    having my 2 year old whippet/lurcher done this tuesday always given trouble cost €100 for both .bit sick to hear could be 3/4 weeks out of action. jakie

    Varying views on this subject mate, some will say the extra toe helps grip when turning etc, but I look at it like this, when a dog is flying at 20 mph how can something so flimsy grip the ground and assist balance, they are so easily damaged or ripped off. Own bred we have always removed dew claws at 3 days old, I have seen one lurcher working cover geting them constantly ripped and spend some time laid up needlessly. I have a bought in young lurcher and I wish she had been done. My advice is to remove. cheers kid think i might have them removed next time im at the vet

    just been chating to an old friend of the fathers prob forgot more about lurchers than ill ever no he was up for a look at my dog this morning collie/houndxwhipp/hound and seen he has exta toes he wreckons there a nightmare. anyone else dogs got these or any thoughts, cheers

    well lads just wondering in general at what distance would yea normally slip your dog when lamping bunnies my dog is a whippet x hound more whippet than hound i think and the ground has hills nothing to big though

    lads just started hunting with lurchers this year i have two dogs a bitch about 6 year very good (i think! i got her from a mate to help me bring along my young dog) she retrieves to hand returns every time a joy to hunt with.then i have a rip he is about 16 months old very quick but abit green he doesnt seem to be taken rabbits when he gets the chance ands as a result gets frustrated and starts yelping and driving every rabbit in a mile to ground is it normal for a young dog to yelp while chasing game and more importently will he grow out of it when his catch rate improves. cheers

    Hi thats a real problem you have the best thing for you is if at all posible get your larsen trap out (very easy to make and work just as well i made mine so at it would fit into my swb pajero worth think about how you will transport it )and try keep it away from the public walk i had a simular problem in my neck off the woods and i made up a larsen trap i took out over 70 last year . just started trapping two weeks ago as now is the time when they are pairing up and have 12 to date best of luck.

    Nice dogs have a brindle dog myself first lurcher i ever had not having much look so far he has had loads of chances to catch a rabbit turns them knocks them but wont catch one any ideas

    You hit the nail on the head, have the same problem here in Ireland, The usual story a few GOMBEENS ruin it for the rest of us.Dont agree with driving unless absolutly nessacery, if the only reason being alot of land to cover why not call in some help from some local like minded lads who would be only to happy to get a few acres to hunt day or night.
