  1. hello all. could you help please, totally confused about CZ rifles and BRNO rifles are these the same make/company. going to be looking for a new gun, been advised to get a brno but all i see are cz, some folk say these are the same?? thanks tonetone
  2. this is quite an annoying thing that a hob of mine would do, but not all the time, only when he was hyped up. try running your hand, palm up, along the ground just before you pick the ferret up. as others have mentioned slow and steady is the name of the game. if you continue to get nipped then gently force the part of your hand/finger that the wee bandit has bitten, into its mouth. it wont like it and soon enough it will probably stop this habbit. good luck
  3. place her back in the hutch and slightly release your hold so she has to wriggle out from your hand. try keeping your hand still while doing this. she might be reacting to your hands movement. and has just got into the habbit of having a wee nip. if you keep your hand still until she has moved away then it will just be too boring for her to nip.
  4. hi scott, i have just posted off my fac application last week. i have been using my fathers .22lr for rabbits and it is great up to around 80yds. i needed more range though for killing hoodie crows and ravens(under licence) So i asked a few questions on this forum and a lot of the experienced guys said that 222 or 223 or a 22-250 would do the job. i went for the 223 because the ammo is a bit cheaper and the choice of rifle is greater. probably good for foxes too. i dont know about the deer mate. good luck. tonetone
  5. hello just wondering if anyone can help please. What are those 'Bushnell' scopes like? applied for a .223 on my fac so need to get a rifle and scope. gonna be shooting corvids 200-300yds. thanks tonetone
  6. hi Herne. i also have used www.gunspares.co.uk (T W Chambers) good easy to use web site. i replaced the spring, piston and O ring, buffer washer and piston gudgeon pin. on my BSA airsporter mk6. the whole lot cost about £32 inc postage. came in three days- great! gun sounds nice and smooth again. i went for an OX spring. quite tricky threading the cylinder back onto the trigger assembly, the new spring was tough to compress. bench vice to hold the barrel, one man pushing the trigger ass. with thick towel for hand protection and another man turning the assembly to catch the thread. give me
  7. couldnt agree with you more. you see ten times more when you walk the land. couple of local muppets here who think that if there is a gate then its their right to drive through it with their jeeps; spoil it for everyone.
  8. thanks for your help mate that clears it up. good excuse for a jolly i suppose
  9. Just wondering where's "over here" ? on the west coast of scotland, the island of islay. lots of bunnies but no foxes.
  10. hello all. what are the rules on posting ammo?. if i was to try and buy .223 ammo over the phone from a gun shop would they be able to post it to me? do i send them my fac? i live on a scottish island, miles away from all the towns and cities. thanks if anyone can help. tonetone
  11. got loads of rabbits over here, i use my .22 lr BRNO with a parker hale moderator sub-sonic ammo and a 3-9 x 40 scope. Zero'd to 75 yds. i go for a rib cage shot so as im a bit more sure of a hit. The only noise that seems to scare their friends off is the sound of the bullet impact. dont know if a different type of bullet would help. tonyetone
  12. they dont seem to mind lights. but i suppose one not too bright would be best. their eye sight is poor but the ears and nose are top notch. tonetone
  13. i shoot rats on my farm from a parked tractor. just at last light. so i dont use any lamp. it seems that is when they start venturing out. only prob is that you only get about 20 mins shooting, then its too dark. however, if you can be botherd going out with a lamp i would say any time, i see them late when checking cows but they tend to scarper, any noise and they are off. make sure your main aim of sight is along a wall, they always keep close to a wall. good luck tonetone
  14. hi ss06 thanks for your reply. believe it or not, but i have 9 ravens on my farm i see them every day. we recently were blitzd by mixy and the ravens had a field day on all the dead rabbits lying around. im up in scotland on the island of islay we luckily dont have any foxes but these ravens are driving me crazy. the licence will only allow me to kill 2 or 3 ravens and lasts about 1 month. the .222 ammo sounds expensive. ive heard that .223 is much cheaper so might go that way. thanks tonetone
  15. hello everyone, i need some help please. iam a sheep farmer with a lot of bother from hoodie crows and Ravens. i have a .22lr brno it is great for the rabbits but i cant get close enough to kill the hoodies (i am going to get a licence to shoot ravens from the depatment of agri) The closest i can get to these crows is around 200-300yds.i recon i want either a hornet or a .222 does anyone know what calibre would be best? how much do typical bullets cost for both these calibres? i dont want a big cannon ie 243etc just a decent long range and accurate rifle which is cheapish to shoot. think i mi
  16. bunnykilla i recently got a nikko sterling 3-9x40 complete with mounts. it was used and in good condition. it was so good that i decided to put them on my .22lr rather than my bsa airgun. they are really good nice group with sub sonic at 75yds. The scope cost me £22, the only thing i can advise is chek out the sellars reputation ie. 98% feedback. good luck tonetone
