I've got a young bitch that will return to hand time and time again, in the back garden. Live quarry is a totally different thing to her, at the moment she hasnt made the link. Take it steady and let the dog get a bit older, good luck

thanks spot on! I was only thinking about her not coming to hand when out working but actually she's not comfy with being handled any time.

if you mean when your ferreting and she skulks when she comes out of the holes ,as its nearly the end of the season all i would do is handle her as much as you can during the summer to build her confidence up and put some pipe in her cage to play in and i woulnd"nt use a teaser to get her out as this can work against you just stand back and let her come out on her own and dont rush at her to pick her up, hope this helps Thanks "pigeonphill", yes i did mean that she sulks when she comes out of the holes. I have a jill that for the last 3 or 4 months has not been returning without the use of a teaser. Is it a temporary phase or does anyone know any tricks or am i stuck? Any advice gratefully recieved

Hello wherever you are. Took up ferreting a year ago, mainly because i'd got myself a wherrier pup[this one is a fell terrier x whippet] and felt guilty not having any work for her. Since then i have been amazed at the enthusiasm and interaction from my pack of ferrets, but also how good it is to be back in the countryside with a dog as a workmate. In a previous life i worked as a shepherd and have always missed that "one man and his dog" thing. In a few weeks time i will be purchasing a beardie x greyhound pup so when everybody else is on the sofa watching "strictly come dancing" i,ll be "
