  1. It was an absolute disgrace but that is the downside of being in the EU. (I cannot think of any plus sides). Why can they not come to some agreement like getting a lower price.
  2. You are going to be popular then...... How did you have an accidental discharge? Do you not have a safety on the rifle?
  3. If you dont mind second hand.... Either on here or on Ebay
  4. Some nice pics there Dave...... I had to smile when i saw your son carrying the Hare..... It reminded me of my grandad making me carry them back for him and at that age they feel like a sack of cement.
  5. Most definitely the best corn possible and lots of it. Stay away from additives because although they may draw a few birds in, you will find that if you stop adding it they will disappear and take other birds with it. There could be other factors involved though. Do you keep the vermin down? Are you putting straw rides in when the weather turns rough? These need to be fluffed up regularly and corn spread on the floor. When it gets too dirty you then put new straw down and you keep repeating this all through the season. I was always asked .... would you eat off of a dirty plate? Why should your
  6. Do you see many englishmen?...... I think they are so much prettier than the frenchies.
  7. Park Street Guns in St Albans, Donaldsons In Milton Keynes (although maybe a bit far)..... Both have a very good selection
  8. There is also a bloke shooting at a target with a 222 at 1000yds
  9. I have had one for the best part of 15 years now and dread to think how many rounds i have put through it. I have replaced 2 barrels and sent it away to have the already mentioned trigger replaced and some remedial works done when the bullets would not cycle properly apart from that i have had no problems with it. Yes the occasional round jams but that is quickly sorted. As long as you regularly clean it, the gun will serve you for years. 250 yards are you sure??
  10. My idea is to get her to the vets......
  11. This thread is absolutely hilarious...... The longer it goes on the funnier it gets... The thing is that Olim is winding you up and so many of you are rising to the bait..... Personally i hate cats.
  12. Great going there Steve....... Do you ever clear an area of thorns etc the week prior to going?
  13. Its nice to hear that your pup is coming on well..... how about some pics of him.
  14. Now that the new year is under way I have started a new record and have totalled uo what we shot over the last year. We ended up with 63 foxes, 42 of which were vixens. So basically 2/3rds were vixens. Now put into context, if you average that out that every vixen had 4 cubs then we have got rid of alot of potential killers. I was always told that for every fox shot you save 10 game birds throught the season then that again is alot of birds saved. I was wondering if anyone else keeps a record and what were their ratio. Dog against Vixens
  15. Well my advice then would be too have a natter with your grandad and he'll put you right. I'm sure he wouldn't have handed over the gun if he didnt think that safety would be your first concern. Alot depends on what sort of game/vermin is around you......20 bore will be a 50 yards easy on things like rabbit, pigeon, pheasant, crows.....the list is endless. You'll have to read up or maybe find out on here about diff types of cartridges too. ATB Its only a gun at that range if you have the skill to kill consistantly at those ranges though and not just injure...... I would take it to
  16. Thats a good start to your time on this forum Bunny Basher..... Im sure you will have have an interesting time on here with comments like that. The problem is that on this forum we see people posting the same type of post on quite a regular basis and it does really get peoples back up because if the animal had been taken to the vets it may have survived. I was one of the people who said early in the posts that he should have taken the ferret to the vets but I also realised that he was gutted it was ill. So before you start F'ing and blinding and calling people names take a minute to look back
  17. I was thinking the same thing..... Hats off to you Bulldoug
  18. I prefer to get in there an hour or so before they flight in and shoot them when they flying in and have commited to land. I dont find it much fun shooting them at roost unless its with an air rifle. Just remember to cammo up face veil and all.
  19. That seems to be a common fault with that rifle, I had same problem and also got left with live round up spout. It was cheap enough to repair and as a real cure I bought a Weatherby. Thanks alot gents..... I took it to the gunshop today..... I will just have wait and see.
  20. I dont think you would have blown your chance after 1 night in there but they will get educated if you are going in there night after night. The best times for roost shooting i have found are late afternoon/ early evening, with a overcast sky and a good breeze.
  21. Do you know many people who have an SGC? If not you could always use this next year to gain experience at you local gun club. That way you will be in good stead when you apply when you are 18.
  22. After shooting my rifle tonight i went to eject the spent shell and the re-tractor would not remove it from the barrel. Upon getting home i noticed that it was loose and what seems to be like a big cir-clip facing the wrong way up on the bolt. I cannot remove the bolt and nor will the bolt travel forward very easily. Has any any ideas what causes this and is it an easy fix, a gunsmiths job and or a common fault?
  23. Im sorry to hear your ferret is in a bad way but why oh why did you leave it for so long? Why did you not get her to the vet asap. How do you know that what she has isnt contagious and all your other ferrets arent going to go down with it? I know it is easy to be wise after the event but it happens so many times on here, where people wait until their animal is close to death before they ask for advice. You should have contacted the vets as soon as you realised she was ill. I know i wont make the mistake again that's for sure but at the start i didn't think she was very I'll just having an
