love hunting foxes, rabbits and doing what ferrets do best!!
  1. I got a new hob about 6 weeks ago to serve my jill, there were signs they were at it because he eat the back of her neck. he's only a year old and i dont see any tell tale signs of her being preg's. would it be to late to introduce another hob to her??
  2. the guy who is lending me the ferrets has over 20 all very tame all worked for a shotgun shoot said see how iget on with them and he will pick a couple out for me couldnt belive it . Thats a good head start for you lad, when they have been handled it makes it a bit easier, i got a big hob recently, over a year old and never handled, he was a bad child at the start, thankfully he has caught on. "Never bite the hand that feeds you" i would handle him every day now when m feeding him, if you do that you cant go far wrong.
  3. saw a few 8ft finders and collars going for around quid on ebay last week, sure you couldn't beat that mate.
  4. Good man tote, fair play to you lad, My two lads are mad for it, their 6 and 2, ive had them out quite a few times, the last question from the oldest lad every night is, "are we going ferreting the mara? My thoughts are ussually I WISH! isnt it terrible that we have to work to live when we could just ferret for fun! Keep the wee man at it! Happy Days.
  5. Very enjoyable bull,, you'll definitely get addicted, i would personally recommend that you keep an eye out for a working jill a couple of years old,you could get lucky, they get to know you right and quick if you handle them every day. getting a new kit now is well and good but it is recommended that you wait until their over a year old before taking them to work. its hard to wait a full year once youve got the bug!
  6. Well done. Very nice dog youve got there. obviously has no problems with your ferret.
  7. Good shooting lad. we cant get a good night's lamping around our area lately, to many lads at it and missing, the minute the lamp hits them their away like a rocket, Now ive discovered that Mr and Mrs foxy are in the process of digging 3 burrows about 100yards from the gun clubs bird pen.
  8. pouring petrol down holes would be effective alright, but it wouldnt be the job if their in and around hay sheds, its good seeing the rats run before you pump a shot into them,
  9. I dont mind taking the risks of ratting and so on, the reason im keen to find out the does and donts of ratting is because in the case of weils disease i believe prevention would be better than cure!
  10. Could someone shed some light on ratting with ferrets. ive only introduced my ferret to ratting and was wondering about the sefety aspect of it, I hate rats and would be very wery of them and possible diseases they could pass on to a ferret or its handler, and how to avoid this. Thanks
