LOL!!! 50 cal machine gun ought to do the trick. Perfect rabbit elimination tool - dismembers and buries all traces of each rabbit as you go, entire fields removed in 10 minutes flat.

"Rifle Club" If you are talking target, HMR is not an accepted target tool, although FMJ is now available. .223 is much more accepted as a target tool! I suspect you should count your blessings, I wish my man would say F**k off, you can't have a .223, have a .5O, that will do everything a .223 will and more! Mind you..if you shop around you will find .223 ammo cheaper than HMR, actually, the more I think about it your man is pretty useful!! I thought you were economising 50BMG ain't cheap

22-250 is expensive bunny! Anything that is a quid a bang is OTT, or are you reloading?
-
They would of course be wrong Hornet for me, failing that 22 Magnum. Either has a lot more grunt than the HMR. Hornet gives you more range, WMR is cheaper. HMR isn't brilliant at longer ranges and doesn't have that much grunt. Getting 120 yards or less on a rabbit is fairly easy, so you don't really lose out by using WMR, and you do gain the clout.
-
Deker is also right about the uses of HMR - the buildings side is one I hadn't thought of but it's perfect for the Vmax head (although HM2 would probably be better). The FLO isn't completely insane. For long range vermin (key words: long range) 223 will do everything the HMR does and do it better. The ammunition can be the same price, 223 is flatter, less wind affected and hits harder. And rabbits are edible but you gotta hit them in the head. HMR dropping off around the 200 yard mark is a good thing for a safety POV, but is it really a long range tool? I'd have said medium range reall

Don't know these days. I got my first FAC at 15 but I think they changed it. Might well be 14 for shotguns.

Get a Ruger! Perfectly good rifle. you do get jams from time to time, but actually you do with a bolt gun too. To get it shooting well, you will need: Ruger 10/22 Deluxe (no barrel band, good wood, definitely worth the money) New trigger kit (£100 worth I would think) OR Ruger 10/22T, get it screwcut. Decent enough trigger on them because they're the target model. They're not all that heavy and handle well. I am going to get mine cut and put a moderator on it, it will then do bunnies and targets. Regards HMR, there is a place for both. Personally I would get a 22 magnum a

Out shooting tonight with Deker, got this vixen at 50-odd yards, she was peering through a hedge, I just scooted down to a gap and shot her. Credit to Deker for lighting in the above slightly-rubbish photo Bullet went smack bang in the middle of the chest, clearly expanded very well because it didn't come out the other side, she went down like a sack of spuds. And I then ruined the brilliant start (first 15 minutes of shooting for the vixen) by missing a 100-yard easy enough shot later on. one of those shots that felt good, everything said hit, but foxy escaped unscathed.

Joke, surely?

Good Lord! I didn't know that... it's rubbish. I'll probably stay as I am then, just get a like-for-like swap. Thanks folks.

Well done Good day's shooting!

What are the rules on stuff you can bring back then? if I buy the scope as a gift would I need to pay tax? Just seems odd, I would have thought there would be a generous personal allowance before tax?

Being the pal in question (I think ), I recommend the Tracer Max You're right on the build quality, could be better, but seems to do the job so I'm happy.

I currently have an MTC Viper which is very good optically but has dust on the reticle and is being returned. I was about to get another one, but Deker mentioned when out shooting last night the possibility of getting a Nightforce NXS in the states when I'm out there later in the year. We had hoped £500 might be achievable but it's £750. Does anyone have one of these things? Shall I send back my MTC, and then get a Nightforce? Heck of a difference in price, (£260 vs £800) but with a Nightforce I think the scope will last forever, as from what I've heard they don't get any better. B

I would get a 223, since it will drop the intended quarry at sensible ranges, and costs a lot less than 222 to run because it's a military calibre and so lots of surplus (although - why is there surplus now - we're fighting wars...) I have a Hornet and it's a great round, but it ain't 300 yards' worth. Practical limit is 200 yards, much over that and it's dropping like a stone with little energy. tbh, if 300 is common, 22-250 or 17 Remington might be better as they are very flat. Or 243 and 55 grain, but that's messy. In short - 200-250 with occasional 300 yard shot - 223 300

Plenty of people I hear they are good rifles, and every time I look at one I am impressed. I am fairly sure I want a detachable mag, which Remmy don't do But the trigger is good, accuracy is good and they don't cost the earth - definitely worth a look.
-
well, I sent a PM to baz complaining about my posts being deleted, so he has now kicked me off the firearms forum. FFS! What a pr1ck! And on the rifle front, looking like a CZ, out with Deker last night and could have done with a detachable mag so I could see how many were left, and whack a few more in. That makes CZ or Tikka, and I'm avoiding Tikka, so decision made really

Hey Deker well done, but why dont you post on bbs ? bigrifle i guess its because if you post anything to do with hunting & killing on bbs, the cock knockers ban you And they did ban him, too... Bad place to be, wonder why I bothered - this place seems so much more grown up, granted I am still rather new here
-
well, I wondered the same Sparkie, but that's what I've heard... Certainly they can be sent back as failing their guarantee, but it's a real PITA because of firearms laws here - much better to get it right first time.
-
Bugger, I'd pretty much eliminated the CZ Their barrels are usually very good. Are we talking so easy that if I get one you can drop me a PM with either the instructions or a link to them? What is a real shame in this country is that you don't get (or I haven't found) any seriously big shops that have all these guns in stock. I would dearly love to hold each one, try the trigger and narrow them down in a shopping session, but I can't find anywhere like that Of all of them, I don't think I have heard anyone say a bad word on the Savage, so methinks I need to head to Garlands and have

Ok, the issues you describe seem like it might be faulty, that's all. But I bet you like the Schmidt

I'd not heard of the bolt handle issues. I had heard tales of tikka Varmints that were 5" group at 100 yards at best, one guy apparently swapped his Tikka for another, they both did, unsurprisingly he gave up with them and got a Remington... I would suggest now is not the time to get a Tikka, although the Tactical still seems to be OK.

22 Hornet is very tame then... My one and only fox, showing exit wound from c 100 yard 46gr hollow point...
-
Yes, it is a good sized rat :-) Come to this thread late, but that is a heck of a fox, well done!

Since they deleted my thread at AirgunBBS, I could now use the advice of all those on this forum :-) I am in the process of changing my Sako 75 22-250 Varmint for a 223. I had decided that I wanted a 1:9 twist barrel so I could shoot heavier bullets, but having had a look at a Howa with a thumbhole stock at around the price, I am prepared to put up with 1:12, unless I can get the right rifle in 1:9. Thus far my options: 1. Remington 700, either LTR, SPS Varmint or SPS Tactical. SPS Tactical appears to be good, and also cheap, which is a bonus. 2. CZ 527 Laminate Varmint, looks
