  1. Good to see young willow...If she is anything like Roxy, she is a confident little bugger, into everything and keen to get around. I took some pics today so will get something up later. Looking forward to seeing how they shape up and settle into some work come the time.
  2. Put any more sighthound into that 7/8 grey collie lurcher and in my mind...... It stops being a lurcher. Sounds more to me like he hasn't got it clear in his mind what he wants...... Either a rossette chaser or something that will endure a seasons graft. If his 7/8 cross is lacking speed or stamina, then it's not for breeding from. Seen a couple of lurchers with more collie in that 1/8 that were fast enough to stand their ground against your average non Ped and last a good shift in the field. But they obviously came from faster stock than your mates dogs. Some dogs are simply fast
  3. Is it clear of it's jabs at 10 week? Assuming the first is at 8 weeks, it can't be....... Regardless..... I agree with Borderscot. I would re- think your routine.....do some honest research, as I think you may find your off the mark on this. The pup has hopefully got a long life ahead of itself with you, shame to risk any potential through too much too soon, despite the pup being happy at the minute.
  4. I like tennis balls or similar skidded across the deck for letting them get some strike going
  5. Some steady advice so far. Personally, I would forget about strength and conditioning for a year...... Which probably means you can think about ready for sept 2012! Just concentrate on getting plenty of good food in the pup and keeping it stimulated with some gentle exercise, and training..... Which in itself is exercise. I'd also aim to keep a good covering on weight on her until she is a year or has stopped growing. I don't like seeing ribs and pins on pups, it's not needed, especially on collie types that can be heavy anyway. Come the season, ferreting, mouchig and a few runs on
  6. Bloody hell, is it a year mate? Hope all is well with you and yours. Cheers, D. D. Yeah, reckon longer We are good here. I trust things are good your end? I see that yong one of yours is coming on very nice. Timing is good hey for next season.
  7. If you value the dogs, do something now and separate them. I lost two fit and healthy lurcher bitches a year ago because one decided to sort out the pecking order whilst I was driving to work. I thought the same when I saw the initial signs, they will sort it out or I can step if if I don't like what I see....... Well I wasn't there and my missus was powerless to do anything. The stronger, younger bitch virtually killed the other one. I had both PTS, due to the nature of injuries and the fact I lost faith in the other having got home in time so see her crazed behaviour. That
  8. Great out on the moors.....not much to run, but a good work out and great when you do put something up!
  9. He is half border, half bitza lurcher. Runs like a duracel battery (not all his catch)
  10. Hi, Pops was about half cross. Generations of simple collie grey. She passed very suddenly 6 weeks ago mid flight, she would have been two soon - hence the new arrival. cheers.
  11. let the fun begin! older collie dogs.....
  12. The new arrival. Little bag of trouble! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v491/delbertio/iphone/53e59d32.mp4 Roxy
  13. theres a fair bit of beardie in this fella.....and his been doing ok for me........after seeing other other beardie based lurchers working, Im coming round to like their way of doing things.....although they do like their own way a bit ...and best to let them have it ..for example - he likes to sleep in the van........so let him do it type of thing....lol
  14. generation bred collie grey put back to a greyhound to freshen the breeding up....about 1/5 collie all in all.
  15. Headed over to Cornwall after the missus got in from work on Monday to get some lamping in before the moon becomes a real pain in the arse. I took all the dogs as i was planning to stay out the remainder of the night and go straight into ferreting tuesday day. Got back just before sunrise, took some breakfast and refreshment on board and gave the dogs some food / rest, then headed out with the ferrets and dgos for a days ferreting, which was the main item on the agend and purpose for being there. Like the lamping, the ferreting was really slow going. Al the usual good spots, were prod
  16. Reload, the white dog is not what i would expect from such a mating, but definatley a lurcher and runs well for it. Got a cracking head on him too...and no fear of cover. RE lamping, my two oence is as follows: Like your self i am a traditional man, walk the field, on my own, nice and quite, minimal noise, minimal light form my lamp. To be honest we done more of that that night than drive. But the land quantity of land and the fact the numbers have to be controlled means you can use the landyrover to good effect in keeping farmers happy...and still have your choice of land to wal
  17. alright scott......i can guess exacly where he has gone and what what his looking for.....its not often you see mark lost for words and crapping himself with excitement!
  18. Cheers Dave and Mark for good company on a nights lamping. weather conditions and ground were nigh on perfect and i think the bag reflects this too. My Flyn and D's Celp done the bulk of the runing slip for slip from foot.....however - as ever to cover the ground and keep some all the farmers happy, we drove some fields to "show face" and take some extra bunnies....maybe half a dozen were taken this way? Regardless a kill is a kill when rabbits are a problem. Also had the pleasure of seeing the young Wheaton cross get a few runs. VERY steady dog considering its age....if all goes to
  19. i need to get some better pics of the ole brindle thing of yours fella
  20. Markbrick: I spoke to him earlier about a hunting matter, and he couldn’t resist in letting me know how it had all kicked off today, so I have just spent time reading a few dozen pages of grown up dribble,......well what ever flicks your switches He did however ask me to post on here what I thought of him, and why not....I know the guy well enough unlike most on the internet Mark - the once northern now converted southerner is a loud spoken say it as it is type. He has done well for himself in life and is now very fortunate to be able to live the life that some on here only dream of
  21. private joke. ......dont worry, lady and cat were sound considered the toll on them over the week just gone
  22. Headed over to Cornwall after convincing MARKBRICK he should take me lamping to get my dog some runs and see if the other night was an off night or not. I dont work this bitch much but she had a good night. Mark was a good host as ever, feck knows what drugs his on to keep him awake....or his dogs running but my blue and his two managed a few rabbits. Not the best of night conditions wise, but still afew rabbits for my ferrets. Anyway, cheers mark for the runs, .......and i'll keep quite about the jacking....lol 8-)
  23. pleased for you mate, chat later
  24. Ive seen the little bitch of marks run plenty this and last season, and she has come on a treat. Granted its only lamping, ......but i get a feeling that 50 yard slips will be to her favour, she also has a habbit of sticking like glue before striking hard and fast......If the course runs on in duration, well that will no doubt see things change, not saying she will fade fast, but it will no doubt get interesting! Good luck to both.
