  1. When I had my 10/22 i ended up using remmington subs hollow point. I remember having just 1 jam in 500 shells, they were without doubt the best for MY 10/22. Good luck John
  2. Cool ....Just be yourself,, he may wel ask to check security of doors and windows,,(mine did),, I also print off my permissions with google earth, with all boundries marked off and pubic footpaths also marked, this he LOVED and he expressed that "he wishes everyone would do the same".. The Google Earth pics are very handy, you can put loads of info on them, such as wind directions hot spots in different weather conditions, flight paths etc, etc. I`m hoping that this will be of benifit when I decide to apply for an "Open Ticket" you never know...
  3. Ye nice work mate ai great when it all comes together.. John
  4. Hi cyclonebri1 When I had my 10/22 I frequently striped the gun down mainly to stop the usual problems, and from time to time I used to remove the barrel. I have a copy of "The Ultimate Ruger 10/22" Manual and user guide. By Mark White, It does suggest you don’t remove the barrel but I have and had no trouble replacing it time after time. It is a book all 10/22 owners should have. Detailed strip down and re build instructions especially for MUPPETS LIKE ME. . But if you are on the cautious side then I would suggest you take it to your local gunsmith John..
  5. Yes I would agree with the above, BUT I always check zero eveery outing just in case. I also check the batch number on the box, and every batch that is differant gets a zero check. John
  6. When I spent my hard erned I ran my barrel in, by way of cleaning it every other shot with the rod, whilst i was setting zero. many would say there is no need, my point is "Why not", doesnt take any time at all and it will not do any harm after all its my NEW PRIDE AND TOY"!! Look after your tools and they will look after you John
  7. Hi I have found that the best method must be the "rod" the bronze brush cleans all lead and copper from the barrel, the nylon will clean the remaining dust, the mop will deposit a nice fine film of oil down the barrol. I clean my .22 lr`s after each session, this will ensure all moisture is removed and prolong the rifle barrel. most people will say otherwise, but I say why not, do you not clean your boots each time you get them dirty then why not your guns.. Happy Hunting John
  8. I am now looking into getting a "Beretta 687 Silver Pigieon V" Gonna have to talk the misses around to my way of thinking, John
  9. I opted for the Varmint, Brilliant.. Put a Harris Pop on it and found it no trouble at all to carry around, mind you I am custom to carrying around a HW97K air rifle and they arnt light, actually there is nothing in it to compare weights.. The hevier barrel does give more stability not to mention its got more class..(me thinks anyway). either way the CZ452 is excellent choice no matter how you look at it.. John
  10. Yep it is quiet, but as noted, bolt action is quieter than semi, any time. also , the scene is outside with timber buffering the sound forward, bet a SAK is just as good, it works for me on my CZ Virmint .22lr., John
  11. Got to say it AINT MY 1st Choice.. ok if your into that sort of shooting. Have a go at prone 50m single shot presision shooting at its best, NOW YOUR TALKIN John
  12. What more can you say....Well done lads good shootin John
  13. well thank you all for your comments... I know now that the gun is NOT proofed for steel as it is, it is a 2 3/4 but I asked my local gun shop the same question, his reply was you could use it with teel but only with a plastic wad... but even them i would dither on the caution.. enough said I think...any excuse for me to but a new gun However this old gun of mine shall always remain in my hands it`s such a nice pleasure to use...not to mention a laugh when people try to use a double trigger for the first time.. NOWTHEN what would you go and buy.....I wonder... Thanks lads Joh
  14. Hi All I have a Baikal 12g o/u d/t. I would like to use it for Duck, but I am unsure if the gun is Proofed for Steel Shot. It has the marking 74Mpa. I am lead to belive that this is rated to 740 bar. I am unable to recognise any other stamps, (not with my eyes) Does anyone know what the stamp is for the steel rated shotguns. I was also told that if I was to use Steel Shot with a plastic wad, it wouldnt mattter as the shot does not come into contact with the barrel, as it does with afibre wad, Is this correct. I would like to get to the bottom of this.. John
  15. Hi All Just got back from a spot of clay shooting. We set up a few traps in a field out in the sticks, nothing special...BUT Had a great time of it Springing Teal, Rabbits, Down The line.. they were coming from everywere. At one point we had three traps on our peg, the lads on the traps muttering to each other about what they would send next, I just shouted "PULL" you didnt know where to look. It was just a great morning with the lads keeping your in, and having ONE HELL OF A LAUGH DOING IT.. Its just greet fun to get away from the serious side of shooting for a change..
  16. Well I for 1 think they are doing a grand job of it.. Lucky sods I would be lucky to see a fox on any of my shoots,, not saying they arnt there,,, and the farmers havnt a problem with them. Its just that I dont get chance of any lamping, not enough time with that four letter word...WORK.... Oh and then its this Misses "your not going shooting afgain are you" John
  17. Get yourself down to "Decathlon" I got a pair of Fell Boots 100% waterproof very light and had change out of £50. John
  18. Couldnt agree more I got myself fitted out with Brattonsound. excelent quolity I got the RD7+ and the PD7 ...BUT the PD7 is a little small now Im into shotgun teritory, its OK for cnt fire and rimmy rounds but those cartridges take up a hell of a lot of room.. SHOULD HAVE GOT THE ..SC2S LOADS OF ROOM .. John
  19. To much solvent down the barrel could ruin it, or it could be the possability of a round stuck in the barrel not noticed and cleard with another round, this will in fact damage the barrel and give you the problem you are now facing. when cleaning the barrel did you notice that the pressure aplied was eaven as you pushed the cleaning rod through? a bore snake will not give you any tell tail signs of ware, if you felt that it was a jerky movement as you pushed the rod through I would say that the barrel is damaged. maybe a new barrel. Given the cost, I would sugest a new rifle, but tke it
  20. Thank you all.. Tis the first lengthy post I have done, It is not all fun and games out in the field, But all the same the peace and quiet is unbeatable..I cant get enough of it, shame the wife doesnt see it that way.. John
  21. Not everything is as perfect as the text books and mags make it. I was working in Prestatyn Friday, so I decided to take my new CZ 452 Varmint SAK mod Hawke 3-12x44 SR6 on a Harris bipod out for some bunny bashing on the way home. The shoot which I have permission on is 180 acres of hills and valleys, classic rough shooting land. In the past this land has been shot over by other people and so the rabbits have become notoriously skittish. So stalking is very hard, not to mention tiring to say the least. The farmer was grazing his sheep and cattle over the best ambush areas. I noticed some Con
