stripping, setup etc. So anyting over (in the South) 75 squid is questionable. The problem may be that, since the Proof Houses were privatised, they have a profit imperative. Transporting a rifle to & from the proof authority is very expensive, plus of course, the aforementioned profit imperative. I am led to believe that the proof houses have tried (and failed so far) to make us all re-proof our firearms when

Not 100% sure of my ground here, but the centrefire mods advertised may not be reflex types - in other words, they hang off the muzzle and extend the rifle by the full 10" or whatever. If this is true, they are possibly better than reflex in terms of noise reduction however the handling penalty may be unacceptable. They would certainly be cheaper and easier to install than the reflex type as there is no precision rear bushing required. As I say, not 100% sure.
