hi all just build a ladder trap bout 10' by 6' put the high peaks in and a ladder with the 2 long pieces 12" apart and the rungs 5" apart. i have watched jackdaws drop in, eat and then fly upside down onto the rungs and then do a wee pull-up and off they go. what is my design fault? do i need curtains and if so how wide? how far down? (target species jacks, rooks then later i would like to bait it with rabbit for hoodies) any help would be great thanks tone

ecellent news for your lad and well done PE teacher. Just a pity that the Head teacher doesnt understand the difference between responsible shooters/gun owners and illeagle thugs weilding guns in the street. never mind, happy shooting tone

hello all. im in scotland and i needed to get a variation on my fac before my local gun dealer would sell me a moderator(.22LR) i got this done and bought the mod. then i got a variation for a 223 with mod, i got this and everything seemd fine. about 1 month later the police firearms dept in glasgow called me up and asked me if i had bought a mod for my 22. i said yes and they then became very unhappy that i hadint informed them about the purchase(make model date). i wrongly thought that the variation was the end of it. SO basically they treat a moderator like a seperate firearm. my mate got

interesting about reducing the muzzel boom, that would be good. maybe my mates moderator is just a bit cheap and nasty. i suppose if the shooting experience is made sweeter then a good moderator might be worth thinking about. cheers tone

MILITARY LOOKLIKE RIFLES GIVE BAD PRESS????
tonetone replied to JOE BLOCKY's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
i have no problem with the militery lookalike guns, it all comes down to personal taste. i prefer the walnut and a blued barrel while i know guys who would go for the military type. do some of these guns blast of a fast rate of fire? i think it would be a bit expensive chucking loads of shots at a rabbit, if they do and you enjoy doing that, then i think you probably have more enjoyment out of using the weapon , rather than the hunting side of things. fair enough all the best tone -
hi was out with a couple of ma shooting buddies not that long ago firing at a target. 1 has a 223 remington without a silencer and the other has a tikka 223 with a great big moderator on it. when i was standing next to them there was hardly any difference in the noise they were both unbeliveably loud. i was a bit dissapointed because i had just ordered a new cz 223 and got the barrel screw cut, waste of 70 quid i recon. I definately wont be putting a moderator on mine. since then i have got my cz223 and if i am shooting next to a bank of earth or a hedge etc ma ears a ringing. cheers tone

hello all, would some one please explain to me bullet/ammunition weights? ive always used a .22lr and just bought the regular winchester sub/son it says on the box 40gr. Is this the weight of the bullet head/the bit that hits the target OR is this the weight of the powder. I have just got a 223 cz and going to be getting ammo for hoodies at 200yds so what do i look for?. i have been reading so many shooting mags that i have totaly confused myself. cheers tone

what is the best way to trap a rat?
tonetone replied to gunner1966's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
as previously said get a fenn inside a length of pipe. but try sticking it along the top of the garden parallel with the fence, close to the shed. i dont think you should have it along side the shed because ratty has already reached home/safety. get it a bit away and he will like this extra cover on his comuting to and fro. THEY LOVE PIPES . i have two pipes(8inch diam & 10 ft long) near my silage pit, traps set all year, they constantly catch. good luck tone -
hi guys, gonna be buying a CZ .223 i like the walnut/ blued barrel. gonna be going for corvids at 200yds aprox. got myself a S&B 8x56. but i need a bit of advice please..... the varmint 527 has a 650mm barrel and the american 527 has a slightly shorter barrel. what difference would this make? am i just being a bit too fusy? any views appreciated. ta tone P.S are the CZ's factory screw cut?

hi mike, i applied for my fac/ posted it off on the 23rd feb; got the visit from a sergent on the 16th march and the fac arrived in the post on the 28th march(co terminus .22 & .223) Strathclyde police, west coast scotland. my mate who lives down the road got his visit about a month after posting. but then took a further 2 months until the sergent came and hand delivered his fac. he however was poorly advised to put down 5 different calibres .223/.22-250/.243/204ruger etc, but the sergent sorted all this out on his first visit and he went for .223 only. i think it probably depends on how

alimac, read my message again. WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981: LICENCE TO KILL RAVENS. issued in the pursuance of section 16(1)(k). in laymans terms this allows me to shoot or trap 3 adult ravens. im a farmer and applied for this through the department of agriculture. i first of all have to prove that i have a raven problem, then the dept' of ag contact my local SNH office and they decide my bag limit. i just came on here with a request for some help and i know that ravens are protected that is why i mentioned the fact that i have a licence to kill 3. every days a school day! cheers

cheers woz do you think 8x56 is over doing it a bit? maybe a 6x42 will do the job?
-
This isn't a very constructive answer as I've never seen a hooded crow or a raven , but I had no idea that the killed lambs. hi netter. yup they are both killers of lambs. biggest problem is when a ewe has twins or tripplets. when the first lamb is just born and the ewe lies down to push lamb number 2 out then the raven is there ready to get to work on the first lamb peck the eyes, navel, anus and tongue out of the poor wee lamb. horrible death, i have had to destoy a few lambs that have no eyes or no tounge. i hate these birds. i have read that ravens are the most highly evolved and intel

great post today got my FAC with the .223 on it. so thinking of getting a CZ rifle and a schmidit and bender 8x56. going to try and kill corvids at around 200yds. seen in the mags the rifle for about £445 and the scope for £380. hungarian assembled. is this a decent scope?? what do you think of my rifle/scope combination? look out hoodies no more lambs for breakfast!!

hi, bit of advice please. i have a problem with hoodies and ravens killing new born lambs. the ravens are the main offenders! i dont want to waste time making a trap if a raven wont go into one. someone told me that a raven will never go into a trap. is this true? any views or ideas welcome. the good news is that i have just recieved a variation for a .223 so i can always try some long range shots now... my .22 aint got the legs. p.s. just incase your wondering i have a licence from the dept' of agri to shoot or trap 3 ravens. thanks tone
