    Hey up, training is ok. She seems to pick things up quick enough when she wants to, treats work well with her. However she is very easily distracted, especially by the other dog.......although I think she is in her cranky months at the mo. Hope Willow is coming on ok. They seem to be a nice smaller size. I thought they might have been an inch taller maybe, but am not complaining at the size she has made given she will be mainly on the rabbit.

    Not stuck much up recently so took the camera out on a mouch over the moors. we have been having a lot of fun catching tree rats of late, Flyn has picked up quite afancy for them and roxy is starting to scent the little fur balls, and gets quite excited when she stumbles across a scent. Also been encouraging her to try and flush pheasants that have made their way onto the moors off the local shoots. She hasnt got fully onto the idea, but its early days...     Cheers for the comments. I like her, and don't think she is gonna be too big either, just tough Merle is Merle........ I dont go choosing them, just seems common in the current collies X. Really limits your breeding options if I am honest!

    Ah..... I love getting the northern folk to bite on rabbits I took Rew out and all he was doing first off was fending off calls from girls...... What it is to be young.....and not married! I haven't forgotten about the phone call.....it will happen, just been away a lot.... You know what us Matelots are like.

    Been away from home for a bit so not been on much, thought an update on Roxy would be good. As posted about previously, she is coming on nice, growing well, shaping up good, nice at home..... ....a little cranky in the field around Flyn, and not overlly confident over everything in life, which is not a bad thing as she tends to seek that bit of re-assurance from me rather than just fooking off, or sticking her nose in She weights 18Kg, and is just shy of 22 inches.     Rew off here has seen the light and decided to become a southerner..... so I took him for a local spin. Not the best of nights as both the farms had just been rolled and drilled, but the first farm, small as it was gave the dogs some quick runs and in no time at all we had notched up 5 rabbits with the dogs taking it in turns and not missing much that was up for the taking. Next farm was dissapointing and a lesson for me to learn off. The farmer had finished drilling that day, and the fields were empty, except for the few grass fields he keeps, we picked up another bunny, then headed home

    Seen some that take, and some that flat wont. Just he same as any Lurcher type. What is evident from the regular takers is that they look for a decent hold before ploughing in....... limits all that smashed up business. I cant see the point in a collie cross that is smashed up and needs resting, it should be out there putting food in the freezer. I dont see them as fox dogs, just dogs that can turn their hand to a few tasks......like many lurcher types

    Andy, she died in March at about 18 months age. Real shame as she had already shown me she had plenty to offer regarding taking bunnies in all forms and was keen on the wooden tops too. We were out across the moors as we always were, she put up a bunny from cover, coursed it and whilst doing so either hit a post or got mixed up with some sheep netting. Either way, she was the wrong side of a sheep fence when i got to her, having gone under it some how and was clearly in her last moments. Nothing registered from her and she was gone before i had a chance to do much at all. Exact c

    Good to see Don a few years on. He really does look the part of a tough ugly collie type, but like you said, he fills the bags and thats what counts Did you keep in touch with any of the litter mates? Its tricky business taking a keen dog out. I used to try and take the edge off my Poppy. But you cant/shouldnt have to do it every time.they have to matrue at some point.....and it aint good being a shield bearer. Hope he keeps running long and well for you

    Gafer, if your sticking with th dog, and it sounds like you are .... Then you can afford to try a few things: Look at the ground you run on, heard pleny of dogs yap on ththeism when the ground is to hard..... It's hard round here at the mo. Take the edge of him before lamping by giving him a decent energy sapping run before lamping. I used to do this with a young bitch I had who used to run like a head strong demon missing too many on the way. First night I tried this, her catch rate doubled and she was sensible all night. Try running him doubled up. It's not for everyone, and it

    Over the years that I have followed the Internet hunting sites, I've read a great deal about folk getting rid of dogs, where as you would like to read about folk who are proud of their canine partners. Says a lot about the modern lurcherman IMO. Jackers.......... It should have a wider meaning!

    How different is it really up north. I've lamp as far north as derby and Macclesfield and didn't find the rabbits much easier ....... These were mainly cattle farms. I have seen videos of dogs on up north land picking rabbit after rabbit from long clumpy grass, most hardly ran. Cornish rabbits run fast, but are real slow going to ground and seem to get real lost when other rabbits would just go to ground.

    Great read this one My dad says early September hares on the lamp are a good confidence booster for pups. The bright lights really throw the youngsters........ The old debate about running any quary daytime V night time..........all the big bags are night time. What does that say????? ......let's see what Dad says...... Classic
