  1. There's Bream most of the way down and has been for at least twenty years that I know of. However, they must be few in number as they are hard to track down. The last one I heard of was just above the forge, the old weir above there has now been ripped out too.
  2. Good link about the eels, you learn something new every day! There's also a number of grayling in the Aire in that area.
  3. You are quite correct about the 'holt', but it is the worst example of a 'holt' you'll ever encounter, basically a plastic box with 4 foot of plastic pipe leading into it and I would say that it's never had an otter in it! Lots of trout and chub on the river there but there's also billions of minnows. And there's always a hell of a lot of otter trade, should someone know what signs to look for. I actually have photos of the fish passes being made, as well as other areas on the Aire.... They were made late last spring/early summer.
  4. I have caught fish at all those locations.....The barbel were stocked upstream, but i don't think they have stocked eels.
  5. Some opened and some totally unopened. There's 19 packs of them, with many thousands of seeds amongst them. It's a shame to waste them so i only want a fiver for the lot of them, plus a couple of quid postage, if anyones interested in having these for a wild flower patch drop me a pm...cheers
  6. You could be doing your pups alot more harm than good. Six weeks is too young, they have their mothers antibodies and they will be trying to fight the vaccination. It is completely pointless to jab so young, you'd be best waiting til they're 10 weeks old IMO.
  7. First of all, it takes up to two weeks to eradicate the mange mite, then maybe another fortnight for the hair to start growing back properly. Ivermec is not licensed for use on dogs in this country. However, 1ml is alot, in fact for a dog that size I would be thinking .5 ml, per dog, NOT per 10kg. However, why not use Advocate from the vets?
  8. On a similar vein, I hate seeing pubs called The Roebuck or The White Hart with a sign outside with a bloody Whitetail Deer on!
  9. Silence of the Lambs. The pupa they pull from a corpse's mouth isn't a Death's Head Hawk Moth as claimed....
  10. If I had to guess I'd say curlew. It's not easy from a piccy. Thought Tawney at first but it looks a bit big..
  11. Great experience.....I've bred a few stag beetles in my time...
  12. Glad it turned out ok matey. The emergence is down to temperature.....
  13. It won't be a nest this late I wouldn't imagine as the adults are only a couple of weeks away from eclipse....

Look. They're rudd, Alright? I know what an orfe looks like. These are orange (like goldfish) as opposed to golden (like rudd) which is what put me off in the first place. Now Darcy has clarified that young rudd are orange, we're good. I never said they were orange, just that they look orange in the water....
  15. Well, two summers ago and I was going to catch my first mullet. Over on the east coast there's a great spot my mate had found and after a bit of a trudge across mud and shingle bars we finally arrived. Mullet shoals were everywhere. They were feeding like a shoal of pirhannas, loads of oily swirls and slashes i the water, right in the edge. Right, i thought, I'm going to hammer these. I has the fly rod with a small 12 shrimp on and i spent about three hours thrashing the sea to pieces and didn't get so much as one take. I was putting the fly in front of the shoal, dropping it right in the mid

Trust me...they're rudd. Please tell me the parents have to be at least 4lbs to reproduce. It's a common mistake when people see Rudd for the first time, especially in sunshine. They literally glow in the sunny top layers of water. When true goldfish breed in the 'wild' they revert back to their natural olive/brown 'natural'carp colour in most of the cases after the first generation. Get some floating casters sprayed out one evening and see if any big rudd come up for them...

They will be rudd mate. Not goldfish.
  19. The ferrets future must be linked to rabbit numbers surely. It's all supply and demand and if there ain't any bunnys then there'll be alot less ferrets. When i was young there was half a dozen or more lads with ferrets on the estate. You know how many there are now? None! I don't even have them as there's not enough rabbits here any more. With rabbit numbers contracting more and more each year I honestly think that within a decade or two there wont be too many true working ferrets about, simply due to the fact that there isn't enough rabbits. It's a shame as I do love ferreting and i remember
  20. To be fair you can't really tell from that piccy, and with the 'black and white' male being on the water nearby gives the game away . The only other duck that it could be is a Scoter, and it's not one of those IMO.
  21. Yes, it's the female. A little late to be nesting I would have thought.....it would be very unusual to get that close to a wild duck. Is she ok or was there something wrong with her?
  22. These are all about a quarter of a century old or more.....
  23. Here's another two that are old. The ABU was the first soft-tailed lure I'd ever seen and I actually caught a good few perch as well as jacks on it. The spoon about is a cheap 'Toby' copy, that runs higher in the water than a true toby due to it being a slightly thinner., cheaper model. However, this was my number one pike lure for a long while. I did some serious wading in to rescue it on many an occasion. Being you and mega keen i used to get the brasso out and polish this lure every time i was going fishing, it really did sparkle and I caught plenty on it, though nothing huge. I wouldn't u
  24. This is another old favourite, had loads of pike on it as you can tell by the state of its paint job!....Another 99 p special I think...
