I think dried meat is seriously high in protien but that could just be what ive seen which was for greys. Im sure it was 60% so you would feed a lot less. Why dont you just try it? The trouble with mince is they can and do put any old crap in it and then just add blood for colour. If i could only get mince i would rather have tripe at least you know what it is.

Practical genetics in dog breeding.
threbb replied to labsnlurchers's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I try to read everything about breeding so that was very useful to me but i wonder how many people in working dogs practice inbreeding or line breeding to maintain a good line of dogs.People always knock the show people but how much irresponcible breeding goes on in the working dog world.A lot i think. What thinking and knowledge of the parents is behind a lot of the litters for sale on this site or c/w ? It seems most people think that lurcher breeding is an exercise in fractions but if you are to develope a strain of reliable workers then you will have to inbreed and not just for one or two g -
Practical genetics in dog breeding.
threbb replied to labsnlurchers's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
thanks for putting that up.Its sound advice. -
u got 1 dog that will do that in two days at that age i would expect all my dogs to do that easily at that age....... they should do what they are shown. im glad youve had your sport but 4 foxes is no test for a dog, even a youngish dog. i could do 2/3times that on a good day and i hope the dog wouldnt thnk twice. I bet you need a big hat!

That is complete crap.A dog is property and knowone has the right to shoot them without very good reason and if they are worrying sheep the shooting would have to be whilst the dog was in the act.Straying onto land is not good reason to shoot a dog.Your not a farmer yourself by any chance are you?

Sorry not a "HUNTING GUY" just a bloke(am i the only one left or have they all turned into guys)but i like dogs with massive hearts, good bodies and intelligence. This can only come through genes anything else is achieved through handling.

a pet is for life but a working dog is quite different,i guess im lucky that i have the set to keep seven dogs but the people that can only have one,if a dog gets injured or to old its got to go,i prefer to give mine the bullit (iv only pts ill dogs to date).i wouldnt want my dogs passed from piller to post,i always find it funny that its ok to buy and sell horse's but not dogs?? one of my mates buy's and sells a few dogs, while they are in his charge they are well fed and housed and he wont sell to w*nkers..dogs arnt human they live for today not tommorow or yesterday!! as long as they get loo

the little fecker is on the table again
threbb replied to JPTfellterrier's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
next time you see it on the table take it to the vet and av it put to sleep. It worked for me. -
dead right there.

You took the words out my mouth there.I used to use chainsaw but i stopped cos i think it can damage a dogs nose after a while in the the same way as 20embassy a day will do to a humane. The nose is a very delicate instrument but apart from that its more like proper work when the dog marks and then has to work a bit to get his rat.The only other thing we use to shift them occasionally is a jcb which does smoke a bit i suppose.

Duramitex is a wash for mites on birds,i would dilute it up at least 20mls to 2litres. Wouldnt you be better using frontline, alludex, advantage or stronghold. Is this for mites on your dogs or fleas? Fleas and ticks.Actually its not meant to use on birds but on bird housing but ive been told it is very good on dogs.

threbb replied to bull scooby's topic in 4x4's, Quads & ATV's
looks like youve been caught out lying there mate not that i like to state the obvious but i think you might need more practice if you want to make a career out of fibbing.atb -
youre right there mate.I hope when plummer went the bullshit may have gone with him but it looks like he left a legacy. When i started this thread i wanted to hear from people who have worked and are working Beardie lurchers.I didnt want to hear more about the persons life story and things like "In the spring I shall journey forth to the north bla bla bullshit. Thanks for your info anyway
-
So anyway thanks for the input.Especially the childish bickering.its been really informative listening but i think i will stick to bull crosses. There seems to be to many silly billys and girls involved in the beardies.thanks all.You can carry with the slanging match now.Its what seems to make you tick because im damn sure its not the dogs that do it for you.
-
Who knows about these lurchers.I have heard lots of good things and a few bad ones about them so i would like to hear from someone who has more than 5minutes experience of them to give me some knowledge about there capabilities and there temprements or anything useful really.Thats all thanks.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case threbb, don't think there's any law that says a greyhound must be muzzled when it's in a public place. About a year ago my friends son [who was 18] was walking 2 unmuzzled greyhounds when a cat walked out from below a hedge right into the dogs.Needless to say the cat was in a bad way and died at the vets. When the owners arrived at my mates door kicking up a stink he apologised and offered to pay the vets bill. They said they didn't know what they were going to do,they mentioned going to the police. My mate then told them he was happy to pay the vets b

Greyhounds should be muzzled in a public place by law. That was the case long before the dangerous dog list.A mate of mine in the 70,s was fined when his greyhound on a lead killed a terrier which went for him despite my pal giving many and urgent warnings to the lady with the terrier to get it back to her.It went to court and he was fined for not having a muzzle on the dog and not for the dog killing the terrier which comes natural to a working or retired greyhound.Which is why you are required to muzzle the dog.The fine then was £5.oo hope this helps.

best thing to do with a broken toe
threbb replied to Fieldsporthunter's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
DONT RUSH TO GET IT TAKEN OFF BECAUSE YOU CANT PUT EM BACK AND DONT BOTHER WITH PINFIRE.ITS OLD WORLD AND IT DONT WORK.GET TO A GREYHOUND VET.BROKEN TOES NEED QUICK TREATMENT BEFORE THEY CALLOUS IN THE WRONG PLACE.THE MODERN TREATMENTS GUIDE THE CALLOUS TO THE RIGHT PLACE.6TO8 WEEKS REST AND LEAD ONLY WILL BE NEEDED TO GET IT RIGHT. -
Dont mess about with it get it to a greyhound vet.The floppy one could be dislocated. If it aint rested for long enough it wont get better. It will probably need 6to8 weeks. You can find a greyhound vet from the nearest dog track.

Still waiting for a useful answer on this.If you dont know anything please dont bother trying to sound clever thanks.

How do you use it and how long does it take to work?
