I have two with illuminated rets - the MTC and my Meopta. I wouldn't bother again tbh. The MTC comes in handy because the crosshair is so fine, in the gloom of a long shot you need it. The Meopta is an illuminated dot; its optics are so good I've never turned it on under the lamp. Once or twice in the dusk, but I can't see stuff to shoot at when I need the illumination (i.e. I can see through the scope, but I can't acquire targets first as it's too dark) so I just get the lamp out. I could have saved £150 on the meopta for the 7x50 without IR, and it would have been a really good saving.

If we drop foxy out that far on the lamp without first making a note of the drop, we'll need a taxi home because it won't just be the one bottle

guess it must be then...

I have a CZ511. Reliable gun, accurate barrel, all let down by a crap trigger. Certainly worth a look, but I would still get a 10/22, or a Remington 597.

If you want to add a rifle a visit is the norm, I have always had one, the only time they don't is when it's a one-for-one. The argument is that they need to check you have space and that your good reason is properly sound.

Cheers folks Gary I think it will need more than drops, I perhaps should have posted the other side :D

The 40gr VMax should drop foxy easy-peasy, complete with big mess. I am very surprised that it didn't.
-
I didn't know you could get 204 Ruger ammo in anything other than Vmax...

Went out this evening after foxy, was originally going to go out and zero, with the 243 and some deer ammo, but it was late by the time I'd sat through all the traffic on the motorways Mooched about for 2-3 hours and saw bugger all, lots of deer and not a lot else. Just as we were saying we'd had enough, spotted a fox just coming out of a hole in the muck heap. He stayed sat in the straw for a while, we were 280-300 yards when we saw him first off. Went in a bit closer, somewhere between 200 and 250, and had a shot off the bipod. Squeezed that one, and took the back of his head off. W

Something's not right there, that looks absolutely fine to me.

A bit of filing later, magazine now stays in rifle and works acceptably well (i.e. it's not quite right but it works) hoorah

<Yawn> OK then -
Got rid of the HMR for now (it's back on my ticket despite asking for HM2, but hey ho) but when I had it, I used 17gr Vmax to great effect. I tried the 20gr CCI JHP, but they didn't like the rifle as much. Never found the 20gr VMax.

Daft it most certainly was ...but he wasn't the only one, I was out all last night in the wind, rain, snow, sleet and everything else the weather chucked at me, got home about 04.00 this morning, saw 2 fox all night, only got one shot off, but it counted...daft...well yes!! The weather back home has been miserable eh? Well here in Devon, two nights ago yielded a rabbit or two (and a Hornet that wasn't on zero), no sign of Charlie. Last night he showed up when I had the rimfire (typical, and it was loaded with solid, too. I failed to get close enough). Headed back out with the 243 and no s

So...what has the gunsmith suggested who found this disaster? Perhaps a re-bore...Hornet it .22 so try boring the barrel out to .222 or .223, and .223 ammo is cheap as well, ask the gunsmith. Sadly I doubt it's possible, Hornet is .223 or .224 depending on the age of the rifle (newer is .224) just like the other 22's, but it has lighter bullets. (generally) -

What do you want to do with the Hornet? I love the calibre, but there may be a better (easier) choice depending on whether you reload, and what it is you want the rifle to do. -
The T3 price is for the MT variant (short barrel and screw cut). I haven't seen that for less; most will need a cut following purchase so it doesn't look too bad. Tbh, I doubt I will get that anyway, better options for me. NJC - that CZ looks lovely, just can't find anywhere with one. Might have to order but we'll see.

I totally understand where you're coming from! You see guys with air rifles, for hunting, and they have 16x scopes on - it's silly. You could do air rifle shooting with a red dot x 1 site, only 35 yards after all. I think we all push the boundaries of our weapons sometimes. E.g. rabbits with a 22LR at 100 yards are a bit far, with a lot of drop, but with the right optics you can do it. Perhaps we should use another calibre, but if that's what's there, then it's natural to desire that extra bit of precision. My Hornet can do 200 yards, but there is a lot of drop, so I would ideally like mil

It's (I think) smith cut, sent for screwcut by the importers. i'm hoping it's 1/2" UNF (not that I know what that means!!) as I have an ASE moderator with that thread. Because of the cheapness of 223 ammo, it's still cheaper for me to get that for range work (and probably the odd fox), but the figures don't work so well with a moderator as well. I have mounts and a scope so as long as it's a Weaver rail, all I would need is the gun. There is a Tikka T3 Hunter for £620 that has the right thread, but a Howa 1500 with thumbhole laminate for £650/£700 is my preferred choice as it's heav

Quick one... does anyone know what type of thread Howa rifles are cut with? Cheers muchly

Hmmm... An interesting debate. I can see both sides to it. I have a 7x50 Meopta which was on my old Hornet, and is now on a rimfire. At night, 7 power does to about 100 yards on bunnies for me. Thereafter, something with a finer reticle (the Meopta is an illuminated dot) and/or more mag is good. I have a 6-24 MTC on the 243 (used on foxes, at least it will be...) and I stayed on 6 last night. The scope seems to white out quite a lot, but the greater mag would have been very useful for longer 200-yards + shots. Up to that point, the fine reticle would make 6 power OK. For me, a 4-12 is enou

well, zeroed the rifles, 243 at 100 for now and Hornet at 50-odd, since the weather was such a horrid wind today, I played it safe. 243 did group 1.5 inches at 200 yards, so I'm happy with that. Still gotta sort the Hornet's mag, today was single shot use. Woz - I can't get it to click into the mag housing, I've stripped and reassembled the rifle, but the metal protrusions on the mag, stopping it from going in too far, actually stop it going in at all. The file should remove half the front one, and that should do it I think. it's close - the bolt touches the case of the round, but not

Well, now I have the 243, time to give that a try! 58gr Norma stuff was grouping 1.5 inches at 200 yards in today's howling wind (you can tell I had a new rifle that I just had to shoot!!) so should be good for it.

Got my ticket at last So in true style off to the gunshop. Got a 243, a Titan 6 with stainless and wood, and an ASE mod (Deker, just like yours, thankfully though there is a bit more weight in the stock so the balance isn't quite as screwed!). 140 rounds of 58gr plastic tip ammo, and I've put my MTC 6-24 on there for the time being. Jamie G - should you read this - I part exed the Sako I'm afraid as it was a straight swap on the Titan and that was better than my previous best offer by quite a bit. Also got another Hornet, a Brno CZ527, 1990 vintage. All very tidy, except, I found out
