Had a quiet day's piking on the river today. I literally caught a pike on the last cast and it was a great scrapper!! I tried many lures today but the one with success was a Shad Rap in bright golden orange. A great lure!
Solid traces are the only way to go with the big stuff . Which abu do you use , Ive had 5501c3 and 6601c4 but prefer shimanos and okumas but ive noticed a lot of people relly rate the new abus with the drop down gears
6501c4 is the big reel, I also have a shimano for lighter work and that can cast a loooong way!
I prefer the shimanos to abus , I had the silver c3 and the blue and gold c4 but they feel a bit agricultural and not the same feel as the 401 corvalus and Cardiffs I've had . If your ever in the market for a new low profile multi have a look at the okuma Helios air , I've been a pro
A nice story Comanche. I too had an exact copy of your River Runt, but mine was in green and I found it in the river, though I can't remember which one. I'm going to dig out a few more old lures....
Does anyone remember these: Masterline Muggers?
I hear that they're actually worth a few quid these days as they're pretty rare. This is the original set of three I got about 25 years ago and It's a bit of a miracle that they're in such good nick and haven't been lost in a snag. They were a cracking plug and would rise to the top when the retrieve was paused. As you can see, they're plenty scarred up by pike teeth!

I'm sure we've all got the odd lure that we keep for sentimental reasons. This lure in the photo is over 25 years old and it's given me some great memories, though I wouldn't use it today in case I lost it. I remember I only had 50 pence left in my pocket and I asked the tackle shop owner what he'd give me for 50P and this was the lure. made of wood and buoyant it is just a surface lure really, but when I fitted the rear treble the extra weight made the lure sink slowly and i could fish it a little deeper. Originally both front and rear hooks were doubles, which is a bit strange. As you can se
I have used the solid traces for a few years now and they're good. I still have the original ones I bought. They are miles better than wire IMO. Obviously, I use them on my heavy rod, with 80lb braid and ABU multiplier...
All spring traps have to be defined on the STAO, (or clones), if they are to be used on listed species , except mice, rats and moles.
The 'break back' rat trap types are illegal to be used for anything other than rats, mice and moles.
Had a couple on soft plastics today. Nothing big though, but great fun. All were released alive and I didn't lose a single lure!
Piccy a bit blurred, soz.
It is also in Janners favour that he is the same religion as the people who really run the UK.....he had plenty to say about the Nazi's, but when it comes to allegedly bumming little boys he is suddenly overcome with dementia, despite voting hundreds of times in the House. It's pathetic, and a real shame to the victims that were brave enough to come forward.
I bet he's got plenty of dirt on others that are making decisions.....
Let's hope Scotland do the right thing, something that our pathetic country couldn't do.
I have transplanted many tree's of various species and I have always followed the advice of doing this in January to the end of March....and I can't ever recall loosing one....
