  1. Cheers guys -- yes, they're pretty big down my way. This one is aware of the danger area and was darting to the grain -- left out for the pheasants to enjoy -- and darting back to an area close to my oil tank. His fourth journey for a top up proved to be his last and he dropped like a stone. Using Daystate Select pellets in .177.
  2. ...another rat and another victim of the HW100K
  3. This time taken with the HW100 ... rat measured 13" nose-to-tail.
  4. HW95K is an excellent rifle. You also have the option to get it "super-tuned" for smoothness and consistency by Steve Pope later down the road. Mine is below: One point worth thinking about: buy one piece scope mounts to ensure extra stability to the dovetail rails.
  5. Over the next week or so I'll do a full review. But briefly: Pros: -- Extraordinary performance over both Gen 1+ dedicated and Gen 1+ NV units (seeing is believing) -- No "fisheye" image ... pencil sharp -- Just 20mW of IR LED illumination needed to view rabbits at 300 yards -- Solid build, fast lens for excellent light gathering -- Instant on / off of tube with varying illuminated reticle -- Brand new tube rated to 4,000 hours of maximum performance use Cons: -- A heavy unit when you compare to a typical day scope, needs getting used to -- Depth of field is small so you need t
  6. got mate who sells envis monoculars that have 72 lp new for £1500 from usa can use on gun or headset but your looks nice If it's USA Gen 3 I wonder what the export regulations say about it ... yes this scope is great and it has a fast F1.5 lens to boost its capabilities. Looking forward to putting it to really good use.
  7. Today I picked up my x6 magnification SM-3S26 HyperGen this morning ... absolutely delighted. After my previous experiences with a Yukon NVRS and Cobra Merlin, boy is this one huge leap forward. I also bought a set of Leupold QR mounts to hot swap from the NV sight to the Bushnell Elite. Suddenly the bunny population in Berkshire is about to be seriously recalibrated. For the geeks: 60lp/mm ... FOM: 1,600

    HW100T

Agree with what others have posted here ... a superb rifle and I like the T stock. Better than my S410 I owned and in comparison to the Rapid ... they're different tools. The HW is easier to use probably, but the Rapid has a magic of its own.
  9. @ theoben Mike: it wouldn't really work on an HW100 because of the power gauge ... but Dr Bob's bottle clamp works superb on my Rapid too. I have a Harris bipod fitted to the HW100 using a standard QD stud and it fits fine with no problems.
  10. Just be aware you'll only get around 25 shots at 30ft/lbs. Better to go for a Theoben Rapid.
  11. AA Field produced plate-sized groupings in my Rapid @ 30ft/lbs. Getting on v well with HW Magnums.
  12. Now there's a responsible shooter I think not enough attention nor care is given to the conditions which allow us to take feathered quarry and they are actually pretty strict, as you'll soon discover when new conditions are published in Scotland in April. Anyone in England should have a careful read of this: http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/conservat...L%20Gen-L05.pdf which sets out the reasons you can take feathered birds. Of course this is not true for rabbits, rats, squirrels, mink...
  13. You have two viable options: 1. Cobra Merlin + Day Scope Adapter + Laser IR Illuminator. You clamp this Gen 1 monocular to the back of your dayscope and it allows you to see clearly out to around 40 yards at least. You can pick this up for £480 from nightvisionsupplies.co.uk and nvscopes.com Good Points: Easy to fit, can use your daytime scope, no rezero-ing required. Pretty good image Not So Good Points: Restricted field of view, Gen 1 is not the very best to be used through a scope. Be careful about using the Laser IR at close ranges because they can burn the NV tube because they
  14. This was the scope on my S410: Falcon Merlin 4-14 x56IR.
  15. Try looking at the Bushnell Legend / Sportsman series of scopes, also the excellent MTC Viper / Mamba range for their stunning optics and reticle. If you can afford £200 on a scope, you will get an excellent one. I started off with a Hawke SR6 3-12 x 44 scope for about £150 and it was very good for me.
  16. Depends what "been played around with" has entailed exactly. DIY jobs on Rapids commonly lead to botched rifles -- particularly if the action has been messed around with.
  17. As someone who's used both extensively, the HW100 wins on every count (my opinion of course!).
  18. Thanks again ... incidentally I mentioned that some of the rabbits were fed to a buzzard which visits my garden: here's the buzzard enjoying the proceeds of one of the days (don't worry, not gory). In management speak this would be called a "360 degree sesssion" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qqHX-c2jxQ I incorrectly originally called it a hawk in the video page, whoops! BTW, I loved the S410 -- super rifle. Only sold it becauseI fancied a change.
  19. And one from early May 2007: I went back to the farm today for some shooting to break up a 6-day week at work. After several long days in the metropolis, and several more ahead, there's nothing better than the British countryside to help me unwind, at least temporarily. This morning was spent at home doing a few chores so it wasn't until about 3pm that I trundled down the familiar quiet lane leading to my shooting area. You may recall that during my last visit the final 300 yards along the road gives a good indication of the number of rabbits around. Last time there weren't any. This t
  20. Here's one I did last May: There’s nothing worse when looking forward to an afternoon of shooting than finding out you cannot find something. Today was going swimmingly after charging the S410 to 170 bar, grabbing the tub of penetrators, getting all the gear together and picking up my newly acquired pellet pouch. But where the hell was the Logan beanbag seat? There's no way I'm sitting anywhere for any length of time without that under me. Time was marching on so I left the house without it -- what a nuisance. Today was going to be interesting because it was the first time out huntin
  21. Cheers Fellas -- I'll post some ones I did last year over here too.
  22. Went out late this afternoon for a trip to my local permission and to see what was about. Encouragingly, there were more rabbits today than I had seen for several months and shows that the rabbits are breeding again and well on my shoot. I took position in my favourite "sniper" area and waited for the rabbits to emerge again -- and when they did it would be the "business end" of this which would greet them: Half an hour passed and I noticed movement in the next field, where I also have permission. A young adult emerged from a burrow on the other side and so I slowly moved the rifle se
  23. Sorry, I meant was your Gen 3 tube graded B, C or D? The B is the highest spec Gen 3 version and the D the lowest spec. Does your Archer have any visible black spots on the image?
