  1. Get yourself a lesson with a GAIA instructor. Worth every penny, in fact, it will save you money in the long run............Good luck!
  2. Go to you local constabulary website mate, they are on there. Failing that, go to the Devon & Cornwall website,....I know they are on that one.
  3. Never truer words spoken. Oh how I wish the doom and gloom merchants would hold their tongue. You are exactly the right sort of chap to have a fac and the police will see this. Despite what some may have you believe, as long as one is not a real scallywag, there is nothing to stop anyone from having a fac providing they can demonstrate good reason. You provide the good reason they give.............end of story. You have made the right decision.............enjoy your rifle and safe shooting. Charlie CharlieT is dead right, just wait for it to thump on the carpet.......Enjoy.
  4. Devon and Cornwall are brilliant. My recent variation took 4 working days! The FAO in my area is such a good, knowledgable and helpfull bloke...A shooting man!....I just cannot fault them during my sons recent application for a co-terminus. The help, advice and promptness was simply first class.......WELL DONE AND THANK YOU DEVON & CORNWALL CONSTABULARY, you are a credit.
  5. Yes mate - They go from 1 April to 31 March each year......Little tip, make sure you are not caught without one. It carries a criminal record.........Think of the SGC/FAC. Believe me, it aint worth being caught without a rod licence!
  6. No mate. You are going to struggle to find a decent stock of the fellas in Devon & Cornwall, the water is too acidic.
  7. Sako 85 in .303....Mmmmmmm nicccce. Let us know what you think, I will probably go down the same line in a couple months. Is it synth/stless.
  8. coming from a shepherd, you should be carefull ,shoot the vixen and dont get the dog the shit will hit the fan ,when he starts killing all his lambs just for the hell off it. Cheers `hairyarsedscotsman` sound advice.
  9. Hey Claude, you must have some mean ass foxes over there in good old Eire.
  10. Dont worry mate, I wish I was your age, you got all those years ahead of you. Enjoy them, the whole shooting/hunting/stalking/beating/dogs/fishing things is the best. You will meet the best people you could ever wish to meet....Good luck!
  11. To add to my last post.....We are crawling with foxes here!
  12. Excellent result mate, and good shooting. But I have a predicament, the farmer whose 385 acres I have the shooting/pest control over with my son and mate, wants us to be around right through lambing, he has 500+ ewes to lamb, and kill as many foxes as we can. So, we have to shoot right through to keep him sweet as it were. What do you think! I dont think we have a choice......
  13. Great post. But most of all, and I hope you dont mind me saying....Your pretty hot! Do ya fancy a nights lamping?....lol
  14. Thanks for your thoughts fellas. I have decided on a Sako 85 in 22.250, bit of a wait, and a few hundred quid more. Hey, it is only money, and think of the pleasure I will get, foxing twice a week.......Plus the rabbiting (.22LR)) and stalking with (Sako .243)....Training the dogs.....Cleaning my rifles.......Rook shooting (12b Beretta SP3)...Skinning/butchering....Reading shooting mags............................................................................ ................................................................................ . .........Soon be fishing season!
  15. Are you crazy? The .17 hmr is not a caliber I have or ever will be interested in. But at 51, I am not to old to learn, and I hope I continue to do so. However "danebrewer10" Crazy I am not, and when you have accounted for as many rabbits, foxes, deer, pheasants, woodcock, snipe etc as I have over the years, then you can start a comment with an insult....But on the other hand, no, you should not start any comment on this superb forum with an insult. Manners my lad. Your comments a very relevant and interesting, but learn not to start with an insult. After all, believe me, you would not
  16. Thanks Woz. I was under the impression that .17hmr rounds were more expensive than that. I supose it is a case of being used to what your used to, I have just used a .22lr for years....And years! And perhaps we have smaller fields here in Devon, which I think we do, but there is just not the need to shoot much further than 75 yards. At a guess, I reckon we have an 85% head/neck kill rate from a vehicle and we do shoot a lot of rabbits. I still dont think I will be changing to a .17hmr, I dont see the need.........But I bet they are good fun! GOOD RABBITING - WHATEVER YOU USE My wife
  17. Cheers guys. My main point is the fact that if you are shooting a lot of rabbits for vermin control, how much would 500 17 HMR rounds cost. I dont know, I have never bought any! I suppose being a Devonian, these things are important. You must remember, a Devonian is like a Scot with the generosity squeezed out of him!
  18. Sorry guys, and this is only my very humble opinion. But I have been shooting rabbits for over 37 years and carry out vermin control and deer management on three farms and one estate, and I still dont think you can beat the .22lr for rabbiting. The video, again, only my very humble opinion was shite. It is easy to touch group a .22lr at 50mts with good ammo, and how can you compare the hitting power between a HV bullet (MV 2550fps) compared to the .22 subs (MV 1000fps) used here. Not to mention the fact, if you fart at a .17 it is of course. The heavier 37 grain bullet stays straighter. T
  19. Has anyone got, used, fired or even just picked up an RWS rifle. It looks nice and feels nice....But then again, so does my missus....But! Thinking of getting one in .223. Anyone know anything about them.
  20. Get yourself the Q&A CD/DVD. It has the complete bank of questions...Hundreds. Do it everynight, twice! I got 100% in my test....SMART ARSE!
  21. I gotta go with John. Two rifles - .22LR for rabbits and a 223 or 222.50 for foxes. I know there is a lot of hype about the .17, but I have been shooting rabbits for around 37 years, and I dont think you can beat the good old .22LR workhorse......Cheap too!
  22. Dont believe him fellas. The fox had three legs, was wearing thick rimmed glasses, a hearing aid and loved bright lights!.....Heheheheheh. How do I know...I was there. Nice shot mate. Well done on your first of many Charlie.......BEST FRIEND!..Only friend!
  23. We got a way of treating c...ts who steal dogs on Dartmoor. They dont do it again if we find them! F......g low life. I will keep an ear out for you mate. Good luck.
  24. Down my way : £1.20 per lb. Roe/Fallow. Skin off. £1.20 per rabbit. HAPPY DAYS! Had a Doe this morning. 24 Rabbits and a fox on tuesday.
