  1. I free feed mine with 30 ferrets its hars to regulate their food but they do have a large area to run about and keep fit. My personal opinion is that like people you get the greedy ones and the ones which think ive had my fill i dont want any more
  2. Ferrets love companionship mate so i would say minimum of 2. ferrets smell its just the way they are but with regular cleaning (ie every day) their hutches will not stink but if you neglect the cleaning they can start smelling stronger. I take it you are thinking of getting ferrets?
  3. Cheers for that mate the flip side is that i have a bit of time to myself and ive got a job to go to in january so im not downhearted, just working out whether to go ferreting or pigeon shooting ... Mind you the wife has been writing a list for me
  4. The nets are excellent, I got them off a guy on ebay, they are spun nylon and i paid £18 inc p&p for 10 as for the work I got laid off the week before xmas so ive got to fill my days doing something
  5. I was up bright and early this morning for a quick sorte on a hedgerow. The weather was frosty but the sun was out. It was a classic morning. Ended up with 8. We did 5 small buries but only 3 had anyone home.
  6. When ageing a woodcock is it a case of the wing feathers being in line mean its last years or before and if they are staggered they are this years bird????
  7. I keep my ferretes in a large court, in August this year the wife and I went away for a week. When we left we had 30 happy ferrets which would all come up to you for a stroke. When we came back after a week they had turned aggresive. The reason i believe is that were not haandled at all that week, they were only fed. It took 2 weeks to get them all back to how they were before we went away. Just keep up the handling mate by the sounds of it you are doing a grand job
  8. Around our shoot this year there have been lots of 'cocks about. I managed to bag 2 off one drive (although they were 15mins and 20 shots apart). I was wondering how many woodcock other people are seeing?
  9. Why are you getting rid of her mate?
  10. Ferrets do bulk out a little bit in the winter, but unless she is so obese she cant move i would not worry too much about it.
  11. I had this problem with a shotgun i brought last year, I tried acetone, petrol and meths but all they seemed to do was push the goo around the gun. When i was out shopping with the good lady wife, i spotted some stuff called Sticky stuff remover. Did exactly what it said on the tin.
  12. Are you planning on getting him castrated or vasectomised? Because a castrated hob should have no urge to mate with the jills, but a vasectomised one will.
  13. All my pregnant jills and their kits get kitten milk and they dont suffer at all.
  14. You would be able to get away with half choke on steel but you may damage the barrels on full choke
  15. Ive got some kits but they wont be ready fo about a month and im in bedford
  16. They dont. I think it is because they are still "mothering" them and there are always kits running free. They dont care if they are their kits or not they will still clean and care for them.
  17. I have weaned approximately 40 kits this year and the way its works for me is this.... The jills are removed from the court and placed in cages when they are 28 days gone, once they are in the cages they get a small amount of kitten milk along with rabbit, this continues right up until the kits are 5 or 6 weeks old and depending on their size are released into the court with all the other ferrets where they are fed daily on rabbit with a small amount of kitten milk. They are all healthy and fully independant by 8 weeks which is the minimum i let them go. I have found that this diet gives them
  18. I know that the dry food, meat subject has come up many a time on here but i would like to know peoples views on whether ferrets fed on meat make better workers than those fed on dry food?
  19. Look in this months sporting shooter Litts are doing full kits for £60 + postage. This includes jacket, trousers, gloves and balaclava.
  20. originally from sussex but now residing in bedfordshire
  21. Has anyone got any info on these guns? I.E. are they as quiet as they say, accuracy , range etc etc
  22. Last week I was out and couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo....... 56 birds for 180 shots Went out the next day and had 42 birds for 62 shot Went out this morning and had 37 birds for 45 shots Pleased as punch for the 2nd and third trip but my first trip was a disaster.
  23. To be honset mate you would be better putting it on ebay. The mk2 had so many problems with it that deben pulled them after only a few months.
  24. This post and a few other posts on this section just shows how many people do not know what they should and should not be shooting with an air rifle. I know its been said before but it obviously needs to be said again. In these times of political correctness where all fieldsports are being frowned on by certain policy makers we have to show ourselves as whiter than white and posts like these do us no favours. Remember they will always take the bad press and blow it all out of proportion to make it look 10 times worse!!
